For us, selling Carroll would be giving up a lot, possibly the opportunity ever to be a decent side in the foreseeable future. The players we might or might not sign with the money is too hard to predict or quantify.

Awful game today, they just didn't seem to be up for the game at all. We basically just watched West Brom play and gifted them three goals. This is the Newcastle we know we can be... whether it's the 'real' Newcastle we don't really know. Hughton has a big task on to get the players sorted for the next game.

He was poor today, but generally he has looked OK. Clearly he was only ever signed as backup to the backup. Losing both our first choice CBs has forced him to start, and forced Taylor to start before he's probably fit. Sol's weakness at the moment is just his side-to-side movement, he doesn't seem to be able to shift his considerable weight quick enough. Poor today, but then so was everyone else.

At this point I think we could finish literally anywhere from around 8th to bottom. The league is bizarre. If we lose Carroll then we could be looking at relegation or very close to it, but then to lose Carroll and Ben Arfa would have to go down as 'massively unlucky with injures'. Then again, if Carroll keeps us around 10-12th and Ben Arfa comes back firing, we could be looking at 8th. Hopefully we'll manage to add a forward in January who will lessen this terrifying prospect, at least take some of the pressure off the A-Train.

Its how they handle the expiring contracts of more important players during next summer i am more interested in. If we cant afford to keep the Enriques and Bartons on contracts they will be happy with yet give Taylor a huge rise i wont be so happy given he isnt near the same level. Oh aye, totally, any offer should be in line with his position in the squad, and it would be a disaster if we allowed better players to leave. Saying that, Taylor does have some things going in his favour - his experience, his Englishness etc.
