  1. totally different,at least in the case of bellamy as we had no-one to play wide right (where he has played before) and could play shola through the middle instead. What? As far as I can remember we had Bowyer, Ambrose, Dyer and Milner who could all play on the right and allow our best player (which was undoubtedly Bellamy at that time) to play in his proper position. I seem to remember one match when we had Shola, Bellamy, Kluivert, Robert, and Shearer all on the pitch. The fella was a mentalist, man. bowyer was playing centre mid at the time (or going throught one of his s*** spells)...dyer injured (at a guess)ambrose was s*** and i'm gonna check toonstats to see where milner was Look, I know you love Souness, but there can really be no excuse for playing Shola on the left. Even worse than playing Martins on the right. Didn't Sam play Shola on the left against Arsenal in the cup?
  2. I'd take it! Would be an absolute stab in the dark. On one side he could be an excellent manager, on the other he could be as bad as Souness. Every manager at every club is a massive gamble
  3. Well won't Chelsea be without Terry, Carvalho, Cole, Drogba and maybe Lampard?
  4. Funny how how best defensive records came under how most attack minded manager isn't it?
  5. You would have said the same about the SJP expansion 5 years ago And? 5 years ago no one could have predicted that we would be in the freefall that we were at the end of Fred's time. That's stunning, don't you think? 10 years ago I don't think many predicted that we'd be in financial trouble and our future would be looking seemingly bleak. That's the main thing I've been trying to say so far, though god knows I've tried my best to sound as confusing as possible. ??? And in 5 years time Wenger may have let and Arsenal may be struggling to get 8th place in the Premier league. You've said exactly what I was getting at, the Emirates looks sound now, SJP look sound 5 years ago Aye, the MANAGER makes a massive difference, which is where we went wrong with the appointment of Souness, obviously. .....or even the sacking of SBR? didn't hear too many voices against it at the time. Never mind, after today, do you hope the club continue carrying on putting the books first, standby for more real mediocrity or worse. I thought when the Halls and Shepherd left, all this mediocrity would come to an end. I reckon we need a few of these quality trophy players to get up the league a bit, don't you Never mind trophey - upper mid table would do right about now
  6. With Shearer you would get time and goodwill from fans and media. I've got doubts over his personality (too Souness maybe) for management but he seems switched on enough to know his weaknesses and employ the appropriate people to compensate them. He'd be stupid to take over before we lose to the big 4 in the next few weeks thogh - and both he and Mike know this (imo of course)
  7. I'd take a reissue of the 96/97 home shirt please

  10. I seem to recall Tim Flowers having the same problem. If you watch any 'goals of the season' from around 94-97 watch out for Tim, never stuck his arms out fully when going for long rangers and always seemed to dive backwards. Getting beat regularly frm disatnce is a weakness, but is ususally down to technique so can be worked on. I'm sure Shay recognises this - well he better had
  11. Does anyone else ever wonder what they did in a previous life to be a Toon fan? Edit: Dukes!!!!!
  12. City should thank him mackems.gif City are thanking us. :-[ At leaast he will be 'unavailable' for the start of next season
  13. I'm guessing (with it being Sam) it wil be Duff for Martins and Emre for Barton??
  14. And I had him down as my worst value signing of the summer!
  15. How can that possibly be a fact? Because Keegan says so. He said that Shepherd, Fletcher and Hall Jnr wanted him, and Hall Snr didn't. Unless you know better ... whatever misinterpretation others wish to say .... I'm sure i remember seeing a Keegan quote...something along the lines of...(on the phone to SJH) "there are only 2 people who can save this club now, and they're on the phone to each other now" Does that mean anything? That was a SJH quote, was when KK walked out after a couple of weeks due to lack of promised funds
  16. it's absolute madness but they'll never learn Or even Beardsley
  17. 2 years ago who would have thought that Man City would be in pole position to sign Michale Owen, his current club (mid table) are split on keeping him and City fans would be split on buying him, possibly preferring Peter Crouch. Its a funny old game as some drunk once said
