  1. I was very disappointed to see that banner myself... I walked past on the day. If NUSC really want to be more than a protest group (which I'm almost starting to believe some of them do), then they need to distance themselves from that sort of thing. Not just by stopping saying it themselves, but by actively telling everyone they don't approve of these banners.
  2. I'm sick to death of this bollocks about 'understanding the place of the football club in the region'. Until we stop this ignorant and insular view we'll be holding ourselves back no end. Also, weren't NUSC generally in favour of Ashley selling up to various unknown foreign consortia? At least they endorse Ashley on one thing:
  3. You got me... I'll bear that in mind when I want a meeting with the Chief Exec of HMV, I've spent a fortune in there over the years! Aye, because shopping at HMV is exactly like supporting a football team Don't be such a bloody gonk. I wasn't the one who compared fans to customers. Don't be such a fricking blick.

  5. Since when did any club Chairman answer direct confrontational questions like this from fans though? A lot of people would sound 'out of their depth' being faced with that.
  6. We're due another 5-0 win though, with a majestic chip from Bassong?
  7. Problem is, DOF is not a well-defined role anyway... I guess there will be many people with that title who do very different things day-to-day. I just think in modern football it is too much for a manager to be expected to run every aspect of the football club. The manager should be in charge of first-team matters, I agree. The biggest potential benefit to the DOF system I think is long-term stability. Rather than every manager coming in and blowing millions on his own personal favourite players, a squad can be built over time even if the manager leaves. I can see where Ashley was coming from on this, NUFC had quite a bad recent record of letting substandard managers spend too much of the club's money on shit players.
  8. I hate the fact we've turned our focus on criticising each other, one of the worst aspects of this whole thing.
  9. me too. this just seems like they've picked out some quotes and argued against them. they still come across as thinking they're bigger than they actually are. Their arrogance is incredible. I can't believe they can stand up with a straight face and say they represent Newcastle fans. This bit was especially horrible: Jesus, and they expect fans to come to their meetings who have different views? And they aren't an Ashley pressure group? Do me a favour.
  10. Not impressed by the write-up of that. Why print what he said and then make up your own mind about what he meant in the next sentence? That's not an interview/Q&A write up, it's an opinion piece. And as for saying the 'Ashley + Wise Out' banner at the recent rally wasn't from NUSC... why didn't they take it down then?

  12. The result of this one is probably beyond doubt, Hughton has a difficult job to cushion the impact of a potential hammering while still getting the players up for the game. Not sure what we can hope for, even asking for 'commitment' won't be enough, Man Utd have that in spades and will still probably out-compete us. Just hope it isn't a complete hammering, and nobody gets sent off and banned.
  13. Judging by his reactions during the Bolton game, he's now shitting himself! please explainify - didn't have coverage where i am...heard it a bit though, worse than the usual glum face by the sounds of it? Yeah, just his reactions and facial expressions really. Not sure it was enough to suggest he now realises how bad we are, but I imagine he was expecting a decent win at Bolton and got quite a shock. ah, , that's a pity - thought he might have been caught on camera mouthing "what a load of shit, this can't go on any longer it's time for a change" or something way to raise my expectations then instantly deflate them dude!! It was more than his normal reaction I reckon, but can't really say it means he'll suddenly do anything. Not much he can do at this point anyway really
  14. Colo is above our level to be honest, he's a player for the team we want to become. Hope we can hold onto him long enough to improve the rest of the squad!

  16. Surely when people talk about 'ability' usually, they just mean 'how effective a footballer is he?'. Yes, technical ability is different to effectiveness in a game, or that ball-juggling guy would be the best player in the world! The physical aspect of the game is also underestimated. When Michael Owen had fit, willing legs he was one of the best players in the world... look at him when he plays now. Even at a very low level of football, I know when I'm at my fittest I can get the better of players who are much better on the ball and technically skilled. Experience can sometimes compensate for a lack of physical attributes, but only up to a point and only for 1 or 2 players in a team. Arsenal play brilliant football, but I would argue that they actually keep things quite simple when it comes to 'technical skill'. What they do is do everything faster and more efficiently because they are fit, confident and motivated.

  18. Apathy was setting in before the Bolton game, but now the terror of relegation is back I care again. I know it's not massively more/less likely really, but I'm shitting myself at the thought of our next few games.
  19. I've been to Oxford, Maidenhead, Fulham and Reading games, but I never 'supported' them. Just enjoying some football when I couldn't get to SJP. If that's what you mean then I don't see a problem. If you mean giving up on Newcastle then yes, it's a fate worse than death for you.
  20. Think he's doing alright today TBH. Davies is the definition of a difficult CF to play against, and he's challenged him well. No centreback is going to dominate him completely.
  21. One good thing about the toon this season is I don't get a sense of panic when the defence have something to do. First time in ages. Not sure why it is, considering the position we're in, but they do look a decent back for. Enrique has been good the last couple of games.
  22. Setanta is a joke of an outfit... horrible channel. I've seen those penalties given before, but it wasn't a definite by any means. And love how they focussed on Martins waving the imaginary card, rather than the fact he was right about it being a booking!
  23. For a man who can barely move, Shola seems to get himself offside a hell of a lot. Not too bad towards the end of the half... if we can get it down and pass it we look decent. They need to start fining people for playing long balls.
  24. Don't understand the fuss about the 'imaginary card', it's no worse than any other challenge of a referee's decision. People seem to think it's worse that shouting "fuck off ref" or whatever, to me it's the same - commentators getting in a flap about nothing.
  25. Nobody wins in a case like this, except financially. Win, lose or settle, Keegan has hit Newcastle when they're down with a court case they didn't need at the worst time... he has gone down in my estimation for that. Win, lose or settle, the club will look like they are victimising a geordie legend and/or they've been lying all along. Depressing really.
