  1. Danny Guthrie? No goals and no assists! Oooh yes please. Steinsson and Cahill are both cracking players imo and would be good acquisitions. Only those two from the three relegated teams would be worth a punt. Totally agree with that. Steinson really gets up and down the flank well and has an excellent cross on him. For anything less than £3m I'd take him as competition for Beye. Cahill looks like he could settle well next to an established centre half too.
  2. Modric = exactly the type of player we need. If we do buy someone of that ilk though we'd have to invest in a strong dm as Butt wouldn't have the assistance he can rely on at the minute (from Barton and/or Geremi). Someone like Diarra would've been ideal.
  3. I think it's a permanent signing but was a loan initially to get around the transfer deadline. They needed more time to fill in the full transfer paperwork etc. iirc.
  4. Given this thread is about realistic targets, how about these to improve our squad for next season?;- Steinsson (Bolton) - I've been really impressed with him since he went there. He'll not hang around if they go down surely? Great alernative to Habib. McCartney (West Ham) - George, not Paul, has looked very steady for West Ham. I think he'd be a good reserve for Enrique. Both get forward and help out there wingers, and have decent crossing ability. Can't imagine either would cost over £2.5m. Arshavin - I'd still like to see more of him, but from what I have seen so far, he looks like he could do a job on the left side of a 4-3-3 forward line or maybe even just as a LCM. Bendtner - If we could nab him off Arsene I think he'd be worth shelling out for. I'd take a punt at anything upto £7m to be honest. He'd be my preference to Crouch, who will come to either our place or Man City in the close season imo.
  5. Gone for the following today:- Arsenal Crystal Palace Stoke £20 trixie @ 7/1 for the treble Stoke to beat Sheff Weds £20 @ 11/8. C'mon Shola.
  6. Didn't he go down with Brum or did I dream that?
  7. Yeah - I thought of him but I'm sure the big lugged frigger kept goal under Keegan or Sven.
  8. £5m, or maybe even £4.5m. Dawson was £5m for Spurs, right? How much did Jay Bothroyd cost when he went to Italy? I think Dawson went in a joint deal with Andy Reid so difficult to say how much his part of the transfer was worth but I don't think it was even close to £7m. Jay Bothroyd was only a couple of million I think. Good idea though. Starting to agree with Baggio, can only really see 5 definites here.
  9. Just occurred to me....... What about Titus? Or was he £6m?
  10. Couple of caps I think, sure he played against Japan one year at Wembley. Yeah - sure he played on a couple of occasions.
  11. So thats............ Cort Reo-Coker Davies Ashton Richards So far
  12. Oh well, down to five then. Hmmmmmm
  13. Not sure mate. If so, I'll take him off the list.
  14. So thats............ Cort Jeffers Reo-Coker Davies Ashton Richards Any idea on number 7?
  15. players, signed for £7m (or more) by a Premiership club never to win an England cap? Heard this question asked on the radio the other day but was out of the car when the answers were named. First couple I thought of were; Carl Cort Francis Jeffers Can anyone help me out with the rest? Apologies if this has been done before.

    Alan Smith

Because a dog couldn't win a pen in the last minute of a game nor could it draw in 3 opposition defenders to give Viduka space? Only a guess like................... Draw in 3 defenders?! He fucking fell over man! mackems.gif The defender then tried to clear it but Viduka took it off his boot and placed it in the bottom corner, you're either clutching at straws to convince yourself he's any good or you're completely fucking clueless, judging from your comment on how you would have Butt, Milner and Smith over Laurent Robert every day of the week pushes towards the latter. It's people like you that bum the dross like Smith, Milner, Butt, Taylor etc because they give 100% and get stuck in yet go home scratching your head as to the reason why we're so fucking shit, you just don't get it do you? These players are not good enough if we've got any sort of ambition as a club and would struggle to get in the teams that are challenging for the Uefa cup let alone the top 4. Clueless. Good Evening Mr Negative, You know what? I'd take Jimmy Milner over Robert EVERY day of the week. I'd take him over Gillespie too. Thats the thing about a football forum, it's about opinions and people being prepared to say what they think. The difference between you and I, is that I'm positive and constructive not a negative, whinging bastard happy to slag off any of our players at every single opportunity. Grow up you miserable little twat.
  18. Merry Christmas to all. Cheers for the debates NE5 et al. Hope there are plenty more in 2008.
  19. Shay Given of previous seasons was better than this seasons. 2 shots on target yesterday = 2 goals was yesterday damming stat. I would've fancied him to save it, I'm not going to lie. The shot should never have got to him mind, but thats a different debate. In his defence he's only played 10 games this season and was out for lengthy spells last year. Like I've said earlier in this thread, we've been lucky to have him over the last 10 years and we shouldn't be too quick to forget what he's brought to the club imo. He's the least of our problems when compared to the other areas of the pitch.
  20. Disagree with that Chez. I'll still think he's got another couple of seasons at his peak.
