Capello can't afford to strip him of the captaincy and boot him out the team. Like it or not he's a key part of the England set up. However, if Terry were to give up the England captaincy, it would sort alot of this mess out.

A review of the season so far: Have we lost perspective?
STM replied to The Prophet's topic in Football
Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful we're on our way back up but I can't agree that this season has been remarkable or much of an achievement to be honest. We're only top of the league because it's a shite league and our position is more about our opponents than us. Isn't it remarkable that our current set of players have managed it though? -

By the way, don't be naive enough to think that Hughton doesn't know exactly what he is doing by playing this boring (solid) formation and style. He's playing to our strengths because he probably knows we don't have enough on the front foot. I suspect if we got promoted he would invest in new midfielders (he'd have to ). -

Completely agree, i believe we have lost some perspective and was going to make a similar post. Although TBF it's par for he course around here. Most of the fans that frequent this forum are passionatley in love with NUFC and it's only through this which you get the instant reactions from them after a poor performance. Most people realise it's been a fairly remarkable season but are just a bit frustrated by the style of football. Should we win promotion people will realise what an achievement it has been and the optimism will return for the future, even if it's just for a short while. -
He didn't keep it yesterday, he was constantly harried out of possession even against ten men. Don't know which game you were watching...probably the same one as Johnny who thinks Pancrate coming on as sub was our biggest problem. He did have a bad game yesterday. What does that prove? the point is it wasn't a one off. I must have missed all his other poor performances, despite seeing all of our games and reading all the reviews. It's more likely that there is knee-jerking going on but i'm sure that will be denied. Guthrie is a good young player, one that is being wasted time after time.

Yep, be involved in a nasty relegation battle at a club that likely have 4 months left in the Premiership and will then disapear without a trace. Or be involved in a promotion push where he can establish himself and continue to improve followed by a full season in the Premiership at a much bigger club, I agree its a no brainer. You are not promoted yet, you may not be this season, I understand its a hard adjustment to make, you are a big club with fantastic support, but at the moment you are not competing with Wigan, they are a class above you! They are a league above actually but hopefully only for the next four months.

If he was in the WBA side, he'd be in the centre of midfield and happy. That's what i'm implying.
-
I thought he was good but wasn't convinced about his pace, time will tell.
-
Guthrie "weak in possession". He's one of our only players who can keep the ball FFS. He's been pretty good for us this season, in spite of the fact he's been played out of position in almost every meaningful game. If he was in WBA current side, we'd all be talking about what a good player he is.
-
Looked decent going forward. Its hard to really enthuse about him, knowing he's only here as a short term stopgap. Nothing to say we won't try and sign him in the future though. Not quite sure whether he will be part of their plans either.
-
Thank god the footballing world doesn't run by your "footballing for dummies" then.
-
Aye we should sack Hughton and hire Pearson.
-
We can get loans in after monday, moron. Well that's ok then. Who gives a shit that we've dropped points again. We'd all prefer to sign 6 new players on the first day on the window but that's not realistic. There's a whole list of strikers who Hughton has missed out on through no fault of his own. So perhaps you will give him the next couple of weeks to rectify the situation.

It's hard to be angry at Hughton considering teh job he has done but i wish he would have more balls when it comes to attacking football. The fans will turn when we play and lose in this style in the premiership.
-
Thankfully i'm almost certain that Hughton has other targets.
-
I understand the view that we haven't got much in the way of strikers but Shola isn't much better TBF (although i'd have him as first choice). I'd probably play Lovenkrands for the pace.
-
Meh... you can see why he's gone there. Support is about all we've got up on them right now. I can imagine Martinez is a fantastic catch for young players. I think he's talented too but i don't think they will last in the premiership. Moses is a good player but i don't see why we should get all worked up about losing him TBH. He's far from certain to be a good premiership player.
-
Yes, i also saw him absolutely boss the game at the back in general for us. He takes control far moreso than Colo, not that Colo had a bad game either. They were both good. Shame for most of the dross in front of them.
-
Carroll was abysmal. He couldn't look less like he would score.
-
Trying not to be a complete idiot and overboard like some on here, my views are these; Harper -6 Quiet enough day had a couple of stops to make Taylor- 6 His crossess caused problems for them, shaky at the back Williamson- 8 Won everything, let down by midfield Coloccini- 7 Barely put a foot wrong Aanholt(sp)- 8 Looked brilliant going forward Routledge- 7 One of our few bright players Butt- 4 Shit, usual dross Smith- 5 Poor as recent form Guthrie- 6 At least got involved toward the end Nolan- 5 Apart from one shot at the start was invisible Carroll- 5 Won a few early headers, then was useless toward the end Ranger- 7 Should have started, looked sharp. Pancrate- 6 Actually thought he was ok Really should have beaten a very poor 10 man Leicester. However, i think when Jonas returns he will link up well with the dutch lad, which is a plus for the period that Jose is out.
