  3. Coloccini Thanks Newcastle Fans For Keeping Faith In Him The unlikely Newcastle United match-winner yesterday, Argentine Fabricio Coloccini has dedicated his first Newcastle goal to the Toon Army. The Argentine arrived back on Tyneside on Friday from International duty, and looked fresh yesterday, and he battled hard for his goal, which he dispatched brilliantly from Ryan Taylor’s inch perfect cross. That was the only goal of the match as Newcastle goto 16 points from their first 6 games. The rumors that it was actually Coloccini’s hair that had blocked the Cardiff City defender’s view of Taylor’s right wing cross are being played down on Tyneside, and Fabricio talked to Newcastle United TV today: “I was very happy to score my first goal and it was an important goal for the team.” “The first cross came in and I managed to get the ball back to Ryan Taylor.” “He then put in another good cross and I was able to get my header into the back of the net.” “I only got back into England on Friday so to play the full match, score the winner, and keep a clean sheet is perfect for me.” “We’ve not conceded for five games now which is fantastic – we feel very confident and long may it continue.” Former Deportivo star Coloccini has also taken time to thank Newcastle’s supporters for sticking with both himself personally and the team in general, during the summer months of more than significant turmoil on Tyneside: “A lot of things were written in the newspapers about me over the summer saying I wanted to leave the club,” ”But that was not true at all. I am happy here and happy to help the club get back into the Premier League.” “So because of that it was a great feeling to see my goal go in. “It was good to turn around and see the fans celebrating my goal.” ”I thank them for sticking by us and they have been excellent with me and the team.”
  4. Wouldn`t there still be some sort of fee that Man U are due..... in respect of compensation for `training and development costs`? Some sort of FA rule or something....
  5. Reading for 80m? Stump up a little bit more and buy us man! --- Reading may be the next club in line for a big-money takeover, with chairman John Madejski weighing up a £80m deal to sell the Championship club to a Middle Eastern consortium. Full story: The Sun
  6. How is that strange? He is a Canadian, he was born in Toronto & he was without a club until they signed him. Remember he played at DLC a football stadium where Xisco, Colo & Luque looked good as there ground creates optical phenomenons. he was player of the season the season before last, has played at a high level in Germany and Spain throughout his career. Fair enough if he had no other offers (which I would have found surprising), but at 28 years old he still has a good few years before he could have "retired" in the MLS IMO. Xisco, Colo and Luque? Well we`re a bit of a graveyard for many footballers arent we? not just from Deportivo.
  7. De Guzman just signed for 3 Years at Toronto FC....strange move
  8. the Paraguayan pre match cheerleaders .....mmmm http://msn.foxsports.com/id/10048020
  9. nope, that was misinformation, he denied it himself.
  10. Beardsley wants Chopra to return Newcastle United legend Peter Beardsley says the Magpies would love to bring Michael Chopra back to Tyneside. Chopra, 25, faces his boyhood club on Sunday when the ex-Premier League giants travel to Cardiff. And ex-striker Beardsley, who coached Chopra at Newcastle's youth academy, believes the striker still dreams of a return to St James' Park. "I think that's still Michael's dream - to wear the number nine shirt for Newcastle," said the ex-England star. Chopra came through the trainee ranks at Newcastle, but struggled to emerge from the shadow of legendary striker Alan Shearer. He scored just one goal in 21 league appearances for the Magpies before being sold to Cardiff in 2006. But Beardsley believes Chopra, who was one of few players to cross the Tyne-Wear divide when he left Cardiff for Sunderland for £5m in 2007, before returning to south Wales, craves a second chance at his hometown club. "For me, it wasn't the right choice for us to sell him in the first place," Beardsley told the BBC's Sport Wales programme. "Michael should've stayed here and developed and then he would never have gone to Sunderland and he might be in our first team now. He is the type of player we could do with now. "Michael still lives here [Newcastle], he's still got family here. Obviously he's in Cardiff when he's playing football, but he comes up here whenever it's possible. He's still black and white. "As Newcastle Academy staff, we would love to have him back here." Beardsley rates Chopra as one of Newcastle's best academy products, the striker having been snapped up by the Magpies when he was only nine-years-old. I've worked with a lot of academy kids and, in terms of attitude and ability, Michael was the best Michael Chopra "I first got to know Michael as a 15-year-old who was on Newcastle's books and about to become apprentice," said Beardsley, who scored more than 100 league goals for the club in two spells at St James' Park. "I've worked with a lot of academy kids and, in terms of attitude and ability, Michael was the best. "I'd say 90 per cent of where Michael is today is down to himself. His attitude and enthusiasm. That's something you can't give people. I can't speak highly enough of him." Chopra has made a stunning start to the season after Cardiff paid £4m to make his loan move from Sunderland permanent in the summer. And Beardsley expects him to continue the form which has seen him net eight goals in the first seven games of the season. "No disrespect to Michael - and I've spoken to him about this before - he may not be a top Premier League player but he is a brilliant Championship player," Beardsley said. "It's no surprise to me that he's scoring goals and he'll be a threat to Newcastle on Sunday." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/c/cardiff_city/8249642.stm

  21. Have you seen his neck though! http://beefbagel.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/11/maierhofer.jpg Wtf, his neck is longer than his head.. I thought it was photoshopped at first
  22. absolute hogwash of the highest order. if you sign a contract you stick to it if you expect the other to stick to their side. lets say he was s***, would he have admitted it and said, "nah sorry newcastle, i've been s***, you shou;ld be well within your rights to slash my pay"...but no it doesn't work that way. the club have to pay him as per contract regardless of performance...he shouls fulfill his side of the contract likewise. So what would you like him to have done then. fulfill his contract and if he doesn't like it go through the official channels with a written transfer request. Signs for a foreign club with the prospect of playing Champions League Football (that's what they told Enrique at least), a decent Spanish Under 21 International, turns up and the manager is wondering why one of the ball boys is wearing a training kit. He got shafted from the word go. It cannot be assumed he's a slacker, he's good enough to play for his country at U21 but not at relegated Newcastle. The fact the top brass were trying to flog every one of our squad and he didn't go obviously tells you that no-one wanted him back after his year out. It would have been safe to assume on his part that a Spanish side would come in for him. No-one did and he thought his career was over. Don't know why people are being so harsh on him. It'd be far worse if he insisted on rotting in the reserves. he shouldn't be insisting on the reserves . he should be doing his all to get a regular place or putting in a transfer request. if players want clubs to uphold their side of contracts then they have to do likewise. sooner or later players will be in for a shock when a club "does" a player over it. Look I'm not here to score points in a petty forum squabble, but you cannot assume that he wasn't doing just that. IF he wasn't then I'm sure he'd be sent packing by whoever was running the club/team at the time last January, let alone this transfer window. agreed. He was never ever going to get a chance anyway no matter what it seemed. Bit strange the comments though in the context that he said all the right things before about fighting for his place etc all last season since being frozen out by everyone. I do reckon there was more to it such as appearance clauses.
  23. Cameroon international Modeste MBami who left Marseille recently is on a free Wigan supposedly interested in him
