  1. cheers, LM. it sounds like it'd be difficult then for a foreign student to get into the system. are there ever anything like try-outs?
  2. it was in a newspaper here in the usa that freddie adu was starting his tryout w/manu. which got me wondering about the nufc academy...how does it work--is it like a trade school where football is every class, or are there academic subjects and football is your major course of study? regarding exchange students, if there was a diehard toon fan teenager over here who wanted to come learn/play on tyneside, how would that kid go about it? cheers in advance

  5. The Next Zico & Garrincha, tbh. Pele and Maradona surely. shouldn't have sold speed.
  6. You say that, but Souness got absolutely hammered after a game with Fulham when we seriously could have scored 7-8 if it wasn't for Crossley. Works both ways surely. Not really. The reason he got hammered was not because we didn't take our chances, but because he took off nearly all the defenders and fucked any chance we had of winning a game which we were well on course to (despite being 1 down). Also, your logic only works if we're discussing Chris Coleman getting praise for that defensive performance. I'm not really sure what your point is. Keeping Charlton and Sheff Utd under wraps is hardly great shakes and as Sima says, were it not for Given, Arsenal could have had a boatload, and Given's performance is hardly Pearson-inspired. i see your point here, and i agree, still i can't help but feel like pearson has been a stabilising influence to the defense. so, my view at this point is, that nigel deserves a few props for appearing to get some better performances out of the lads, but it's still too soon to be paying "tribute" to the man. fingers crossed that we eventually WILL be hailing the conquering hero though!
  7. ...and why does zoggy get booked for "horse-collaring" (barely) and henry gets nowt for doing the same (worse) to bramble--and THEN goes off at the ref!!! blueupset.gif
  8. very pleased w/ a point, but can't help feeling a tad disappointed that we didn't nick all 3. does anyone know why we didn't have a go at goal with that last freekick? seems to me like poor clock awareness.
  9. i tend to agree with this. what's the difference if we play someone, like shola, who CAN'T play, up front, versus someone, like luque, who WON'T play, at least not very hard, up front? the difference will be finishing--advantage luque.
  10. i agree. do you hear the faint chants of "Marvell Wynne! Marvell Wynne!"? bluebiggrin.gif hell yeah! as a person who watched every game wynne played in this year, i think in a few years he'd be a solid player in england. He could match henry for pace without many problems(did it against eto'o in a friendly) and his technical ability improved a rediculous amount over the course of just one season in MLS. Definetly one for the future, but until he moves abroad, i dont want him moving away from the red bulls. been talking about marvell since his days at ucla. i'd love him at the toon, butjamesd, how is he when the weather gets heavy?
  11. I think Ching would be better suited elsewhere in Europe. Not much aerial ability and hesitant on the ball. i think i'd still have him over twellman though. he's taller for one thing, and hasn't had any serious injuries iirc.
  12. he's got "attitude" as well. :box:
  13. i agree. do you hear the faint chants of "Marvell Wynne! Marvell Wynne!"? bluebiggrin.gif
  14. we should change our names to the Hoovers, we suck so much. infuriating to watch. moore belongs on an american football team with those blocks. shameful! i do have to give some credit to luque, except for that weak-as-water shot that almost caused paddy kenny to die of old age, he seemed to be trying.
  15. freddie should sack roeder then resign. the equivilent of a boardroom murder/suicide! blueyes.gif
  16. hmm... i think we're right where freddie wants us...shearer as the savior mgr now would be swallowed whole by everyone. bluecry.gif
  17. i voted for survival and i'm very confident that we will survive. but, for discussion's sake, if we did get relegated, how long would we STAY down? many key players would jump from the sinking ship... still i think we'd be up again in 1 season.
  18. huzzah! the match is to be televised live in the usa! FSC!!! :nufc:
  19. so, it sounds like nobody knows much about him?
  20. the introduction of defensive technician Nigel Pearson coincided with a clean sheet... (from icnewcastle site) i don't know much about mr. pearson other than that he's a reputation for being a no-nonsense hard man. is he really a "defensive technician"? if so perhaps we can count on a new look to the back four, especially bramble. i think titus needs the sargeant-major type of coach who's always got a toe up your arse but who also has the true coaching ability to teach & explain tactics, strategy and individual responsibilities. souness was the former, but his, "get good players and let them play" comment easily demonstrates he's not the latter. my question is nigel pearson the way forward?
  21. now you're just rubbing it in!!!
