Or he’s just poor because he’s a dinosaur of a striker. His limited skill set will only ever look half decent in a restive, cynical and direct setup. I’m not sure why proponents of playing modern football on here and elsewhere have given him a free pass for so long.

It’s just a bit bizarre. £100m to spend, your only PL standard striker is made of glass and we buy Chris Wood for a ludicrous fee. I hope Howe realises what a daft mistake that was.

I’d rather we signed a PL standard striker in January. But yes, I’d probably have more confidence in Gayle getting goals and stretching teams than Wood. Neither are fit for purpose, obviously.

The only things I’ve genuinely question is why Wood is still starting and Shelvey is preferred to Guimaraes.

Nothing we don’t know. We have a lot of players in this side that are lower third of the premier league at best. Majority of them, to be honest.

Let’s hope we never have to see that. Winning aimless headers and throwing himself around a bit off the ball is all well and good, and I appreciate he’s doing his best. For me, a striker should score / create goals and stretch defences. Or ideally 1 of the 3.

Not going to be too critical of him. He’s improved us hugely. Not identifying the need to remedy the problems up front is a black mark however. He must see that now, even from the games we were winning. No excuse for not making that our top priority in the summer.

Not a massive Wilson fan but he’s levels above the alternatives. We need to spend a massive chunk of our ‘budget’ on 2 strikers this summer.

Bit of a blind spot on here when it comes to Wood. He’s basically a poor excuse for a striker who has found himself insulated from criticism because those around him have been brilliant and the focus has been taken off his lack of pace, ability and goal threat. I don’t want to be too critical because he’s just doing his best, by my word he should be in the group of players totally surplus come summer.

Each to their own but Lascelles has only ever looked a comfortable defender with us in the Championship. Under Rafa he was passable but a lot of that was due to our shape. He’s been an accident waiting to happen for a while now, and a diabolical club captain.

He’s been superb. Really impressed so far.
