Much prefer to lose games pre-season so we can try to improve than win vs nothing teams that don't expose our weaknesses. K there's pride to be swalled but I'm comfortable with that.

I really do not understand the 'love' of Shola. He's inept, totally useless. 1 good game in 10 and destroys our attacks without the need for the opposition to field defenders. There are so many better options in the Championship than him. He has not improved one iota since that night against Leverkusen with LuaLua under Robson because he seems to be the complete antithesis to work ethic and responsibility. Every single game of Football Manager I've ever played as Newcastle I give him away on a free before I press Continue the first time.

Some epic trolling going on here, and quite a few big bites. Forum credibility sinking. Moderation please?

he has been known on quite a few occasions to get caught in possession and try and play his way out of trouble near our own penalty area rather than just give it leather upfield/out of play and come unstuck. And how many times in 20 does he lose it? I've always thought that was his best quality, he's so very clever at retaining the ball, like Gutierrez, in a tight spot.
-
Cabaye? Just won the league in France and gave up the opportunity to play in the Champions League to sign for us. How is he not a "quality player"? I think Jose's made himself look a bit stupid and petulant tbh. Yes but we didn't spend £35m on him, so regardless of how good he is it doesn't matter. If we spent £35m on him everything would be alright though. nah that would be daft. spending 35 million on making the team better would be a canny idea though. you know, the team? the one you watch every weekend and would like to get better at playing football. The team has improved since the end of last season... It seems to me people just want the money spent, regardless on whether or not it actually improves the team. We've managed to improve it whilst not spending a lot of money, which is a huge deal because the money hasn't been spent. Easy solution - overspend. Everybody would be happy because we've spent the money that we had to agreed I don't care if the money is spent or goes into Ashley's pocket, it's all his money any way. What I care about is the endless, patronizing and unnecessary lies . Why say it's going to be invested in the squad when it isn't going to be.

Take a look at the 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 accounts and if you can't figure out yourselves, then fair enough, wait until you see the end of year accounts for last season. I'll be redirecting you to my posts when that happens. Amazes me that people are so easy to be lead around this merry-go-round.
-
Still can't believe people still defending the 35m not being re-invested in the squad as PROMISED by Pardew and by extension the Ashley/Llambias. Not a penny has been spent. Now add the substantial operating profit the club has achieved with the MASSIVE reduction in wages over the past 3 seasons combined with the BIG increase in TV money income due to the new PL deal. There's a HELL of a lot more than 35m AVAILABLE to be invested in the club, and by choosing to not allow the club to make money off the SD advertising, we would have had even more. He's taking out money that belongs to him, at the end of the day. But the endless lies, patronising comments and false hopes are what annoys me most. If it's not going to be spent, don't say it it will be.

Is that David Platt? lol edit: Oh wow it actually is him >.< Hate it when lookalikes turn out to be the real person. I bet that's the real Barthez too

Eh. Do you think a club just has to pay it's staff and that's it? There'll be plenty of other expenses that a business the size of NUFC have to pay. Also I'd guess the wage bill will have gone up a bit considering that's the Championship season's accounts, so you have to add Tiote and Ben Arfa for last year (plus any re-negotiated contracts, e.g. Taylor) and then factor in the three new lad's wages for this seasons budget. We'll make a profit, yes. We should be spending a considerable amount more, yes. But, Ashley will not make £50m+ from NUFC this season. We'll have to agree to disagree on the exact figure, but I think it can be seen it is substantial and that our working capital is NOT being fully reinvested in the squad at this moment in time. I'm not saying it's not his money to begin with, he's simply taking money out of the club that is now available that he loaned to us before. I'd just rather it was done in a way that wasn't coated in lies and false hope. I would rather have a swift statement released at the beginning of summer stating that Ashley is still trying to stabilize the debt/loans and get the club in the black and the Carroll money is helping to do that, so that in future years we will have a sound footing so that we CAN re-invest. It's the blatant lies fed to paying customers and cronyism of the highest order that I detest.

The thing is, the wages alone from Nolan and Carroll pay for the wages of the 3 new first-team signings (100 grand a week between the two). Unless we're talking about signing world-class players, signing-on and associated fees are peanuts in the grand scale of things, and are expected to be absorbed into turnover. With Ashley we can assume he hasn't spent a penny more than was required, so really, where has any of the 35m + 1/2 the TV money gone.

Are you honestly saying you think the club will have made £50m+ profit last season? He didn't say we made that much last season, the 50million is this seasons tv cash. Don't you get paid TV money after the season based on how many times you featured, not at the beginning? Regardless, there's is no way Mike Ashley will have made £50m from NUFC in the past season. I thought you got the standard bit of cash at the start of the season, then got more depending on the number of appearances. I think we should have had somewhere in the region of 40million to spend if the Carroll money was to be used on players + a tiny slice of tv money. What would have happened if we hadn't sold Carroll? Ashley would have had to give some of the TV cash to the club to spend on new players, it's not unreasonable to expect some of that money to be used in this transfer window. Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's unreasonable to expect some money to be spent. But the £50m figure was plucked out of thin air. Hardly. Add some figures in for the rest of the club's commercial income and you'll get a better picture. Just as there's extra expenses besides the wage bill. http://www.scribd.com/fullscreen/55741334 http://www.nufc.co.uk/articles/20110330/newcastle-united-limited-accounts_2281670_2326465 According to the nufc.co.uk article it clearly shows that non-TV money accounts for more than 50% of the club's turnover. I don't see where these extra expenses are coming from, our wages this summer are lower than the previous summer which in turn were lower than the summer before that. I don't see Ashley as the man to be putting ongoing expenses onto the club at all. How many millions does it take to install undersoil heating?

Rather than just deny, care to bring your own figures to the table? Mine were generous in your favour in the wages paid from TV money, if you want to do it your way, then say the whole lot (50m+) has gone straight onto wages in addition to all the matchday revenue, merchandising, sponsorship then Ashley has simply put the 35m from Carroll in his pocket at this moment. Or as I think, a lot more.

50m TV money MINIMUM (due to bigger deal than source) + 35m Carroll +4.0m Nolan = 89.0m -4.5m Cabaye Net 84.5m gain Speculative analysis: Widely accepted a proportion of TV money goes towards wages and running costs as part of budget, lets say 30m to be generous considering wages were slashed Speculative conclusion: 54.5m into Ashley's pocket as he recoups loans/initial debt-clearing investment as he looks to make NUFC a more attractive purchase for subsequent takeover while making Ashley profit in the process. The opinion: Carroll money will never be seen again and will probably be used to pay more Sports Direct bonuses down the line after he sells up.
