Tbf I never liked Liverpool, always hated them since the early days when the city was a racist hotbed and both Merseyside clubs refused to sign black players long after everyone else had broke the mold. We'll have to perform extra special this season, we saw last season how Liverpool and Man U, the nation's favoured northern teams* got extra points throughout the season as a result of their blessed status, now we are seeing already how marginal decisions will be weighted in their favour, winning them points they haven't really earned. I said in another thread I had no idea how Man U ended up in the CL, I think today's game shows exactly how.

Could not be arsed to watch the Man U game live, but not surprised having watched it on MOTD to see the officials pitch in to make sure Man U got their win. Not surprised either to see Beeb joining in with the collusion, it's a long standing relationship. Makes those who thought it was right for Mac Allister's red card overule ensuring a timely return tomorrow against direct rivals look a bit naive. The game is bent, but it's the marginal decisions where the refs and their nailed on flags make the difference.

He's a great manager if mid-table obscurity is your aim. West Ham are stuck with him now because he won them a cup so their fans have at least one more season of dull, physical football to look forward to.

I still think he can do a job for a lot of PL teams tbh. He's not great at bringing the ball out, but he's a solid defender, and he scores the odd goal from set pieces as well. I'd be happy to keep him as cover if no one wants to cough up decent money for him, and by decent money I would say around £8m.

Fulham would have got Targett if they had agreed to a loan with an obligation to buy. Can only assume they weren't convinced on him as a long term buy and just wanted the loan deal for a year.

It's similar to the Umpire's call in cricket. Sounds like a good idea in theory, but in practice, if the official has even the hint of bias in him (and they all do) then those marginal decisions always go in favour of the team he wants to win. Over time these decisions add up massively in the favour of the big teams, at least in football.

This is my take on it. Howe already hinted business was more or less done. I think would have to be a long term target becoming available to change that, and none of the names I'm hearing strike me as that.

I don't disagree, but the key part in there was we won't be spending £40m on a CB cover in this window. So there's little point in lusting after what you can't have. If we can sell him and get someone in on loan who can do a similar job then fine, but I don't see it.

He's not really let us down when he's had to step in though. It would be nice to upgrade him for a newer model, but the prices we have been talking about are around £40m, I just don't think we will be spending that on another defender this window.

It's not really if you think about what he can actually do if he stays fit and motivated for any period of time. Just strikes me as someone who doesn't take his career as seriously as he should.

I don't know enough about him to know if he's a grifter, but I imagine there's plenty of privately educated or well to do Newcastle fans out there. That doesn't make them any less passionate fans of the club. Is he a member of UKIP or something?

I always had that impression of Saudi Arabia, that's why their headlong rush into entering the 21st century doesn't really make much sense. They are supposedly developing womens leagues over there unless I'm mistaken. How would that even work?
