  1. How can officiating be this bad with VAR? How?

    Missed you mate.

The source is very solid in terms of their integrity. I’m just not sure how they’d know. Connections to the club sure but I just thought it would be flying around everywhere by now if true (I’m not on any social media).

Anyone else heard this rumour flying around about us definitely moving?
  5. I get what you’re saying but surely 7th means the project has significantly stalled / gone backwards? The owner said 12 months ago he expected us to be in the top 4.

    Alan Shearer

There’s nothing to argue. I just said he was probably the fourth best striker in the league at that point. There’s nothing to support him getting into any line up and certainly not Man U’s because the only interest came from Liverpool a season later - Bobby was willing to sell and the chairman said no.

And the season he turned 32 he was 6th on the scorers list with 17. I still think he was probably the fourth best striker in the league at that point but walking into any line up? That’s fanboy stuff.

Sheringham didn’t play as a striker. Certainly not in Shearer’s sense. He certainly doesn’t start ahead of RvN from 2001/02 onwards. He was still a very formidable striker but a long way past his Blackburn best.

    Alan Shearer

Really not sure how that’s a valid comparison as you’d struggle to find two more different forwards. There were simply much better strikers out there than Shearer at that point in his career and they carried no one.

    Alan Shearer

Potentially, yeah. He had a very good deal with us post 30 though. Excellent supply lines, a partner doing his running, played every minute when fit and obviously a very shrewd manager focused on getting the best out of his twilight years - till Souness came along when he was 34, at least.

I really don’t think that’s true. At Man U For example he certainly wouldn’t have been starting beyond the age of 31 like he did for us until almost 36.
  12. I wasn’t, they’re terrible. How they took 4 (almost 6) points off us last season I’ll never know. Putrid one dimensional team.

Trippier was brilliantly offensively for the first part of the season especially but defensively I think he’s been on the decline for a while and that’s only going one way.

I love his attitude too, he’s as hard working a player as I’ve ever seen for us but I get why people desperately want him replaced because his output is diabolical.
  15. It looked just about gone in the second half of last season when he actually managed to play.
  16. Very fortunate to going to a Championship team. They’re mental, tbh. Wish him the best.

What exactly was exciting about Anderson? As others have said, 50 plus games without ever having much of impact, no goals and nothing blatantly in his locker to scare anyone. Lewis Hall is a more exciting prospect and he’s younger and a defender.
  18. We were terrible under Allardyce in large part but nothing compared to Carver. We will never seen anything again like those performances under Carver.
  19. Alan Smith when Hughton kept playing him the Championship and even a few games into the next season before Tiote replaced him. Take your pick, there’s dozens of insipid displays. Blackpool at home Sep 2010 (with Tiote daftly left on the bench) stands out.
  20. He was appalling In every sense. Surely you’re confusing him with someone else?
  21. The Arsenal 4-4 he was brilliant. Led the line brilliantly, scored 2 (legit) goals and was so clever on the ball. I think at the beginning of 11-12 when he scored a brace against Fulham then one against Villa following game I called him one of our most important players. Partially because I tended to go over the top a lot back then but mostly because he deserved it.
  22. Not forgotten I wouldn’t say. Had some games where he was unplayable.
