Newcastle United 5-0 Crystal Palace (16/04/25)

I thought this game was going to be our banana skin game after the good win over Man U. The kind of game where you dominate the game and then lose to a last minute goal. Like we did in the away game. But that was a fully dominant team game. Excelling across the field, beautiful goals. Frikking loved these last three games. -
If they are saying they get 40k per game, then the parade and town moor had at least 500k

He’s trying to sit on the Fence and be able to take the money but also not get criticism. Probably got called out for it and now trying to “ah, but” he is way back into the popular side of the argument.

Based on nothing more than his name and one game against us… I’d love to see young Kluivert in Black and White stripes. Commentators would have a field day with the comparisons

Excited for this … wondering what it does for MLS as it could put pressure on them to become the top league of the pyramid. But I just cannot see any Franchise holder willingly give up their guaranteed spot to accept the relegation risk. Anyway, here’s the details. United Soccer League (USL) club owners voted on Wednesday for a promotion and relegation system, marking the first time the European-style system would be implemented in the United States. Last month, USL confirmed plans to launch a Division One men's professional league in 2027 to rival Major League Soccer within the sanctioning standards of the U.S. Soccer Federation. USL said that league would operate completely separately from MLS, despite working under the same sanctioning by U.S. Soccer as a professional soccer league. This new league would give the USL a three-tiered pro system featuring the Division One, plus a second-division called the USL Championship and third-division USL League One. The USL would be the first major sports league to employ promotion and relegation in the United States. "Promotion and relegation transforms the competitive landscape of American soccer," USL president Paul McDonough said. "With the 2026 World Cup and other major international events approaching, we have a unique opportunity to build on that momentum and create a sustainable future for the sport in the U.S. Fans and stakeholders have been clear -- they want something different. They're drawn to the intensity of high-stakes competition, where more matches have real consequences -- just like we see in European leagues. This shift challenges the status quo and brings a level of excitement and relevance that can elevate the game across the country.” -
He doesn’t lack any confidence… that’s for sure. Hope his ability matches his confidence.

They jump straight to assuming that we take some land in Leazes Park and give nothing back from current footprint. We might not return the current ground area to parkland but I’m pretty sure that we will… it’s not like we’re asking to have both grounds. Returning the current area to a city park would enhance the city and make the walk to our new home even more special.

Felt that save won us the game. It was a great move, a good shot and had it gone in it could have been very different. Getting back to 2-1 with that much time left in the Game would have had Liverpools tails up, but Pope slammed the door in their face. Felt that they realized it wasn’t going to be their day from that point on.

He had looked really good for Frankfurt, combined with Mamoush really well. Can see why Eddie liked him as a player.

Missed a 95th minute penalty with chance to tie game. Soft shot and not far enough 8th corner.

Laws of the game A goal cannot be scored directly from a throw-in: if the ball enters the opponents’ goal – a goal kick is awarded if the ball enters the thrower’s goal – a corner kick is awarded

Yes, just like the Chinese league a few years ago, overpaying for star names but still no TV audience. I really don’t understand their strategy or goals for the league.
-
I don’t understand the Saudi pro league strategy. They pay huge salaries compared to premier league or European clubs so why not wait until the players are free agents and the sign them. There is no need or benefit to sign players like Salah, for a big transfer fee, with a year left on his contract, when they can promise Salah mega buck when his contact expires. Saudis paying transfer fees for soon-to-be free agents makes no financial sense.

It is a city, and it’s also the Emirate that the city is within. Like New York, New York. -
Sharing games across networks doesn’t affect US viewers as the games are going out on over-the-air major TV channels which everyone has, so it’s not forcing people to buy multiple packages. Once NFL games go to Amazon, Peacock, Paramount etc, then it will be problematic trying to watch your team. plus the US is so large that they can split the games on NBC or FOZ by local market so that Dallas can watch the Cowboys and Detroit can watch the Lions even though they are both playing at 3pm on a Sunday. Wouldn’t that be great if ITV showed Newcas5le games in Tyne Tees are while Man UTD shown in Granada (if those TV regions still exist)

Losing the Sat 3pm game (and the early Sat kickoff) would affect the US ma4ket, as these games have found a great niche being played before the US football games start. They play when there are no other live sports games on and therefore have an uninterrupted market. Pushing the games to 5pm or later and your now competing with College Football on Saturdays, ad NFL on Sunday’s. Less eyeballs means less $$ for the US broadcast rights.

Harvey Barnes scores a Harvey Barnes goal. A cookie cutter goal - cuts inside onto his right foot, gets a half yard of space and curls it into the top corner. Seen that move many times from him…. Love it

It’s the sprint to the goal line before the shot, when he realizes the danger, that makes the clearance even better.
