  1. Do people not think that players have internet access? They're on OK-ish money you know, most of them can probably afford an entry-level PC. Chances are they all read what fans write about them, I wouldn't be in the least surprised if most of them lurk on this and/or other forums. You'd have to have a massive amount of willpower not to. How would you feel if you were Enrique, and had to read all the shite that's been posted here? Would that make you want to stay? I'm not suggesting that players should be beyond criticism, hell no. But Jose has done absolutely nothing wrong here yet some seem determined to drive one of our best players out. Fucking bonkers. I'm convinced that if some of you had guns, you'd spend all day sitting in your houses repeatedly shooting yourself in the foot.
  2. This "not giving 100%" stuff has to stop, there's absolutely no basis for it whatsoever. He's had some tremendous games recently, made some great forward runs and been one of our best players of late. You're all completely off your tits. No wonder good players leave, there's some absolute fucktards around who are determined to run people out of town at the slightest hint of anything bad. Have a word.
  3. We've barely created any chances to take. Though we're down to the bare bones of our squad.
  4. Solano and Beckham both lacked pace, but seemed to carve out reasonable top-flight careers. Know nothing about Snodgrass's ability mind, just saying lack of pace need not be a barrier to being a good winger.

    Danny Guthrie

That's fairly ridiculous. I don't think he's good enough, but he's better than nobody. I think loaning him out when we're so short on cover is extremely risky, but long term I don't think he should be anywhere near the first team. There's no fundamental dichotomy there, both points are valid. Given a couple more injuries I'd rather have a Championship level player in the midfield than someone who's coming through the youth ranks and is possibly only conference-level at the moment.

    Hatem Ben Arfa

  7. Screamed like a madman when Ranger stuck that header away. Right decision from the linesman though, but just so wish he'd made the wrong call and let it stand.
  8. At least Ben Arfa seems to be enjoying the game http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/7819/arfa.jpg
  9. Worrying about what will happen in the summer at NUFC with CrAzY Mike & Del Boy running the gaff is not unreasonable imo. Ashley has fucked up, massively, and isn't popular. Sure. I get it. But he's poured millions of his own money in whereas Sheppard took millions out through every scam he could find and ran the club into the ground. I know who I'd rather have in charge of the club. Yet Ashely is seen as a massive villain. But he's only guilty of incompetence, not malice, though you'd never believe it reading people's comments on here. And even though I'm not really mounting a stern defence of him or denying his flaws, I'll probably now get shot down in flames as some kind of Ashley apologist, such is everyone's need to express their hatred of him constantly. Everyone sees him as a money grabber but he's done exactly the opposite since arriving. Nearly every other club in the land has to break even or they go to the wall, but we run at a loss year after year, the chairman absorbs it and then the fans get outraged and call him a cunt.
  10. Some of you are just ridiculous, still whining that Tiote might be off in the summer. The guy's just signed a 6.5 year contract FFS. Of course anything's possible, but do you people get up in the mornings and worry that the sun's going to explode? Or that you're going to get hit by a metiorite? Or that Sunderland will become a nice, attractive place to live? Sorry, went a bit far with that last comment, that's just utterly bonkers.
  11. Fantastic news. Those comparing Tiote getting a new deal to Carroll asking for a new one are missing a fairly important point. Carroll had about 5 years left on his current contract - All he wanted was a payrise. Tiote will only have had 2.5 years left come the summer. This deal is more about extending the length of the contract than it is about rewarding the player with a payrise. But of course if you're going to ask someone to stay for twice as long then you've got to offer them an incentive, which we have quite rightly done by increasing his wages.
  12. V Portsmouth at home, 1992. Goals from Quinn (2) and Kelly iirc, with Portsmouth getting one from Guy Whittingham.
  13. For me there's 3 answers to this question: 1900s - Technically the correct answer 1950s - Most recent time we were actually winning things that people are still alive to remember 1990s - The most recent time that I actually remember
  14. I'd say Enrique's a better player than Carroll. £50m and they've got a deal, any less and they can go fuck themselves.

    FA Cup revamp

Completely and utterly against seeding. Horrible idea.
  16. Milner was never, ever, an excellent sale. He provided genuine width and always, to me at least, looked to be a very good player and IMO if we'd kept him we'd have stayed up for sure. So how selling him was 'excellent' is utterly beyond me.
  17. Was tremendous today. Him, Barton, Tiote, Ben Arfa and Coloccini could form the spine of a tremendous team if we invest properly in the summer. We simply have to convince him to stay.
  18. This. We seem to do well against the big clubs then just disappear against the mediocre / dross teams. Sadly nothing would surprise me less than if we just failed to show up today.

    Leon Best

I have no real problem with Best. Yeah, he went a good few games without a goal, but that happens to even the best strikers in the world. Sure I remember Shearer being on a run a few times where he'd been 10 or so games without a goal, it just happens to forwards. Not saying he's Shearer-esque of course, but he's not as bad as some make out. He looks crap in the air, but he's got a good technique on the ground, good touch and a good shot. Confident he can see us safely through to the end of the season and should bang a few in. I'd certainly start him ahead of Lovenkrands and Ranger. Though as we're decimated by injuries and it's 2 up top I'd go with Best and Ranger.
  20. I infinitely prefer Smith as a human being and someone who tries hard and gives his all, but he still represents much worse value than Owen. We got something for our massive outlay on Owen, we've had nothing at all from our large outlay on Smith. Can't pass, shoot, tackle, dribble or score. At least Owen, as cretinous as he is and as pathetically as he behaved, knocked a few goals in and had a few decent games.

    Laurent Robert

Can we not get Rush and Barnes back as well? FFS.
  22. Ridiculous. If we've signed him because we're too tight to give Ewerthon a decent deal then all concerned need a good fucking slap.
  23. Chris_R

    Ewerthon

We probably offered a contract until the end of the season on £10k/week or something. Poor guy can't accept or decline it as he probably hasn't stopped laughing yet.

    Best High?

In the following order for me: 5-1: 90 minutes of pure joy. That is all. 4-4: 1 moment of the greatest ecstasy I've ever experienced. And that includes my honeymoon. 6-0: We owed Villa that one and it really announced we were back. A resounding thumping. 1-0 v Arsenal: Was watching it in a pub full of Arsenal fans. Ran up to the screen and went mental, the rest of the pub fell silent. Was just awesome after that, the feeling of smugness as we casually bossed them off the park for the rest of the game. They got quieter and I got louder and more drunk as the game went on. Ben Arfa V Everton: Showed us what a special player he is. Best hattrick: Really thought we'd struggle in that game, but we spanked them. Chelsea 3-4: Not their strongest team, and we got knocked out next round. But it was good fun and a very enjoyable game
  25. If it's a "money no object, name your price" inquiry then we should ask for £500m.
