Guivarch only played 4 games for us and scored in one. Obviously it didn’t work out but I’ve never understood how people talk about him being so terrible for us - he barley played!

I'm not sure its fair to include Ireland in the same way as Scotland. The Scottish ruling class was extremely tied up with the British empire and Glasgow in particular is very much a city of empire. While elements of the Irish ruling class were involved, Ireland was definitely more subject to the rule of England and Britain in a different way to Scotland - with turning to Irish people to be fodder for the army very much part of that (like was done with 'British troops' throughout the colonies') Sorry, forgot what thread this is (PS - I'm not Irish, it's not about me being defensive)

I don’t think the 98-99 one is very good, although it makes me nostalgic. 99-00 is forgettable. Really liked the 00-01 one. 95-96 obviously just pure class.

I thought the penultimate Adidas kit - the one we got relegated in, was proper shit. Worst in my life along with the Puma spikey one. Their last one was decent though. (I think it was shit cos of how it looks, not the association. Too much black, shiny material, dodgy collar, badge in the middle) i think this year’s is good.

Moyes used to have these seasons at Everton I'm sure, where they'd go from pushing for the CL one season to hovering not far above the relegation the next, then back up again.

I think they all look notably worse apart from Man City's, which is an improvement, and Arsenal's which should probably be somewhere between the two.

I don’t like diving , but basically fine with other forms. Loved Wilson winding up Tottenham fans the other week with his slow walk and clap, and liked seeing players standing up for each other yesterday.

I reckon there's roughly a perfect pen for a good penalty taker - smashing it in top corner where keeper can't get it whatever they do. Then there's roughly a perfect pen for someone who doesn't normally take them - smash it down the middle. Safe - unlikely to miss target and unlikely to be saved as long as not too low that hits legs - keeper almost always dives. I'm sure I heard somewhere that statistically that's the safest pen.

When was the last time we had 6 players at a World Cup? Dead happy for Wilson. And can only be good for us for players to see playing for us can get you in the England squad. Only Man City have more - we're joint with Arsenal/Chelsea/ManU.

Same, I'd love to find photos of me when I was a kid in the crowd. I was a regular from age ~6. Wish they did those photo sets the club do now. There was a close up of me at Hereveen away on telly and I remember at the Riverside once, think 2-2 when Charvet scored. And was on the Mag in a big crowd photo at the 98 cup final. I got picked out quite a lot at Scotland games when I was a kid. Most notably a close up before England-Scotland at Euro 96. Was a bit mad when I was watching the film My Summer With Des and saw me again. Then again in 2020 when the BBC replayed the game. Got filmed by all sorts of international telly and that going into Scotland-Brazil at the WC - remember Brazilian telly asking to get shots of me, never saw what came of it. They loved an 8yo short arse in a kilt.
