Spent some time reading smb and I have to admit I totally misinterpreted the (non-) event that was the game on Sunday.. Let's face it - we were outclassed that day.. We may have scored 5 goals but that's down to pure luck and ref mistakes. It was evident their defence, led by the calming influence of Bramble and CATTS, is such a solid unit that I struggle to see how they'll concede any more goals this season.. and despite the scoreline, they played some breath-taking flowing football, which is a testament to Bruce's tactics and the wonderful squad he has assembled. Man-for-man, only Ben Arfa would have a chance to get into their extended squad of 134 players.. We can only dream of having players.. no, not players.. MAGICIANS like CATTS, ELMO, BRAMBS and BARDS. I fear they're in for an amazing season under BRUCIE, while our ugly, route-one football will probably see us relegated again. But most of all, I dread the game at the Stadium of Light - because there can only be one winner there - THE TRUE TOP DAWGS OF THE NE - SUNDERLAND AFC - the club we all secretly wish we supported.

Those who appear to have already made their mind re:Hughton are blatantly missing the bigger picture here.. Who do you think Ashley will replace him with? Massive compensation and contract for David Moyes? or Martin Jol? Or is it more likely we'll end up with some past-it geezer like Terry Venables or Glenn Hoddle.. to 'steady the ship' with their experience.. I'm not impressed with Hughton's tactics either but it's far too early to get on his back..

The players can be as determined as they like, but if they can't win home games they are not good enough - determination is great but without the necessary skills it is useless. Cream always rises to the top.... Yeah, but that would be a criticism of the players... Hughton can only work the players he has. There's no denying his tactics were a bit too conservative in the last couple home games, although iirc we ended up the Blackpool game with 5 strikers.. I have confidence that Hughton will sort the 'home tactic' but even if we lose the next 2-3-4-whatever games, the positives of his tenure far outweigh the negatives. Hughton is the right man for our club.
