  1. How old is he now? If he was any good he would have made some kind of impact by now surely. Sell him while he's still worth something, a la Ranger.
  2. As with Carroll I don't think there's a chance in hell that Ashley won't milk Chelsea for every possible penny so I wouldn't worry so much about not getting so much money for him, this is Ashley ffs. Different reasons for getting good money for him than us fans but it's his goal also nonetheless. Much, much more worried about Alan Smith starting against Arsenal than the money we'll get for Tiote tbh.
  3. It's nuts, isn't it? Every single goal looks like a match fix. In general, womens' sense of spatial surroundings are much inferior to men, and they generally would have a harder time knowing where they are in relation to the goal when coming off the line or trying to narrow the angle for strikers. It's hard for us men to comprehend such a thing, but it's also why, again in general, women tend to have bigger problems parking cars than men. Not knowing 100% where you are in relation to the goal at all times will of course not help the confidence of keepers to do necessary 'brave actions' where they need to challenge for the ball, eg. aerially. This is not a sexist comment as much as a factual comment and I hoped I outlined that by saying 'in general', many times. Of course there are women out there who defy the rule as do men with the various other things women are 'proven better' at. But it goes some way to explaining why goalkeeping is so off-the-pace compared to the outfield players.

Signs are though that Carrol and Nolan (and probably Routledge) will be followed by Guitierez, Barton, Best, Enrique, Ranger, Guthrie and Smith (OK, no tears on that last one! ). Add in Harper and that's a team's worth. Plus, on top of the new signings, in Ben Arfa and Gosling we have two more players yet to be bedded in. If rumors qualify as departures, can we do the same for incomings? In which case none of that is going to be a problem because we've got Barnetta, N'Zogbia, Matuidi, M'Bengue, Taylor, Berbatov, Erdinc, and Sturridge. I think we might still have someone looking at Kuyt too

For every Andy Carroll and Charles N'Zogbia you're going to have 10 fails, speculate to accumulate.

    So he hasnt said anything.

I think him being off injured and the way we let him just recover in France has done us the world of good (transfers etc), we didn't need him to stay up last season, but if he'd carried us higher I'd have been very worried a top club would of come in for him. In a perverted way, in retrospect, I'm happy he was out, under the radar this season, so there's hardly any chance of him being moved on ahead of this season - the season we're going to need him if we're going to push for a good place.

    Kevin Nolan

Very happy if Pardew is any way involved with this, a team with Nolan in the starting 11 is never going to finish top 10. He's done well for us, fair play to him and wish him well. Provided replacements are signed who can score goals to make up for this and Carroll's loss it's a step forward.
  13. Aye it was a great feeling towards the end of our Championship season
  14. You'd hire a hitman for Kenny before any of the current Newcastle Board?
  15. Very average, his set-pieces were worse than I've seen in any Lille match this season. Hopefully he's trying to make himself look s****, because he doesn't want any other clubs to gazump us. I didn't watch the match, but I thought one of his strong points was supposed to be his set pieces. If they were atrocious, then that's not encouraging news at all coz since Robert, we've been dying for someone to do the set pieces! Did you just choose not to watch any games this year?
  16. I actually think there's something there to suggest smith_1 is alan smith Regardless, his wages are not his fault, it was the board's at the time when he was signed. As for what he brought to the club, between all the injuries, not a great deal.. will probably be remembered in a similar way to Babayaro, Carr and Duff... just were not good enough either through lack of application or not giving a shit. Might go on to do well elsewhere

    Kevin Nolan

You don't build a team around a guy like Nolan with his age, mobility and what he brings to the team. Carroll was the guy we should have built the team around, but with him gone we're just going to have to wait until September 1st to see what the masterplan is. I look forward to seeing if Pardew's any good in the market as with Graham Carr we have a really good pair of eyes to judge players with.

    The England Thread

If ever there was a manager made for England it's old saggy-face, the sooner the better.
  21. And after 13 years I can only hope it ends now
  22. 2nd choice keeper for the 2nd best international team in the world, but not good enough for us? Jesus. Will the Harper love-in die already, he's been here so long so that means he 'deserves' to be no.1 tripe does my head in. Put Harper no.2, sell/loan Forster. Done and done move on.
  23. No problem with that really. He's not the best going forward but if we get the attacking side right with the players we have targeted then it won't be so important. I quite like James Perch as well given the right set up in front of him.
