This. Why would Ashley have to appoint the new guy before the takeover could be completed? That's just ridiculous, and Hughton was on peanuts with only 6 months of his contract to run.

I don't think it's a contradiction. Ashley appointed Hughton because he was the cheap option, which people didn't approve of. But Ashley got lucky in that he accidentally appointed someone with some competence and dignity who the fans have ultimately taken to.

Kerry Katona. Nothing to do with her potential managerial abilities, I just don't think we should give people like her money to waste on drugs.

Well that's the decision Ashley currently has on his plate, and I've staked £25 of my own money on Betfair that he chooses the wrong one. Expecting Mike Ashley to make a correct decision is about as likely to achieve a happy ending as playing Russian roulette with a fully loaded gun.

We'll get Pardew and it'll be Hughton to Ajax. Jol's leaving is just to make way for Chris.

Jol would be infinitely better than Pardew. Don't trust Fat Mike to make a decent appointment though so I still reckon it'll be Pardew. Might stick a few quid on him now Jol's odds-on favourite. Get much better odds now.

Newcastle certainly can attract a decent manager. Problem is, Ashley's too much of a cheapskate to pay the required money for one, and he's too much of an imbecile to identify one.

I've been exiled to Bournemouth, and a Southampton supporting mate who's a season ticket holder there says he was gutted when Pardew left, really rates him and thinks he's a terrific manager. Just thought I'd put another viewpoint out there.

I'm going to wait and see who we appoint before I get too annoyed, but unless it's a Mourinho-esque appointment I'll be pretty devastated. And we all know it won't be, it'll be Alan Fucking Pardew. Really liked Hughton, sure he got things wrong but he was doing OK.
