That guy is the undersecretary for sport, a junior minister like 3rd or fourth in line in the department for DCMS. So I'd hardly put his comments down as some kind of definitive government line. Having said that the department for DCMS have been pretty consistent from the start publicly in saying they will not interfere. Mainly in saying they will not support blocking the deal, but obviously not interfering goes both ways. So not sure why people are getting their knickers in a twist over that statement.

So many pages for absolutely no new info. Nothing has changed IMO. The Premier League don't want to reject the takeover, and also know they have no legitimate reason to. But they don't want to offend BEIN, so they're waiting and looking for a way round it. It's quite hard to see a way round it, but it's even harder, pretty much impossible, to see a way they can reject it. 1. Telling a major UK partner they aren't fit to own a club. 2. Losing any chance of stopping piracy. 3 Losing the kind of major investment into their league they crave right at the time it's needed most (even in a pandemic the PL gets major investment because we are the biggest and best is exactly the brand they want). Its hard as a Newcastle fan to expect anything good. But I just can't see it being rejected. If they somehow do, well I'll go back to ignoring everything about the club, at least I've had practice over the last 9 or so months. But like I say for me it just seems unimaginable they will reject this.

Sourness claiming that was a penalty against Ritchie ?

So what are you saying here exactly? You don't believe the takeover decicion is still in the hands of the Premier League? Because otherwise this sponsorship is utterly irrelivent to wether the takeover happens or not.. The club arent making the decicion on the takeover, that part is done. It's the PL alone who are making that decicion. So constantly trying to figure out how that decicion will go based on the actions of the club from day to day is nonsensical. I mean I'm sure if the league rejected the takeover we'd hear about that long before we heard of a club decision based on that rejection. Considering they take forever to do everything.

Of course it won't, it will have to come to a head one way or the other. This is a done deal for both parties not some up in the air negotiation that may or may not be genuine (like past takeovers). There's no grey area with this one, it's either the Premier League approve it or they deny it, either way there will be a very definitive conclusion.

Last ditch efforts wouldn't be much good if it is literally going to be announced the next day Hard to believe its even a genuine effort, I mean they can't be thick enough to believe that letter has any chance of influencing the takeover surely? Seems more like the usual "look we're doing something for our money and we're dead moral" token effort.

It really is pathetic like ?

So who are these MPs? I mean we keep hearing this kind of thing, several times there have been reports of letters from various numbers of MPs. But I haven't seen any specific names mentioned. Anyone know who they are? Edit: Ah so the article actually names them this time.

The deal was done and with the Premier League well before survival was secured, had survival been a issue it wouldn't have. They would have waited to complete the deal. Think that article is just poorly thought out guess work, IMO.

I think it’s a safe bet they didn’t consider regional structure when they included Qatar and Saudi in same rights package to begin with. Why is that safe to say? Because Saudi and Qatar have always been best of friends? If they have built in a get out clause in the event of a scenario like this I’d be very impressed, however my guess is all that mattered was the 500 million. Also the likes of Matt Slater and Jacobs seem to think Saudi negotiating individual rights for remainder of contract are complicated and unlikely. I don't know if they have or not, just wouldn't say its safe to say they didn't possibly foresee a issue between two sworn enemies. Also don't really put much faith in journalists when it comes to anything but reporting something they're told, in this case they're speculating, like everyone else.

If the Premier League agree to take Saudi as its own broadcast region and agree to compensate BEIN for their region being reduced in size it could perhaps be possible to do it now. As BEIN would still keep their MENA TV deal at a reduced rate, just speculating of course. would require BeIN to agree to it and well why the hell would they agree to it? Well money, they're in the shit financially and right now they get absolutely nothing for their license from Saudi. They'd be getting a large discount for losing a broadcast area that's completely worthless to them.

I doubt it would legally be as easy as that though. Maybe not if BEIN refused to accept the situation. But they'd be mad to do so, since right now they get 0 revenue from Saudi. Some compensation from losing a country they make nothing from would be a no brainer. Meanwhile the entire issue of Qatar and Saudi squabbling over TV rights goes away and the PL lose no money. Of course just because it would make sense doesn't mean its happening..

when the entire takeover has centered around piracy and tv rights and by banning bein KSA have just dropped the value of beins rights in the MENA region significantly As has been said, this was a ongoing court case started well before the takeover. So while the outcome might seem relevant, the decision isn't necessarily anything to do with the takeover.
