If that's true i suppose i can just about understand it. Yeah, but even so he deserved a chance to turn it around. You can't let the fucking players decide who the manager is, that's almost as bad as letting Mike Ashley decide.
-
My thoughts on it all too. I know you two have been consistent, so fair play for that, but I can't believe you think this is the right decision for NUFC. Who have we got waiting in the wings to take over? Nobody with half a brain would take over now. Is this part of Ashley's plan to manage the club back to the top? Is it fuck, he probably just lost patience with contract negotiations and made a snap decision. The whole thing is so monumentally bad I'm really struggling to see how anything positive can be read into it.

But Hughton might have turned out to grow into that better manager IMO. Just like you can't always just sign big name players, you can't always go out and pick up a manager that is an expert in getting mid-table teams into Europe. There are virtually none about, the genuinely world-class managers are at successful clubs, and the rest are generally very samey. The best way to produce another Wenger or Ferguson is to give a little-known but promising manager a chance. I'm not saying Hughton would have been that, but the wise thing to do would be to give him a chance.
-
FFS, we have enough to worry about without acting like twats to each other.
-
So so right. Beyond the fact that Hughton was doing a good job, the fact was he was cheap and there were no decent alternatives available without spending loads of money. Yet another reason that this makes no sense, and yet another reason why the impact will be awful to behold.
-
Well yeah, I would give it a go, but I'm not a professional football manager with any self respect.
-
Wouldn't go that far at all. Although a protest won't achieve anything, I can totally understand why people would feel the need to have one, and so would fans of other clubs.
-
Totally agree, this sacking is tragic on many levels.
-
I just cant believe that when both have publically sung his praises and both are 'proper' players who want to play football. I really can't. I feel the same, unless they are both consummate actors or absolute cunts of unbelievable magnitude, I find this rumour hard to believe.

O'Neill, Moyes, Hughes, Bruce, etc etc. All much of a muchness, and none of them are any better than Hughton. None of them can coach or build a team into playing good, entertaining football, it's all about hard work, getting stuck in, getting players who are a physical threat, and buying enough average players with Premiership/top flight experience to ensure the squad isn't too exposed after a few injuries. Had we given Hughton time and a reasonable amount of money to replace substandard dross like Smith, Xisco, Lovenkrands, Best, Guthrie, etc etc, he'd probably have achieved what they did. Exactly, people questioning Hughton's achievements might be forgetting just how bad our squad really is.
-
If I really believed it was possible to make 80% of the fans stay away, and that that would lead to Ashley selling the club, I would be all for it.
-
I hope in a day or two I'll feel like I can support the team again properly, at the moment I just feel like fucking the whole thing off.
-
Generally no. I'm tempted to say 'maybe' as I realise that some people will take a job for the salary, no matter what the situation they're going into is like. This desperate band of sub-par jobbing managers and washed-up no marks are now the pool we're selecting from. If anyone with any dignity or respect took the job I would be really surprised.
-
Apathy is striking me at the moment, I know it's not possible to remove Ashley, and I know he's going to fuck our club over time and time again. :(
-
Listen, nothing that happened was the fault of the fans. Aye, if we had sat back and not said anything, Ashley might not have reacted so extremely... but that's his failing, not ours. All he has done is proved how inept he is time after time. Even when I thought he had learned his lesson he fucks up again even worse than before.
-
More realistic than factually stating our league position?
-
I know a boycoutt won't do any good, but I'm seriously thinking about it at the moment.
-
For once I totally agree, really can't be fucked with this. We weren't brilliant, we might even have flirted with relegation, but Hughton is a decent man and manager, and he was building a good little team with the shite players he had available.
-
The most likely answer is that there isn't any reason. Most likely Hughton has been slightly annoying in contract negotiations, pressing for an assistant etc, and Ashley has sacked him on impulse.
-
Am I dreaming?
-
Did Ashley sack Hughton in order to sell the club?

Unless we get a genuinely top manager, we are in the shit. We definitely wouldn't expect to see a new manager bounce effect. -

I really can't face going through all the 'Newcastle circus' comments and all that shite again, it's too fucking much.
