Juan for the Toon By STEVE BRENNER NEWCASTLE are set to make a transfer window swoop in January for Fiorentina’s Peruvian midfielder Juan Vargas. The 25-year-old ace is rated at around £8million but has failed to settle in Serie A. And he would be available on loan with a view to a permanent switch in the summer. Director of football Dennis Wise jetted to Italy last weekend only to find Vargas was crocked. But Toon gaffer Joe Kinnear has already seen and heard enough to want to bring him over to St James’ Park. Vargas can play at left-back, left wing or in central midfield — and would instill some much needed creativity into the struggling Toon. Good work Dennis!

They don't get on anyway, didn't Ashley stitch him up for fixing the price of replica shirts or something along those lines?
-
Totally agree, which is why the likes of Jermaine Jenas are always selected to the surprise of some, because he is a 'great' athlete.
-
Three months out, brings us pretty close to the next transfer window, might not see him in a Toon shirt again.
-
If, and it's a huge IF, does Terry Mac return too?
-
He obviously rates him higher than Stephen Warnock Which in my opinion he would be right to do.

Always disliked him. Waste of skin.

Ignacio María González signed from Valencia on year-long loan deal

They actually have quite a strict wage structure, which they have only recently broken to provide new deals to keep Villa & Silva. the main problem with their debt is that they laid out a massive amount for new land and the development of a new stadium, and then didn't manage to sell the land they own for anywhere near what they thought it was worth. Oh totally agree the New stadium The Callederon or something isn't it? Had a massive impact on finances, but I think they were guilty of spending what they didnt have at times, people like Joaquin, they have often had rather large squads, and have generally wasted money. But you make a spot on point that the new Stadium devlopment or lack of funds they received for the old ground contributed hugely to the 260m Euro debt. The very imaginatively named 'Nou Mestalla' with a 75,000 capacity in time for the start of next season. You are right about the large squads, with loads of average players being loaned out all over Europe and Valencia having to make significant contributions to their wages. -

Exactly the same thought crossed my mind. Imagine O'Dreary chewing Ashley's ear about how he could work wonders with the young squad! -

The mail have updated their story and say he will be sacked today. -
The old KK would have walked. An ITK on Skunkers reckons he has.

He is nowhere near world class, he has pace, his crossing is hit and miss, and sometimes he seems unable to control a football, but he works hard, tracks back, puts in a few tackles & doesn't complain and seems like a good lad who would be a good fit in the dressing room. I think his best displays for Chelsea came when he played a more central role towards the end of last season, which could be an option for us. I'm by no means a big fan of him, but if he can reproduce the form he displayed under Keegan at City then that would only be a positive thing. Once he has a manager that believes in him, and his confidence is back up, could be good again.
-
Would love to sign him He is quality, could be much more than just a defensive midfielder, good going forward too.

Don't care who gets it, as long as it's not that prick! Which, no doubt it will be.

Fabricio Coloccini signed from Deportivo La Coruña on 5 year deal

His start was a bit shaky, but that was to be expected. Liked the fact that he wouldn't let his man go beyond him, even if that meant bringing him down, better to defend the free kick than let the striker through on goal. And, also thought he looked to be the leader we badly need at the back, despite the probable language barrier, he was telling the other three where to go/position themselves, and this is exactly what Taylor needs to take him to the next level. -
Rio Ferdinand, hate the way he is always the first person to join the goal celebration, always fist pumping to the fans, kissing the badge, and if it gets a bit heated how he always races to wherever it it, and how over rated he is, yes he is talented, but he isn't the second coming of Bobby Moore! C**T!

I remember a while back, when Claudio Ranieri began his second stint in charge of Valencia, he was interviewed, and was asked about the possibility pf Aimar joining Liverpool, for then a huge fee, and he said that with Aimar weighing under 60 kilos, he would stand no chance of competing in the Premiership, so as good as he was/is/could be, perhaps he is far better of in Portugal away from the rough and tumble of the Premiership.

Tell you you who I would love at the club, and who might want to leave his. Your namesake. I would drive him here from Spain if he was to join us! Sadly, he has really struggled with injury for two seasons, and doubts remain as to whether we see him at anywhere near his best or the form he was showing prior to those injuries. Perhaps a new club might be just what he needs, although he remains a very popular figure amongst the fans.
