At the end of season review I imagine he'd have been told about their plans to bring someone in over his head but when he finds out it's this silly cunt, he'll jack. Seemed to fall properly out of favour towards the end of last season. Good luck to the guy. As has been said, generally a model pro and has not disgraced himself. Hope the move goes well for him.

Agree there is something not right there. Last season he seemed so happy in games whereas this season, he has played with a scowl right from the start. I would love to know the reasons why because he was very enthusiastic about NUFC last year. I thought it was strange that he was was seemingly disappointed with not getting the Spurs move because in his first season we were right up there with them until the end and they just got the Europa Cup like us. Injuries, depression, the team's poor form have obviously contributed this season but I wonder if there has been a realisation that whatever vision he was sold is not the reality nor is it likely to be. However, from reading his website and the comments from his friends which he must have approved, I have always thought we were a means to gain a move to a bigger club and he does seem ambitious which NUFC are certainly not.

He's not been in the right headspace all season for one reason or another. I thought signing his bum-buddy would've postively impacted his performances and general demeanour but it's not made a blind bit of difference. There's been a falling out somewhere in my John Humble.

It's whether he's allowed to. Does he have free reign to alter coaching teams/recruit, hire/fire considering the financial implications?

He'll certainly be getting the start of next season. I'd imagine he'll have until Xmas to show an improvement. It's what defines an improvement I'm interested in. For most fans it's probably safe to say, progress in terms of playing style would be recognised as an improvement especially if positive results coincide. But for Ashley/Dekka, I think their view of an improvement would be purely down to finishing position/points on the board. I don't see a time when they would turn around and demand changes to a more scintillating form of football or a more attacking/front foot style of play. In my mind, I can only see him walking if we're bottom 3 or 4 by Xmas and there's been no obvious improvment in terms of points in the bag. By that definition, I think we should prepare ourselves for the long term, as anybody (and I include Pardew in that) could improve upon this seasons results. Reasons being a full summer break for the likes of Cabaye, a more settled Debuchy/MYM and Cisse playing through the middle from the off. When you couple that with no Europa "distraction" and "more time to be prepare" then we're almost guaranteed to have a better first half of the season. It's be hard to be worse. This is without mentioning the transfer situation and AP bringing in a couple of lumps to suit his style. It may not end up being pretty but it would make us more effective, increasing the chances of positive results.

You wouldn't think so. The atmosphere last night was quite a positive one. They vented towards McClean for his usual stupid decisions, but with Di Canio around they always find something to cheer about and get behind. It's the kind of atmosphere ultimately needed at SJP in a weeks time. For all Stoke City were turgid last night, the fans played a large part in carrying them into getting that draw and giving the players just a shot of adrenaline when needed. I'm aware of the cliché '12th man' idea, but we've seen enough players reference the influence of a crowd. They're all pulling together on this one and it's going to be a test for Southampton on Sunday. Agree with your point on the crowd/general Mackem vibe at the minute Nixon. They're still surfing the Di Canio Wave at the minute. Next season will be different though. And I still think Southampton will have too much for them.
