Newcastle United promoted back to the Premier League
HawK replied to Figures 1-0 Football's topic in Football
I seem to recall lots of close wins, late scoring 1-0s to be honest. Pancrate vs Watford for that 1-0 was the epitomy of that season for me. Lots of clogg and a moment of class, reminds of this season mostly. Our goal difference was +55. You're remembering it poorly. We blew everyone away. Even in the first half of the season, which was less convincing than the second, just about every other win was by a couple of goals. Yeah I think I'm remembering (unfortuantely) the first half of the season a lot more, it seemed far from a certainty we'd go up. Then Carroll and Nolan seemed to click into gear and there was no way we'd not go up. I kinda switched off from that point and slunk into happy complacency -

Begs to be played up front in a top-two, will be off in the summer.

He was our POTS so don't think people are overrating him. He's s*** and we got relegated. Least shitty s*** is not an award of any relevance. You weren't saying that at the time like. Basically everyone was agreed that he had played decently during his run in the team Tbh the bar was so low it would have been hard to not be satisfied by the most mediocre of performances.

I think that if we were in the Premier League this year with last years squad then we would survive. The 6 teams in a relegation battle this season are all worse than our squad last season. The first time we went down in the PL, our squad was around about Europa-League quality in my opinion, not sure if it's a good barometer of chances of survival. The state of mind of the players and who's managing them can outweigh their ability by quite a large amount I think. -
Is that Net? Tbh it annoys me when every Sky pundit trots out the line about Newcastle spending a fortune in the summer, when net we didn't spend a penny.

Even though our form suggests otherwise, I'm concerned about those three away games in a row vs 2nd-4th, I think it'll be make or break, even though we're set up so much better to play away than at home. But as others have said, we perform better against better teams (usually). I'm not as confident as the bookies on 1/20 though, I hope they prove me wrong. -
I think we could have done a lot worse than bring Enrique back for this season.

It's almost like he's just not suited to playing professional football eh?

Odds on Hughton being sacked before Christmas and replaced with Pardew? -

I think most people are jittery because they know that if we don't go up this time, that's it we're done. Rafa is gone and there will literally be no hope left for the club. There wasn't the same feeling last time we were down. -
I think your Avatar is a actually a selfie, Mrs Atsu. she is white Brother of Atsu then?

Would take him off now tbh. Rafa agrees.

He's making Shelvey totally anonymous because he can't do the basic shit he should be doing in his position, like harassing the opposition players and closing them down and making space for Shelvey.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/02/10/tony-pulis-phoned-call-ryan-shawcross-loser-alleges-mark-hughes/ f***ing hell what a slimey dickhead Pulis is an underrated manager, he's keeping WBA in the top half of the prem. Literally amazing when you think about it. I think he's the sort of manager that fans of other clubs love to hate. Is it really that amazing though? Top half of the prem. Is it that amazing? Does it really mean he's that good? I beg to differ. Don't think it's that big a deal at all. Allardyce is garbage and had Bolton in the same type of positions for years. It is amazing considering WBA's stature, there are far 'bigger' clubs that can't even get in the prem, let alone be competitive. Bolton had some very experienced ex-world class players when Allardyce was managing them. Strange comparison. Besides, Allardye is far from garbage His record with teams condsidering the resources given is not bad at all.

Ashley is making a mint out of us and has been from near enough day one. For starters, If he was interested in us being successful then our income would have been maximised instead of as much as he can get away with being diverted elsewhere. Things like stadium sponsorship and club merchandise. There's also the small issue of attaching pretend debt to the club accounts to the tune of £129m and the soon to be added £33m no doubt. All done to put bidders off and allow his exploits free reign. This is also a reason why Rafa and any ambitious type will never have any sort of full control here because once they know the true picture of diverting or missed income opportunity, they'll be on it like a short. He's making a mint?.. can you explain that in financial terms please? Because being relegated twice doesn't make you a mint like. The "fake debt" you're referring to are basically losses covered. I mean I get the whole "you can't owe debt to yourself" thing, but the fact is that debt is still money spent to cover losses. I mean the blokes a c*** yes, would I like him to suffer a heart attack? yeah I would. But the stuff you're coming out with is a fantasy. Look at the SD share prices and turnover/profit from when he purchased the club to where they are today. It'd be naïve to suggest that the free advertising in a mostly Premier-league setting has generated, let alone renaming the stadium to that of his brand, again for free, has not made an impact on his personal wealth.

If only consensus existed in this world, there'd be no wars and we'd be the Borg. Awesome.
