  1. There was a vitriol in the ground in those days at games like that that largely dissipated later on under Ashley as standards dropped.
  2. would far rather take those injustices/errors than have great moments dampened by hesitation and uncertainty.
  3. So many old goals I look back and realize how much shitter they'd be now with VAR. The ones that'd be ruled out but also those that are narrowly offside that you wouldn't really know til had been confirmed after check (was just thinking it with the mackem 5-1. Nolan's second you'd be worried about offside and it'd have been checked, his third a mackem player went down - it was nothing but you wouldn't know that in the ground. Chopra's too would definitely have been checked and that primal celebration had some hesitation.
  4. I've been watching the celebration for the first goal - massive pile on - over and over. The players and fans are really so jubilant, it's too much really for being 1-0 up in the first half But it's so good. I guess have to remember the context of being recently promoted too. That team led by Hughton were really likeable for a while. And the feeling in the stadium that day was really quite unique. There've been better wins, but being among 50k geordies just in disbelief that we're scoring goal after goal against the mackems was something else.
  5. Sometimes had a manager that made us tuck it in. Always had it out given the choice. Thought looked dorkish tucked in. Would roll my sleeves up too on this long sleeve shirts most kids kits were, especially on a cold day, to look like I was up for it. Especially if I was up against a player with their hands tucked inside their sleeves looking like they didn't want to be there. I must've looked dead hard, I was as skinny and short as anything.
  6. Christ, imagine telling us that day we'd replace Rafa Benitez with Bruce
  7. I know one of the people who set up the anti-sportswashing group and he's a proper Newcastle fan. I don't know how involved he still is tbh, but I believe he actually set up the twitter account. (not John Hird)
  8. I don't know, honestly. I get the wanting to be above them, but say in the 01/02 season where we came 4th and had an outside shot of the title for a while - there were numerous great moments against better teams, but the highlight for me was celebrating Dabizas's goal at their place. And the wins were sweeter when they were both about beating them, but also were important to us because we were actually chasing some glory.
  9. 6 points from the next 5 games then. I'm still not able to go to an away game expecting a win, so can see us not getting 3 at Southampton. But between all those games I'd fancy us to get 5 or 6 points.
  10. Tough between Tripps, Wilson, Almirón, Bruno, Joelinton, ASM. Strange times. Went with Tripps, just think he's been such a leader in dragging us up.
  11. Just seen Coutinho came on at 60mins Completely forgot about him and didn't notice he'd come on. Thinking back to Jan when we 'missed out' on him.
  12. Him saying he wants fans to dream is just such a contrast to Bruce always putting the club down.
  13. Didn't know our fans hung around getting autographs from opposition team, unless maybe Man City and that.
  14. Our loss there starting to look like a proper shit result
  15. I'm not an England fan but he deserves to go and I want him to. Obviously I'm worried he'll get injured, but also think it would help him to get rewarded, and I just love him and want him to be happy.
  16. Fuck off VAR. Felt like I couldn’t be sure about either of those goals til over a minute mate r
  17. Hate seeing players celebrating a pen. Reminds me of when Shearer missed against Ipswich, remember them celebrating. Wait til it’s in the net.
  18. I remember it being mad seeing Alex Ferguson's ManU hit us on the attack at SJP and it was just unlike anything else in terms of speed and intensity.
  19. This isn't an officially recognized table, unlike NETD.
  20. Even if they were consistent about that it'd be shit. It's ridiculous to get almost a free goal for a ball hitting an arm from a yard sliding in. Just doesn't seem at all in the spirit of the rule, which was surely to stop people deliberately picking it up, saving and controlling with their hands. At least when it was a ref you could think it was a hard decision in a moment. Now you've seen them analyse it and still pull that shit.
  21. Nah man, what you supposed to do sliding in like that.
