My mate is a Bolton fan and is going to Lisbon for the upcoming UEFA cup tie. With their being no flights direct from Newcastle to Lisbon and with our lot traveling to Lisbon just recently, any help would be appreciated with regards to routes there. He's asked: 1- Did anyone fly to Faro and get to Lisbon that way and if yes, how difficult was it? 2- Did anyone take any imaginative routes that involved a connection somewhere? I had a lively debate with my mate the other week with regards to the quality of Sir Les. I claimed that Ferdinand in his prime was better than Shearer in his prime, but Shearers prime lasted 5/6 years while Ferdinands lasted only the two years he was with us. For me, Ferdinand was a sensation. He had everything. Pace, power, workrate, great finishing off both feet, great movement, and above all he was sensational in the air. Probably my favourite Newcastle player ever.

It doesn't matter that much really. Once Shearer is on board as number two, Berbatov will join us to work with him. Simple.

I'm really surprised a Premier League club hasn't taken a gamble on Zoltan Gera yet. He's out of contract in the summer. He always reminded me a little of Nobby, slightly less talented but physically superior. Would be a good option for every team outside the top 4 for me.

I think he deserves a run up front. He's very average in my opinion but he holds the ball up just as well as Viduka at the moment, battles for every ball, is willing to run a channel and defends from the front. These are things we just aren't getting at the moment. The performance of Drew Talbot for Luton yesterday shows how a very limited player who works hard and runs channels can occupy and trouble defenders. As Smith is the only one of our strikers willing to be aggressive and let defenders know he is there, he should be given the chance up front. How you replace his creativity and dynamism in midfield is beyond me though!
