I’ve already said that it wasn’t just Tino at fault for their goal. But standing there ending up doing nothing isn’t exactly great defending. He was standing next to two other opposition players, that’s what he did. You keep talking about IF the ball was deeper…. Well it wasn’t, and that’s what awareness and anticipation is all about when it comes to defending and reading the game. As I’ve already said, it’s not the end of the world and neither is everything Tino’s fault, I repeat everything wasn’t his fault. I’m also not expecting him to beat Bednarek in the air. But IF he had more awareness and better anticipation he could have done at least something. Im not sure if he’s scared of aerial challenges or something. He often allows the ball to bounce and decides to wait in some situations instead of attacking it.

Therefore I think he should have shown more awareness of what was coming in and where the ball was going and prioritised the biggest danger instead of just standing still.

Would have been much better off giving Gordon a few minutes off. He plays a bit too much. No need to throw him up front for even more minutes.

Ultra critical He was flat footed doing nothing. He should have tried to be more on his toes at least trying to go for the ball. That’s the best and the least he can do in a difficult situation with 2 others around him. If he had tried to attack the ball or ran towards where it was going then it would have at least made it more difficult for them if he was at least in that space trying to challenge physically. He wasn’t the only one at fault for their goal obviously not. But doing absolutely NOTHING is never a good idea. The awareness wasn’t there and he just froze basically.

Thought it was pretty obvious that I was talking about their goal… Im not fussed about the disallowed goal. That was all on Schär.

There’s a reason players need to read certain situations and anticipate what is going to happen to be able to defend or at least do something to make it more difficult for the opposition. Tino did nothing but standing between, or just off two players and not being near close enough or trying to make it more difficult for them by blocking a path, attacking the ball or at least be slightly closer and a bit physical. It’s not the end of the world and it’s not the first time a player does it, nor the last time. But you can point your fingers at certain situations where player/manager/team should have done better, iYou don’t have to defend precisely everything. In football people get praised and criticised, it’s the way it always has been and will be. As long as it’s not over the top either way. Theres absolutely no chance that Howe is happy with our defending for that goal.

I said a few things wrong. I didn’t demand Tino to win a header against Bednarek, but he could and should have read and at least try to deal with the situation better. If he was more aware in that situation he could have at least been there challenging and trying to disrupt a free path for Bednarek.

A few things went wrong for their goal, but Tino’s lack of awareness there was abysmal. He’s often ball watching a bit too much.

Feels like both of them have played a bit too much. Not checked actual minutes.

Play Gordon too much imo. No reason to leave him on the pitch alone up front.

Really like Iraola. Intense and good football but also good in possession and controlling games well when needed.

Job done and happy days, but not exactly good/professional. But I’ll take it every day of the week.

One of very few who I trust to be professional and 110% focused and not sloppy here and there too often. Such great mentality, intelligence and composure. Absolutely class. So good tactically.
