I disagree. The full back must have at least "fair" ball playing ability that will not disrupt the team's offense. Simpson / Debuchy is the best example. Not to suggest Santon is preferred over Haidara but if the priority is "a good defender" over anything else then Simpson would be preferred over Debuchy which is obviously not the case.

We would have won the match if Colo's there. Not Mbiwa's fault but he didnt have the stability that Colo could provide. The defense line looks shaky the whole match (partly due to Elliot) and we are actually lucky to just lose a goal.

I see no point rushing him back for this match

I still don't accept that as an excuse. There are managers in the Championship who can make worse players than ours pass the ball around easy enough. Williamson is even worse than Championship level.

It depends on whether we would forgo the Europa League by just sending reserves out. If we just focus on league like what we did last season we could and should be top4. However if we don't do so then I could see us finishing 6-8. Several positions are still lack of quality cover and say an injury to Cisse would bring us big trouble already. In fact I strongly believe we should give up Europa League next season. We need CL to raise our status and wealth in order to attract more quality players, instead of dragging back by the Europa League.

I do think you have to watch a few Liverpool matches this season when Jose is their left back. He is really having a mare defensively. Whether it is due to regression or lack of Jonas is debatable though. Davide is a very good defender BUT extremely lack of experience. He is very talented. Probably the best under 21 left back in the world.
