I doubt there is an ounce of truth in the 2 million story. But apparently some players have written into their contracts a 'loyalty bonus' if the club decides to sell them. And one would assume, in a fair and just world, it's really only applicable if the player doesn't really want to leave; which also doesn't apply in this case. Best consider it a rubbish story until we know better.
  2. http://www.newcastle-online.com/nufcforum/index.php?topic=20035.0 Errm, just kidding..
  3. Where? Is there a stream? Ban, talking about illegal activities.
  4. Good, never rated him as a defender, LWB maybe but not out and out LB.
  5. Drago, Enrique, Baines ... surely not all three, unless Drago is primarily cover for both CD and LB. Fuck this, I'm not speculating anymore until the transfer window shuts and all I have to do is to speculate who we're playing out of who we've got.
  6. Doesn't Taylor frequently play RB for Under 21's, I don't follow the international scene too much except for the big games. I don't think him playing RB will hurt his progression, he'll learn more playing there alongside Cacapa and Rozenhal than sitting on the bench at least. Could see it happening for the next season. I'd think we'd all choose him there in front of Carr as well if they were the only two choices. (I'm assuming Geremi will NEVER play RB unless there's an injury crisis, he offers so much more in the middle or on the right of middle.)
  7. No, he mentions Cacapa and then 3 more with one of them being Enrique: Your mixing two different sets of comments mate. I was only looking at what Edwards said, not Allardyce. But never mind I surrender as it's completely irrelevant really.
  8. Read the article, he mentions Enrique and say 3 more completely disregarding Cacapa. I'm including Cacapa and saying 2 more.
  9. GERARD HOULLIER has told Sam Allardyce he has made a “great signing” in Brazilian international Cacapa. The 31-year-old defender will sign for Newcastle United today on a free transfer after the player had a successful time under Houllier at Lyon. And Houllier revealed that Big Sam has spoken to him about Cacapa before finally deciding to hand the defender a contract at St James’ Park. In an exclusive interview with the Chronicle, Houllier said today: “Sam has spoken to me about Cacapa and I have told him that providing they can keep him fit, he will turn out to be a great signing for Newcastle United. “Yes, we had a bit of a fall-out at Lyon last season, but this was because he had refused to sign a new contract. “Now that he is joining Newcastle, they will be getting a very experienced defender which, I understand, is just what Sam is looking for.” The Chronicle revealed that United were signing Cacapa yesterday and contacts were quick to phone me waxing lyrical about the defender who now has a French passport, which means there is no problem about him playing in the Premiership. But I have been told that Cacapa is not the sort of player you usually associate coming out of Brazil, with flashy footwork and silky skills, but more of a no-nonsense defender who likes a battle. And quite frankly, after the lack of bottle some United players showed at the end of last season, this is just what is needed at St James’ Park. Meanwhile, United’s new fitness team have been amazed at just how fit Cacapa is, even though he has practically done no pre-season work. But just how early the third player from Brazil to wear the black-and-white shirt tastes some action will depend on the injury situation. My information is that United will try to sign another central defender before the trip to Bolton Wanderers for the Premiership opener a week tomorrow. But Allardyce tells me he will hang fire as far as another Brazilian – Edmilson – is concerned, instead he says he will wait until the Barcelona central defender is fit again. and he is now a potential target in the January transfer window. -- Italic text shows source.
  10. What the squad lacks is either a RB or a top DM.
  11. Luke Edwards maths is flawed. Cacapa would have been one of the four, presumably, then his article mentions Enrique, leaving 2 more. Drago maybe, and mystery man. Who may cost quite a lot, from reading that article.
  12. He's hardly needed anymore. Last season we didn't have much up front, this season is a complete turnaround including an improving Luque that might make the EPL grade with a smidgeon of luck thrown in. If we can afford his wages then we have a luxury in the sidelines waiting to help us out sometimes.
  13. Some London rag put the blame on Ashley, they claim he got upset about something with WHU's method of dealing or just felt the price was too low and put the price up. I doubt that's true however.
  14. Just discovered Vic's gone, never managed to work him out. He clearly wasn't stupid as some of his posts proved, wonder what he's like in person. If he behaves anything like the way he does did on here he must wander round with permanent black-eyes and/or teeth missing. Strange guy.
  15. Sam is probably fucked right off that this story has got out, Villareal have been a tad hasty in reporting this.
  16. On another note that surely puts one of Drago or Baines off the list, ..........assuming the Enrique deal doesn't get hi-jacked.
  17. Just wondering, but is everyone who has been wailing and gnashing teeth about Sam/The Board begining to wish they'd kept quiet?
  18. Exact same thought went through my mind when he specifically mentioned Bolton would be fitter than us when we played them.
  19. Looks as camp as a row of tents in that picture.
  20. Gordon Lee's Black 'n' White Army.
  21. I'm the same age as you NE5, give or take a year or two at a guess. Went to my first match in the old covered Leazes in 1974. The bit in bold is a bit premature to say the least, and I don't agree with your comment that the signings are the same standard as way back either. A lot of the purchases then were no-hope journeymen. As to Allardyce looking unhappy you or I cannot say with certainty that it is down to the board. It could have been getting turned down by players at the last moment. Personally I think it was probably a combination of the board moving too slow through inexperience and a couple of targets he (Sam) thought he had nailed but falling through. He looks a bit perkier now though. At the end of the day, as you say, results count and if they surpass the previous board in the long run it will be happy days; but give them more than a month before you condemn them, please.
  22. You did reply to it plus I read it and yes it disappeared.
