  1. Tbh I get the incredulity. I dunno if they're slagging off the decision, just understandably animated given the parallels with last night. Literally 24 hours later we've had a perfect example of the appalling inconsistency. It was the right call there but fucking hell it ain't half another kick in the nuts for us.
  2. Anyone coming back at this point gives us a huge lift but Barnes' return could be huge. We saw last night that Gordon can't just keep going and going and going forever; we have to take the pressure off him a bit. Plus it takes the load off Isak too, as Gordon could come on in a central position without leaving nothing at LW.

    Dogawful Officiating

It's pointless crowing about the abolition of VAR because it just isn't going to happen. However, if you're considering options to reduce its influence on the game (N.B. I'm putting my fingers in my ears re any murmurings about its influence increasing) - removing VAR's input on handball calls should be on the table. The problem with handball is that it was a complete mess of a rule before VAR, because any notion of 'deliberateness' had all but disappeared. Incidents like Henry vs Ireland or (to select an NUFC example) Jenas vs Arsenal happened once in a blue moon. That means most calls were considering the entirely subjective issues of unnatural positions and unfair advantages by virtue of the ball striking the arm. Decisions of that nature are entirely inappropriate for VAR to intervene in. I'd wager that, 99 times out of 100, it is obvious that a player has deliberately handballed it. If VAR must be used, have it flag-up those instances alone. But stuff like last night, and probably every single handball incident I've seen VAR intervene in, should just be left alone. It's the ref's call and that's that. Much like how being a toenail offside can happen (but ultimately have absolutely no bearing on the situation) - balls are going to nick off arms from time to time. The cross last night had already missed its target because it went straight into Tino's abdomen; there's no way that incident has unfairly denied a goalscoring opportunity. Just like being offside by an eyelash doesn't give an attacker an unfair advantage. This is the sort of tweaking any lobbyists should be calling for. Don't waste time calling for it to be removed altogether, it won't happen. It would be great if we could identify the instances where it is truly overzealous and try and eradicate that.
  4. Surely we'll have to rotate where we can for this one? Doesn't look like anyone's coming back but I'd happily see Krafth thrown in for Lascelles or Trippier for instance. Hall for Gordon maybe; AG is starting to look dead on his feet and, for me, was the one most visibly struggling to keep up with their pace and movement. He probably got away with a pen that would never have materialised as an incident had he kept up with his runner in the first place. Not slagging him, he understandably needs a rest.
  5. Hilarious how non-plussed he seemed during the CL anthem. Just fidgeting about, then I saw this Couldn't look less impressed. He clearly appears to just take everything in his stride; certainly doesn't look overawed or nervous. It's absolutely crackers that we had an academy lad starting that game. Was impressed with his performance too. His touch and passing isn't there yet, but off the ball he was terrific. So intelligent, composed, and his timing of tackles and blocks was perfect. Never once lost concentration or discipline or got lured into an early tackle. Seems a given that he'll be a star at this point.

    Match Atmosphere

What was the experience like of us scoring but you being with home fans?
  7. I'll probably flip between frustration and defiance for several days, but as I'm experiencing the latter emotion atm: it would make perfect sense for this NUFC to get the job done at St James' Park. We've had some brilliant and memorable away victories since Howe has come in but SJP really has that 'our house' vibe these days. That is where the magic really happens. Dortmund are no mugs and have proven a lot of doubters wrong this campaign; last night was a magnificent result for them. Tbh I've got enormous respect for that team and manager; from the neutral pov it's great to see a club like that really makes a splash in this group. And there's absolutely no guarantee that PSG go to their's and win; I wouldn't even make them favourites.
  8. If he makes a sub last night it is an absolute punt of the most finger-in-the-air variety. Don't blame him at all for sticking with the players who'd held out for 94 minutes (i.e. the entire game in any other season).
  9. It's difficult to call but on the basis of the first half, Miggy for me. On the basis of the whole game, I think you have to give it to Pope. But there's solid arguments for Livramento, Lascelles and Bruno.
  10. This is it. The only decision more of a disgrace than the penalty was the one to add on eight minutes. Absolutely no justification for it whatsoever, even with this season's daft protocol. Any other season we've already won before the handball incident happens.
  11. He was incredibly sharp in every single sense; in attack and in defence. Such a quick football brain. Dribbling - excellent; blocking - excellent; passing - so accurate. Absolute baller. Happy to backtrack on my comment from HT against Chelsea that we were missing Burn. I love BDB but we're definitely not missing him at this point.
  12. So sorry for your loss, that is unbeliebably awful. Love to you and the rest of your family.
  13. He's top tier podcast fart-sniffer along with wanks like Horncastle, Ornstein and Anka. Think they're God's gift to football and wit.
  14. It's an awful competition in a lot of ways. Never paid enough attention to it to know that stuff like this was one of the reasons.
  15. But he doesn't review it without VAR! Staggering decision making all round.
  16. Beat Milan and PSG don't win in Dortmund and we qualify. It could still happen.
  17. Stupid thing is the slow mo makes it more clear that it's not an infringement.
  18. Any other season we'd have had it fucking won before there was even the chance
