  1. There were certainly echoes of Mike Basset in England relying on Andorra to qualify. Only in this case, they didn't.
  2. blah blah those marvellous fans blah blah

    Crouch

    Nah. Too mongy looking
  4. A ridiculous idea from a ridiculous chairman imo. As always these people think about their wallets to the exclusion of everything else and hold the average fan in contempt. When he says it's good for the game he means it's good for the bottom line. Mind you I expect he needs to find the money to pay our Kieron's medical bills.......
  5. Martins caused us all manner of problems at St James last season. Martins would be the best choice to hammer Reading. Interesting analysis, this and your other posts. Did WHU play on the break or all out attack?
  6. Same. I agree with others though that staying put would most likely be miles better for him as a manager though. Particularly if he can get them promoted. He'll not get much of a sun tan in Bolton either
  7. Arguably Ameobi, Ramage, Carr and Baba improve the squad by being injured
  8. I suspect it has more to do with Freddy throwing his toys out the pram when he was dismissed from his job following the Fraud Squad raids. Might not be the club's doing but Freddy's in other words.....
  9. Tricky tie. Reading's home form is decent, our away form is poor.

    Do We Need Faye?

It was a question, he is starting to answer it. While I doubt you revived this thread for the purposes of showing someone up, many other threads get recalled for that purpose and it's obnoxious. Opinions can change and a lot can happen in a month. I admit I was skeptical but hopeful. Question: will this thread be necromancered up when he has a s**** game or two? Probably but he is now part of 4 centre halfs who all have an abundance of experience in one way or another which means we have squad depth for once which is good. I agree we've got good depth atm at centre back. The full back position is not so good unless you rate Carr and Babayaro; otherwise the back up for Beye and Enrique are I think players out of their usual position. Also I assume Beye and Faye will be playing in the Africas Cup, and will therefore disappear for a few games in January.
  11. Excellent result. Watched it on telly. My thoughts are: - the midfield played too deep imo.......not enough link up play between midfield and strikers......Emre needed to get up in support of Martins and Owen....too often it was 2 vs 4 - too many long balls to 2 little strikers.....with the exception of Martins' goal, this tactic didn't work - we started coasting at 2-0 and paid for it dearly. Having said that, they didn't look likely to score - thank god Dawson was playing, he was terrible - staggered Berbatov didn't start, apart from the goal we handled Bent easily All in all not a fluent performance but happy with 3 points
  12. Chelsea. Apparently Boro's fan made it home from the match in time for his tea, the cops gave him a call to make sure though

    Urby Emanuelson

Wouldn't it just be incredible if he was negotiating his wages with Ajax and this sort of story came out from, say, his agent?
  14. i personally think that all it would take to get him, is Big Al in his capacity as a Toon ambassador to speak to the lad and sell him newcastle and he would jump at the chance, he would be a 10x better signing than vids and by all accounts he would be fulfilling a boyhood dream otherwise we wouldn't even be discussing this. All it would take is a big fat pay cheque, a top 4 club in the champions league, and the possibility of winning a trophy or two imo. There's precious little sentiment in football these days especially from foreigners
  15. There's about as much journalism in your story as there is in theirs
  16. It beggars belief doesn't it? Gartside's so full of s***, Mr Big Shot Chairman reduced to trying to get Bruce....the poor old Bolton fans must be shitting themselves - worse still they've been linked to Souness as well........that's like asking whether you'd prefer to be shot or garotted with barbed wire. If I were them I'd be praying for Jewell to get his arse off the sunbed.
  17. Poor reporting from a poor newspaper. If only the paper was more absorbent, it might be useful for toilet paper. As it is, it's good for nothing.
  18. Good point Whatever......
  19. I like the fact we have a few fans of other clubs on here - it gives a different perspective. If what they're posting doesn't interest me, I don't read it. Jol can post what he likes as far as I'm concerned.
  20. Phil Gartside would be well advised to keep his trap shut. I hope he's feeling embarrassed sacking Sammy Lee after some of the things he said about him being the dog's bollocks in the summer.
  21. Agreed. If he's sighted in the vicinity of the toon he should be tarred and feathered and run out of town, like the snake oil salesman he is.

    Club v Country

I'm indifferent to England. I can only support one team through years of constant disappointment. Hopefully Owen will come back fit and the extra games will help his match sharpness. Ideally Mclaren will sub him on 70 minutes again.
  23. What position does he play in? £9m seems a lot.....
  24. Yet more mischief making in the press . I wonder if this is just Fleet Street making hay or whether someone is stirring it up. His agent would be the most obvious culprit, as he would make money from Owen moving in Jan.
  25. Me too, but I can understand people's frustration. And the club faces a difficult choice if, as seems likely, he has no intention of signing a new contract with us.
