Alan Smith or Barton seems to be the discussion in this thread. For me, as long as a player perform he really should keep his place, we should stop picking players because of their name... thats what got us to the championship in the first place. Atm Smith seems to be performing very well, so why shouldnt he keep on playing? I'm no fan of Smith, but he seems to be less injury prone than Barton, so he should be playing more games= he should start ahead of Barton. Like some say: Never change a winning team.

Just got back from the game, my first visit to St. James'Park. The player that impressed me most was Jose Enrique, he will soon be sold if he keep performing. The only thing is that he needs to learn how to pass while he is running. The game it self wasnt a good game, the ref. stopped the play to often imho. But what are we doing on freekicks on our own half? We put all the team on the left side, leaving he right side open with no players? Is it a tactic we are using? The second half we were like 3 times on the right hand side, just put a man out there... It was a good atmosphere today

Imho this would be a to light weighted central midfield,none of them are physical enough to battle in the championship nor good enough to outplay other teams. - Skjelbred has said that he doesnt like playing in a 4-4-2 formation, he likes to play in one of the sides in 4-3-3. He hasnt been his best this season, and startet the game against holland on the bench, behind the likes of Fredrik Winsnes which is utterly crap. The Norwegian Eliteserie is probably a worse league than the championship, so it would be stupid at the moment to pay around 5M for a player that is strugling in norway, wouldnt it? - Many ppl keep praising Guthrie, for me I cant see why? What is really Guthries best position and what is his strenghts? Imo Guthrie isnt a defensive midfielder because he is to lightweighted, he isnt a playmaker either because he is to slow and to ofthen needs to turn around 360' to hit a ball forward. As a winger he is to slow, and isnt good enough to cross the balls in open play, from set pieces he is good. If we take the Villa game as an excample, he didnt look interested and more than often didnt track back to help poor Edgar on the back. The game Butt didnt play because of a red card showed how much we needed a fighter in midfield, the only one we have atm that can fill Butt's place is Joey Barton, but that would be a HUGE gamble. I think Butt lost us a fair share of points last season especially with all the penalties he made against us the start of the campaign, but we need a fighter like him in the Championship. Keep him one more season till we are back up, but allready now buy a young player who can challange him for his spot in the team.

Is Guthrie good enough? Where is his best position? He doesnt have the pace to be a winger, but he have a good passing foot. As a central midfielder, he isnt good enough tracking back and tackling... Looking back at the game against Villa, he often let Edgar alone against 2-3 players by not tracking back. For me Guthrie should be a backup player at most. I think we need wingers with pace in the championship, and big strong players in the central midfield.

I say let him leave, he isnt good enough for the Premiership, and doesnt have the physic to play the championship. He is 29 years old, and isnt getting any younger. I hope we go out and find a more pacey winger/striker, with more skills. But that is my opinion, and if Shearer or if we get a new manager find him good enough for our squad, then keep him if he wants to stay.

It depends who take over our club. We need cash and stability, and a owner that backs the manager.

Is Enrique, Beye, Guthrie, and Taylor on 50k+ ? Thought Guthrie was around 20, Enrique, Taylor and Beye around 30k.
