i don't know anything about Fulham but i know Villa are one of them clubs, like Everton & Man City that always has a good youth team, they have an excellent academy set up. They beat us 2-1 really early in the season but i think we are playing much better now.

Chris, that was actually the worst game i've seen Tavernier have in a year and half! Thought Newton was tremendous along with Dummett and Alnwick pulled off some good saves. Inman was quiet but still showed his quality in possession and hardly misplaced a pass all game. Sami Ameobi looked like a player who was making his first start in months after being injured. Also thought the team shape was excellent, 4 3 3, but plenty of movement and interchanging, Newton holds in midfield, Inman was playing off the striker and Mcdermott in between them. Makes a change watching a Newcastle team with a mobile midfield. I wonder if Vukcic will get back in time to play in the semis.....or even the final!

i've went and stuck a fiver on Man U, Leeds, Charlton, Swindon, Norwich, Aldershot, Rochdale and Southampton. I had planned on just on backing Colchester with the first 5 on my list but when that was off got a bit carried away, normally don't like more than 6 on my acca but like people have said there's alot of tempting games tonight! On the plus side tho if it comes up i win £172

Walton scored a boatload of goals at youth level but even struggled with the step up to reserve level and was never going to make it in the first team. Think it comes down alot to attitude and mental toughness, Walton had a bad attitude and was a few years ago thinking of being a boxer instead of a footballer. We've had loads of players in the last 10-15 yrs who've scored goals galore for the youth team but never made the grade and he's on that list.

Good win for the young uns yesterday away at Derby, won 4-1, Mcdermott with 3 and the new lad from the Faroes with the goals, perfect warm up for the big FA youth cup quarter final on Thursday night at SJP.

We shouldn't have signed Best. We should have loaned Harewood for rest of the season before he picked up his injury at Villa in training or we should have loaned some other Prem striker in for a few months. Were stuck with Best who sadly isn't the best. I'm open to him playing and turning opinion around but he's going to be under a lot scrutiny. He hit a decent cross for Carroll's goal against Swansea but that's about it so far. As for Ranger, defo agree he needs to be out on loan somewhere so he can get some experience. Perhaps now that Lovenkrands his picked up a knock we will keep him as cover though. Harewood broke his foot and is out for the season, or most of it, we couldn't sign him even if we wanted too.

Carroll had a poor game yesterday, although yet again the service he got was abysmal, but he seemed off the pace, maybe his impending court case on Thursday was preying on his mind?

Does Vicarage Road still have rugby played on it(Saracens i think), we may struggle to impose our neat passing game if the pitch is bad!!! ;-)

Yes looks like Godsmark, Lough and Danquah have already been told they can go, no real loss, Godsmark is too small and lightweight, Lough is a steady left back but not quite good enough and Danquah is all fancy flicks and no end product, probably great in 5 a sides! BAheng and Morris are both coming to the end of their contracts, both tricky ones, Baheng has been unlucky with injuries and while he likes a flick and a step over too much like his mate Danquah he maybe worth keeping for another year and Morris rarely gets a look in but has broken in the Ireland under 20 or 21's and seems to have done ok for them. I think i'd be tempted to give him another season as well and bin Tozer instead who is going backwards.

Great to see young Ferguson getting into the action again, he's hardly been used at youth level this season (due to age restrictions), which is a shame as he's a great little player to watch on the wing. Fergie played well tonight, bizarrely started the game in centre midfield with Paddy Mclaughlin on the left wing before they switched back to their normal positions after about 20 mins. I thought Paddy was having a good game but he was subbed for Inman on the hour mark.

Just got back, good 2 nil win and decent game on an awful pitch. Airey scoring twice but could easily have had 5, he missed two one on ones and hit the post with a header from 6 yards in the second half. He should actually have scored 10 seconds before he got his first after been sent clear by Fergusons thru ball he hit the post. From the resulting goal kick, which was duffed by the keeper he was sent clean thru and this time thumped it home. It was also announced at the match that the quarter final of the youth cup is going to be played a week on Thursday, 25th Feb at SJP with a 7pm kick off.

the reserves are back in action on Monday night, playing at home to Leeds at Whitley park, 7pm, free entry to everyone. Its months since they last played at home (think it was the game at SJP when Pancrate was on trial) and should be a decent game. Also a chance that Barton may feature which would be canny bearing in mind the form of our midfielders at the minute.

don't know about the mackems using Z cars but Everton use it.

i don't want to knee-jerk but by christ that was fucking abysmal. i don't think we strung 3 passes together all game and thankfully they were toothless or we could've seen a repeat of the drubbing we got off Derby. The midfield were, well basically just inept, both with and without the ball, Nolan absolutely abysmal the other 3 in midfield just crap. I'm not going to criticise the front 2 as the service the got was non existant, the only time we put a decent cross into the box Carroll buried it,

if Cole misses out and Keiron Gibbs gets back fit i'd take him as back up to Bridge for the world cup.

just seen the goals, i'll put the first down to good play by them, they put over a beauty of a cross(maybe given too much room mind) that was asking to be put away, wtf was Jonas doing for the penalty, the lad is running out of the box, going absolutely nowhere and he just kicked the back of his leg, muppet. The 3rd just a half cleared corner, Hulse just hooked it back in but fell to a derby player unmarked to smashed it in.

will love it if Pompey turn over the mackems tonight, the mackems would be stewing on that defeat and there losing run for over a week before having to travel to the emirates to play Arsenal!!!

he's been injured since just after his last game in the first team when we got beat in the coca cola cup, think his injuries have held him back a bit this season, hopefully the loan move and regular football should help him.

couldn't agree more, although there is another group even worse than them, the ones who come in 5 mins after kick off, leave to get a half time pint 5 mins before HT, come back 5 mins into the 2nd half and then piss off before the end!!

wish i knew that before putting them in my accumalator, i need to sevilla to win to get it up, 20 mins left and not looking good!
