Boro have produced some decent players in the recent past tbf.. Their academy players regularly manage to graduate to the first team, so somebody is doing a good work there. But the mackems? They'd always brag about how much better their Academy is but they haven't actually produced anybody. Colback seems reliable but nothing special; Henderson, his suspect qualities aside, he has no shoulders ffs! The NE Academy Top Dawgs could've surely given him a better fitness schedule during all those years he spent there. And who else is there.. fucking David Meyler.. aye, well done Sunderland.. state of the art stuff.

There are concerns over the strikers' partnership. Don't want to be too harsh but I feel in most games, we'd be better as a team if only one of Cisse/Ba plays. While Ba can be useful in more deeper roles, his best performances for us and West Ham have come in the poacher role. Still, I'm happy with our squad depth even if we don't bring more new players, as long as Marveaux and Stevie Taylor stay fit.

Papiss seems very compacent

Bigi had a brilliant game. Especially in the first half, it was like Cheick was playing. Aside from his assured passing, I'm encouraged by his defensive work rate and positional awareness too. Early days obviously but he looks like he can be relied upon even this season.

I wouldn't be against bringing Williams instead of Douglas. The former seems like the more exciting option (not that I've seen him play), but it doesn't sound like he's the right kind of personality to succeed here. He'd also need to adapt to the Premier League, learn the language etc.. Those things matter more in positions like CB/GK where communication and mentality is important. I'm sure Pardew would prefer somebody with Premier League experience. I'm slightly worried about Taylor though. Pardew really should take his time on him. I've heard that torn achilles is one of the most serious injuries in sports, in terms of how it affects mobility and speed permanently.. and Taylor is prone to other injuries. It sounds like the staff are taking good care of him though so hopefully he manages to leave all this behind him next season. He's a good lad and he deserves it.
