If you are basing the season solely off the final league placement with absolutely no context whatsoever, then yes, he did a great job that season.

He has a few areas to work on, but he really could become elite if he does continue to apply himself; at his best, he's pretty unplayable. One of my favourite traits/strengths of his is how he is so strong and able to hook the ball into space even when under pressure, he does it a lot. He needs to work on the consistency of his short passing, and obviously his finishing needs improving too but he isn't far off having all the tools needed to reach the top. Also, on viewing that video, I have to say it, but I think we miss Shelvey.

We're going to "need" players for several seasons to get to where we want to be. We all know where our weaknesses lie but it's quite an unrealistic ask to expect them to all be addressed in one window, particularly since our desire seems to be to only bring in players that improves the first 11. Hopefully we do bring in some more (and I think we'll bring in at least one more), but whatever we have come the closure of the window gives us the tools to start the journey towards our targets.

It's a bit of a double edged sword whichever way your preference lies really, if it's a case of one or the other. Both options result in a detrimental impact to our other key players. Based on the treatment that Bruno received against Brighton, you'd expect it's going to become a recurring theme, and therefore signing another quality midfielder is arguably critical to Bruno's season. And conversely, the same applies to ASM if we don't buy another winger. My preference, if it is strictly one or the other would be a CM because I think Almiron offers more to the team in RW than Willock does in CM. Ideally, we want to be in a place whereby the opposition simply cannot afford to double up on our players for risk of freeing up another equality dangerous player.

It's borderline not worth bringing any player who's position we seriously depend on currently unless we absolutely have to. Maybe 70th minute onwards if we're still not winning.

I can't really offer anything that hasn't already been said; the usual suspects are poor and the gulf in quality between our starting players and our backup players has been all too evident. Mind, Murphy has actually outdone himself with a particularly wretched performance - he has literally no quality whatsoever

I thought he largely tried to do the same against Brighton however every time it came to the cross or pass it was of poor quality. It was a poor performance, but not through lack of trying to do the right thing. Very good sign that he's working to align to our way of playing.

Having seen the attention that Bruno received against Brighton, I do think that for his sake it's imperative we sign another central midfielder that makes it impossible for other teams to double up on players without freeing up another that can cause problems.
