  1. These stats are useful for seeing which results can be expected to regress to the mean. Someone scoring a bunch of 30 yard screamers won't keep it up but someone tapping in goals every other game can be expected to keep it up. You can break it down to every facet of the game. In other sports I think it's extremely useful, in football less so because football is far too dynamic to break it down this way. A team analysis would be more useful and in that sense, goal difference has always been extremely useful in identifying teams that are getting more points than their level would suggest. Of course, there aren't enough matches for the sample size to be big enough.
  2. The same Paulinho that was atrocious at Spurs? Bartomeu will end up like Rowell in jail.
  3. Physical attributes are more important to a team like ours at this stage of our revival. Maybe a couple more years down the line, if we have established ourselves in the league, we can look for improvement.
  4. Barca don't have enough pace in their team anymore. Dembele will help, but he's replacing an extremely fast player. Their midfield is too slow. Messi has obviously lost pace, and I think him and Suarez will find it hard to score against the better sides if there is no pace in the rest of the team.
  5. So the Coutinho deal is off then? Will Barca get him to hand in a transfer request?
  6. If Kane was out for the season, Son would get around 20 goals, IMO.
  7. Son is that player. And he's the perfect player for that role.
  8. But continuity for them is important. It's a success that they haven't been forced to sell their best players. With Walker they already had a ready replacement. I like what Spurs are doing. Their best players are all young enough that an improvement can lead another run at the title.
  9. Is the Coutinho news legit? I've got money on him going.
  10. Banning loans and buyback clauses would do much to create competition than having a transfer fee cap. The money is what it is. As long as people continue to watch on TV and in the stadium, the money will grow.
  11. Happy for Neymar if he goes, to be honest. Make the most of his career financially. Rather that than the owners making a profit. His deal will also set the benchmark for other players, pushing up wages for everyone else in the industry. This includes manager, coaches, scouts etc.
  12. Wow this is fast. Looks like a good signing too. Young, highly rated.
  13. They've stopped paying hefty amounts for mature players and have become so much better for it.
  14. Madrid always bet on teenagers though, and their bets turn out well so often.
  15. After 3 years of non investment before. Ashley hasn't shown that he's willing to even run the club at break even at all.
  16. Yup. There's a long way to run here because tech companies are beginning to compete with traditional media companies, so the cost of content is rocketing. The Premier League is premium sports content.
  17. Manquillo will be good. We need a 3-4 more players and it'll be a good summer; LB, CM, AM, ST. We've only spent £25m net. That means around £50m remaining plus outgoings. £15m each on 4 players?
  18. 3 years ago he was extremely highly rated. Not quite on the Santon level but still highly rated. Capped at U21 for a good Spanish side, has experience in the Premier League. He's fast enough to play in England, maybe needs games to build up some confidence. Playing in a Benitez team will help with that.
  19. He was highly rated only a few years ago. Would be another young kid with excellent pedigree. I hope this one happens simply for the reason that he's highly rated and young, and will come relatively cheap.

    Jacob Murphy

Young, promising, English player. Good signing.

Sounds similar to Aarons without the injury headaches. Obviously a lot further forward in his progress judging by the price tag. His career path is nothing like that of Rolando Aarons. TRon once compared the career path of Lennox Lewis to Aarons. He's off his fucking nut. I agree. This kid looks good on Youtube. Sign me up.
  22. If those are our wingers then we're going to struggle to create chances.
  23. So the last time we were in the Premier League, the club made 5m profit, taking into account 70m spent. The TV money for that year was 70m. The drop in TV money during our year in the Championship, factoring in the parachute payments, was around 30m. We made a 30m profit on transfers, which balanced out the drop in TV money. I'm guessing we'll be showing a very similar P&L compared to the year before, roughly around -10m to +10m, probably with a slight loss. We're up again now. Finishing 20th next year will net us a minimum of 100m in TV money. That's 30m more than the last time we were in the league. Last time, we also had a net spend of 70m. Our wages were 75m the last time we were in the league, assume a 25% rise after transfers for the upcoming season, we're looking at around 95m in wages. We should be able to spend, comfortably 90m this year. If there is the expectation to finish top 12, for example, we should be able to spend close to 120m net. Just something to consider when analyzing our transfers after the window closes.
