He’s such an excellent shithouse as well as an excellent player. His tormenting of keepers seems to be a tactic to force teams to play it short so we can press high.
-
His finishing isn’t he strength, but he could have had 4/5 goals this season has been very unlucky. Chuffed for him yesterday and in front of Tite too.

Southampton vs. Newcastle United - 6/11/22 @ 2pm (Sky Sports)

As I say every week I feel that every game will be tough in its own way and I don’t like predicting scores. All I know is that the team will go out with a plan and try and win the game and that’s all that I can ask for. Eddie Howes Newcastle United. You’ve got to love it. -
Another high IQ moment was when one of our players went down (shoved into the the boards) he sprinted over to block the medical staff from approaching indicating to let him check first. Miggy (I think?) was fine and it meant that he didn’t need to leave the pitch on the restart.

Wilson mentioned that they scored vs Villa with the same corner routine some years ago. Managed to track it down.

The newspaper’s attempts to engineer a move getting tiresome now. Barca the latest link. They’ll need to pull every financial lever they don’t have to afford a single one of his boots man.
-
He was a pure vanity purchase that was done for no reason but to show what a big pull Gerrard was.

Do people actually watch these things in real time? The only conceivable was they exist in my head is to provide others teams laughs when they lose. -
Newcastle United vs. Aston Villa - 29/10/22 @ 3:00pm (No UK TV)

I think if they get carried away with that last result and try and be too attacking they will play to our strengths. Will be a tough game though. -
I feel that we are quite canny with it. The players going down injured at certain point for drinks and tactics breaks. Also defending as a team mean the load is more even shared across all the players. The WC break could be a godsend mind

It was made worse by the fact we were staying down there to see Faithless so had to walk back though Birmingham in our toon tops. Lots of abuse all the way back to the hotel. Had a mint night after that but, yeah, fuck the Villa -

On the Villa/Newcastle rivalry, I was in the away end there when we went down. I wish them every misfortune as a football club. Brummie is sound though -

Villa are a miles bigger club than Villareal regardless of league position. You could fit nearly the entire population of the place inside Villa Park. Villareal are a well run and well funded side that have consistently punched above their weight. I’d argue their relatively smaller size has helped them do that. -

He is obviously head and shoulders ahead of Gerrard as a coach and definitely a much better appointment, but to play devils advocate for a few moments; - doesn’t tend to last over 3 years at anyone club and tends to leave before his contract expires, although was sacked at Arsenal - he’s a more pragmatic coach than attacking one a big complaint from Arsenal fans was a real lack of a defined playing style - he’s good at setting up teams for matches against bigger opposition as evidenced in some of his results with Villarreal in the CL, however he can struggle when it’s on him to dictate the game - there is going to be a lot of pressure from the outset, these owners already got one marquee appointment wrong a second could be fatal for them. - The pressure and exposure at Villarreal is far below what will be expected of him at Villa, although he’s been a plenty big clubs earlier in his career. He will improve Villa, there’s no doubt in that but could be a rather expensive medium term appointment and may not take them as far as their ambitions lie. -

Emery is great at devising game plans for the opposition, esp against bigger teams. Struggles a little when his teams are expected to take the initiative. Good appointment for Villa, wonder if he’ll be in for Saturday. -

Luke Edwards on the BBC football podcast some how managed to drop Brucie into a chat about Leeds. Met him for coffee and Steve told him that Bielsa was the manager he was most in awe of.
