Local tv news here in the East Midlands direct from King Power Stadium have Islam Slimani heading to a premier league club.No identity of club. I couldn’t find this news anywhere else in the media.....could be total b*******,but East Midlands today doesn’t tend to spout conjecture.

What a great concept. Didn't realise until I started plotting, exactly how many grounds I'd been to that no longer exist. Chapel House always had a good team but you were crap at Cricket. Can you remember Pete Kirby 1974-81 chapel house weren't very good 78 tom 80, chapel park on the other hand were our main competition and they started to really pull away from us in the final year of middle school. well we only had about 35 lads to pick from. When I was there Claremont and Throckley middle schools rivalled us for crap teams whereas the Gosforth schools (was there 3 of them back in 85?) always absolutely trounced us. the gosforths (east,west and central) weren't that good in our time. we won the newburn league and cup first time round, semi of city and county cups. year later we won the newburn cup, chapel park the league, year later chapel park done the double (the league decider at their place, gravel pit of a pitch being a bit of a grudge match after their cheat of a ref started by giving them a pen for a foul on the egde of the "D", they had the entire school lined up on the touchlines and we ended up just braying the ball into them...........remember it as if it were yesterday) there was often trouble at games with throckley for some reason, punches and kicks at school gates and they also had the most mental pitch with about a 10ft slope running from one wing to the other. Can you remember the West Denton Pitch. They had put so much white lines (mixed with lime) that it burned a trench down the 2 touchlines and they developed wingers who kicked the ball down the wing, ran around the outside of the full back and caught up with the ball 20 yards later.........brilliant tactics.

I remember beating them 11-0 at their place, that was at footballscore,not rugby, be about 79-80ish. I was at Claremont 1974-79, was Dave ? (forgot surname) head of PE then. If not, John Angus definately was. Friday night staff football, we had staff from all the middle schools to make up the team.we called ourselves the Newburn Gnomes. Don't suppose you played,did you??? dave raynor you're thinking of. he left for walker central (?) about 78 or 79. John Angus (great teacher and mackem to boot) and Gordon Lowery (another great teacher) were mainly in charge of our football till Tim Seward came along. I saw John the other day, a regular in a local pub and he hasn't changed a jot (don't think he recognised me as he last saw me when I was 13). I remember going to watch some of those staff games as one or two were played on our (simonside) school field and it was a good excuse to have a laugh at our teachers and what possibly turned out to be, well, you I used to share a flat with John Angus! The original Middle School Teachers team mainly consisted of Simonside staff, Dave Rayner, John Angus, Gordon Lowery,Colin Jacques and a splintering of players from Cheviot,Chapel House,Chapel Park, Claremont, Dumpling Hall, West Denton, Throckley and Westerhope. Virtually unbeatable on a good day! It was surprising how many ex professionals we came across from other schools. Players who had retired and gone into teaching. I always thought ex footballers in the 60's and 70's became Pub managers!

I didn't think he played that many, that's a bit of a surprise. No did i, had to look it up, and still struggled to accept that he'd put on the famous shirt 62 times, let alone managing to find the net 18 times. Still if Tony Cunningham can score 4 goals then anyone can !!

You would have to be virtually over 60 to have played with Paul Cannell, never mind over 50. His song says everything that needs to be said about him. He actually played 62 times for Newcastle scoring 18 goals in 6 years. Nearly as prolific as Shola !!

For all you oldies older than 50, used to play in the same school team as Paul Cannell..............He was useless then as well!! Later in life played a staff Football game against (i think) Rutherford school and Dave Hilley was playing for them...........although in his 40's by then, still had all the touches and vision..........i never got near him in 90 minutes. Tony Green, after he retired through injury, became a teacher and brought his Under 13 team to play against my Under 13 from Claremont Middle School.............That was awesome, as he was my hero. When i helped run the Newcastle Boys Team in the late 70's, we had Paul Stephenson and Ian Bogie in the team, although the best player never got picked up by any club............Jimmy Page was his name (A name not to forget).

That's why i stop booking Trains now. I always used to book the cheap trains months in advance but got shafted so many times that i drive up from Nottingham now instead.

I usually drive up from Nottingham for home games, but decided to treat the missus to a night out in Whitley Bay and a stay in a posh Hotel. It won't be the same if there's no match.

Not if you factor transfer fees, signing on fees and wages into the equation. So can some one do the maths ,if we sign 3 players on £6 million each for example and include wages and fees on 5 yr deals what will be left of the £35 million with our wage structure . Let's say we buy 2 players at £5m Cost=£10m 5year deal at £40,000 per week Cost = £10m per player =£20m Therefore if wages and Transfer fee are included ( but excluding signing on fee) Total =£30m 2 players for £30m That won't get us far!!!!!!

Anyone just see Arshavin playing with his John Thomas right in front of the camera in tonight's match. I hope the FA will look into that incident as well then!!!

I feel for you mate. For someone with so much experience supporting the toon, do you think this is significant enough to get worked up over? Or is it just one of those blips along the way of supporting the club? Think I can guess the answer like! I've seen 23 managers (or temporary) in 50 years. I've watched some of the most turgid players ever to wear the B&W's in Billy Whitehurst, Des Hamilton,Tony Cunningham, Joe Cornwell, Viv Busby, Billy Askew just to name a few. I've still managed to say to myself "things will get better" but i've now reached a stage where i no longer feel that will happen. Yes you're probably right, i am getting worked up, but for once i cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel. Ashley, just like Thatcher, when you snuff it eventually, i'll pop along to the pub and have myself a nice southern comfort in celebration!!!! Wasn't saying you shouldn't get worked up, just wanted to get the perspective of someone who had seen a bit more of the history. FWIW I feel the same way, even though I'm spoilt to have only been around since Keegan Mk1. Only been around since Keegan Mk 1!! That's s still 12 managers, Andreas Andersson, Laurent Charvet, Daniel Cordone, Frank Dumas, George Georgiadis, Stephane Guivarch, Marcelino, Niki Papavasiliou just to name a few. I travel up from Nottingham every home game. I've followed the toon since 1960, through all the bad as well as good times. i've never, in all those years ever thought of not watching. But for the first time i so p***ed off that i am not going to renew my season ticket. Totally and utterly fed up with this regime. Unfortunately i cannot see any change, i'm afraid i believe Ashley is here to stay. i believe the guy is getting his own back on the supporters whilst making sure he gets all of his money back!!!!

Sorry I'm typing this on an iPad. I don't often write.......perhaps it'll be a few more years before I'll respond again, when I learn how to format a response.

Just got back......they closed the A1 at lemming bar, so had to go home via Middlesbrough. I thought Blackpool got their tactics absolutely spot on. They knew our main threat was down our left so they banked up defensively on Jose and Jonas. They also knew our weakness was on the right which is where their main threats in the first half came. See how many cross field balls they played towards Perch! They probably also played on the fact that the Toon always disappoint when everyone expects of them, by keeping the ball and creating all the early chances. They managed to keep the crowd quiet and prevented early hysteria. To add to this too many of the team failed to turn up first half, possibly expecting Blackpool to lay down and die. Perch is definitely not good enough. Living in Nottingham, the locals were pleased to see him go as they never thought he was consistent enough to make the championship, let alone the premier. Why don't managers change at half time if it's not working.it took Nolan's intervention before subs appeared (Has Nolan become coach as well as player). Fresh blood, and someone with some passion was needed......bring on Stroller!!! Their keeper didn't have a blinder......see how many of those 14 shots went straight at him. I thought Barton was by far our best player, even though he misplaced many a pass.....at least he showed some passion. On reflection this was possibly the worst game to follow VILLA, as everyone was expecting!!! if we were playing Spurs or Everton, i' m sure we would have been up for it more. Next few weeks will show what Hughton is made of.
