I agree, it guarantees nothing. But some respected journalists have said we missed out on Trafford because we messed about, and it was suggested Joao Pedro the same. those two deals make for a very different season imo. All if’s and but’s of course.

I think he means the competency and speed of the deals done. if we’d had that last summer it wouldn’t have panned out as it did. that part isn’t on Howe.

I’m desperate for him to do well, and as a result I cling on to any chink of light he offers in games to convince myself that he’ll come good. Even I’m now at the point where I don’t believe it’ll work for him here. He’s miles off it in so many ways imo. It’ll be best for us all if he has a great World Cup and we can offload him for close to what we paid. Such a shame, so much to like about him as a player and a person.

I think the (very loose) link is the fact he’s currently behind the ground at the RVI. Clutching at straws doesn’t really do it justice though.

One side of your argument is about being a team player, once that’s compared you flip it to a conversation about talent. for the record, nobody is comparing shearer to Gordon as a centre forward in terms of talent. Literally not one person. but if Gordon wasn’t a team player for not handing over his penalty, then neither was shearer who did literally the same thing. That’s the comparison being made, and rightly so.

how does it not make sense? Woltemade isn’t the pen taker (and missed his last one). Gordon is. It really is as simple as that. what difference does it make that shearer was a striker? Gordon was the striker in that game. And? No it doesn’t set alarm bells at all. Does it for you, like? Woltemade scored a few days ago, I’m sure he’s fine.

agreed. Duo (and I’m guessing ‘True Geordie’s’) point is that Gordon (striker in the game and pen taker) should have handed the pen to big Nick as it would have shown Gordon was a team player. It’s totally fair to compare that to shearer (striker and pen taker), who absolutely would not have given the pen to big Nick. ability doesn’t come in to it.

As a player I’m not, but your point isn’t about ability it’s about putting the team first. So my point stands. Gordon is the pen taker, I can’t even see how this is a debate.
