TBF (although Ashley doesn't deserve it), the one thing Ashley hasn't shown is that he wants to sell all our players. Obviously I realise that could all change in an instant, and that no logic governs Ashley's actions.
-
Aye, but he would have found a reason to get rid of him in a couple of weeks anyway.
-
Fuckin why man? Filling the shoes of a manager who everyone loved, hated by the fans from day one, and on course to be sacked by Ashley after not having a fair chance to succeed.
-
I would feel sorry for Pardew if he was appointed, to be totally honest.
-
This comes after a series of regular outbreaks of him talking about Liverpool, but to suggest it's somehow more acceptable to play so wretchedly and lose 3-0 because it is Liverpool is absolutely bang out of order. No way. Unwise to say the least!

Nobody could possibly draw the conclusion that Pardew is better for us than Hughton, surely not even Ashley. However, I realise that last bit makes no sense anymore, the man is capable of anything.
-
Feel exactly the same.

So he got on a ferry instead of getting on one of the 20 or something planes to and from Amsterdam we have every day? I often thing of him as a white Mr T.

I don't think it's a contradiction. Ashley appointed Hughton because he was the cheap option, which people didn't approve of. But Ashley got lucky in that he accidentally appointed someone with some competence and dignity who the fans have ultimately taken to. Eaxctly, nobody knew whether Hughton was the right man, but luckily it turned out he was. I'm inclined to agree with your point, Ashley did get lucky. Similar could be said of the appointments of Shankly, Ferguson, Moyes etc etc. My point is there was an overwhelming and OTT negative outcry about Hughton's initial appointment by many of the people now crying about his departure. It may not stink of hypocricy but there's certainly a faint whiff. Well you know, fans don't know as much about the detail of football as they would like to think... I admit I had no idea if Hughton was equipped to manage us, and his appointment did take place at a very very negative time for the club. The thing is, now we have evidence to go on, we've seen the job that Hughton has done. Maybe people have changed their opinions, but it's hardly hypocritical.

When Pardew left West Ham he was arrogant enough to think he'd land another job in the big time. He's subsequently sat on the scrapheap and then was sacked by a League 1 team. I think his ego is suitably damaged that he'd take anything that involved managing a Premier League club, even with all the caveats Ashley and Llambias will want to place on it. After all, if they give him no money and make him sell players he's in a no lose situation: we get relegated, it wasn't his fault, no one could do the job under those circumstances. We stay up, he's performed a miracle, 3 and a half year contracts all round. No way out. Actually, if we stayed up and did a good job, he'd probably get fired anyway.

I'm almost certain Ashley didn't have anyone lined up. That's how he makes decisions, on instinct without thinking through the consequences.

It's not a Newcastle Utd anyone can recognise at the moment, it's a plaything for the random whims of Mike Ashley. I know I should be supporting the team no matter what, but he couldn't make it much harder if he tried.
-
That really doesn't warrant any comment.
-
Then he's probably the best candidate we have.
-
Can't believe we getting shat on again, it's fucking beyond.
-
Not sure why this one made me laugh in particular.

You're right, Barry is much more experienced.

Or Matt. Or Fred. Or Missy.

Or Matt.

To be fair, the damage to our club under Mort was a flesh wound compared to what has been dished out since he left.
