  1. Rumour in press is iniital 200 million to spend but thats for initial infrastructure and signings so depends if 1. The figure is even true. 2. If it is what % split the infrastructure takes and 3. If they do things like big Mike and spending includes their full contractual wages fees etc. I recon we will spend between 150 and 200 million in the first two windows. Obviously first two strong rumours are frees so depending on the point about wages and fees above still gives plenty for 4 or 5 quality additions
  2. I come in here and my head hurts firstly as I am not well versed in world affairs to try and have an opinion. The next feeling is my heart hurts as well meaning posters on both side try and express their sometimes raw feelings. I am a believer now whatever side of the fence your on being bad guy SA or indifference or support the team not the regime we are unlikely to sway anyone now. Over time success may turn people to the "dark side" but all in likelihood nothing the club does moving forward will be right. I just hope outside of this thread people can remain civil.
  3. never thought about the angle of what we do for them (outside of that other debate I dont want in here) "ease of refining and contacting the national sporting competencies with the best experiences" does having a football team make it easier to host tournaments, have sporting events etc?
  4. knowing our luck we will spend 80 million on a player only to see him limp off out for 6 months within the first 20 mins of the game
  5. There will always be a calibre of player (either through integrity or from playing ability) which wont move regardless the wages on offer that may be because they already earn a mint, wont move to your country/area for family, want champions league football. The calibre below that money does definitely talk, hopefully we still manage to purchase some good eggs, I dont want to go back to the days where we were the players last pay day. Hopefully we can get back to the days where Newcastle is less of a left field choice and more of a talked about first choice to go to, but that will only happen down the line when the club hopefully moves onwards and upwards.
  6. We have been bringing in only what ashley wants to pay for sports misdirect around the ground that can be improved, kit and short sponsors up for renewal is more money again, player sales, possibly bringing back catering and the merchandise along with being a club that is currently in the black. All this means only small changes can drastically improve our finances coming in thats without a better team getting a higher league place = more money, more season ticket sales = more money. Very easy to spend dont get me wrong but no wonder they feel ok committing figures like 200m off the bat.
  7. while I agree with the sentiment of being sensible and our approach of them having to be of a certain age to sign was wrong and did hurt us. We no longer have to settle or wheel and deal to the extent we once did and while yes there may be some players there that could " do a job" we want to get players the manager wants for the short/medium/long term and if none of those are on that free list I dont think thats a bad thing. Have you seen who's available. We will not be just going and buying anyone, if they're under contract and the club in question don't wish to sell it won't happen. Plus players perhaps will not wish to move here until there's some proven success, it didn't happen overnight for Man City or Chelsea, plus they had a much more lenient ffp at the time. Now things are stricter and we will be under the microscope based on what we do and how we go about it, as soon as you step out of line Chelsea transfer ban, City champions league ban, will start lodging complaints. I think looking at some of those top players available in the current season, and what could be nabbed in 2021 it's a good business avenue. I hear you though, almost like Rafa Benitez was already in the hot seat in your mind, and he would be choosing the right players for his style, he has worked with the likes of Willian,Mertens, though?? I wasn't questioning your reasoning or logic, I think I just believe we should now be buying players for the style of play, vision and needs of the squad if that happens to be a free player 28/29/30/31 years old and they match the manager/coaches requirement so be it. However it no longer has to be route 1 anymore no longer do we need to seek out weird release clauses or problem players looking to be shifted onto another team. We now "should" have the capital to say he is the one for us if that requires paying 40/50/60 million we no longer need to go well that's all the money gone for 2 seasons.
  8. while I agree with the sentiment of being sensible and our approach of them having to be of a certain age to sign was wrong and did hurt us. 9. Agree due to his age and his fitness issues his stock has fallen further he is a 5m player at best, more than likely if we want his squad place I can see us being happy with a loan fee of 2 million just to get him off the books.
  10. Depends how ruthless they want to be do they just rip up contracts for players such as elliott and colback and loan out anyone else even if it means supplementing their wages indefinitely. As I have said before the entire squad to me depending on budget is expendable, obviously noises now are its not a spent a billion building an elite squad its a slower burn which makes sense we dont have any european football/champions league yet so why spent 100 million a player to get that sort in when its not needed *yet. Some of the plodders need to go but will not attract much in terms of revenue. We need a striker or 2 now, left back and right back, central midfielder (who can score) and thats probably 200 million right there.
  11. its hard as any new coach/manager cannot meet the players as such as the minute, cannot train with them, coach them etc in a conventional sense so in a weird way sticking with someone who has spent time with the players makes sense. I still want him gone now though, if in this down time they know who they want and he is available then get him on board now hopefully they will put a mini preseason before the restart of the season for a new manager/coach to do some full sessions with the squad.
  12. May I ask why? Not saying your wrong but Poch hasn't won anything so other than progressing teams and being younger than Rafa not sure how he out manages Rafa in any real area?
  13. depeneds if the budget is real as reported and is strict at 200 million do you think Rafa is worth more than a 20 million pound player?, I unfortunately think its more unlikely due to the fact I am sure I read he never likes to break his contracts so unless the club releases him he will see it out.
  14. will the season officially end before the transfer window opens (I appreciate you don't know the answer to this). Just I don't mind letting him see the season out when he can affectively change nothing and do nothing to affect the next/coming season, but 1. if the manager is able to come now/when needed and 2. the window opens while the end of season plays out I don't want Bruce anywhere near the "new" club.

    St James' Park

From what I read I thought safe standing was still 1 person one seat position in terms of capacity if that was the case it wasn't increase anything just possibly change atmosphere in ground.
  16. I was wondering as sick as some about morals going back to merson's comments that even 650m wouldn't put us in the top teams of the country what do others think. Yes I get ffp means we can't and yes depends on the manager, transfer strategy etc but right now if we spent 650 over the next say 4 windows what is best and worst case scenario in terms of league standing?
  17. Loads of tricks around FFP anyway we can still get a new shirt sponsor, kit sponsor, second arm sleeve shirt sponsor and actual stadium advertising.
  18. FFP does not included infrastructure etc. Just players and wages. Therefore, if our new overlords want to build a new training ground, it shouldn't really affect any budget. However, 80-100m doesn't get you a great deal anymore. We would improve but you need more to catch up on the top 4. Apparently you have 4 years of semi-compliance with FFP once you get taken over. You are allowed losses above the FFP threshold, however have to be working towards breaking even by the end of the 4th years. It's essentially set up for big money takeovers. Sorry on my mobile so being lazy with my post I wasn't even thinking FFP just that the owners may want to do a slow rebuild and don't want to spunk hundreds of millions. It may be a shock to some who expect loads of money. To be fair I personally think it will be a balance in between marquee signings back but not everyone is going to be top drawer.
  19. What happens if take over does go through but a sustainable 80/100 million a window is spent being minted doesn't mean they gonna spend especially as other areas such as training ground and the ground itself need more than a few pennies.

    Rafa Benítez

I don't see how even with all the money in the world you could instantly build a title trophy winning team anyway. The league has changed so much from when say Chelsea "bought" success. Even newly promoted teams can spunk 30/40 million on a player. You need a boss who can manage and gel together a pampered lot into a unit. We aren't needing 1 or 2 additions. Years of under investment has seen clubs pass us by. With every window they too strength widening that gap. We need a long term plan to get a core team together and then add those quality players in window by window cycling out failed and aged acquisitions you know like a good/normal club should.

    Rafa Benítez

18 months more of Bruce to wait for Rafa or get someone else in and risk Rafa retiring after his China stint?
  22. We didn’t play bad football under Rafa by any means. Perhaps it was more defensive than many would have liked, but defensive =/= bad. effective yes but at times frustrating allowing the other team to have alot of the ball and still feel comfortable you do have to admire its what stopped us getting battered even when outclassed. However its not the same as free flowing attacking football making the team work so hard as they are chasing shadows. We never got that at all with rafa but as I said previously what tools did he have and even when he did sign players he admitted himself he gave the board 3 levels of purchase high, medium, and meth and to be fair most of the time it was category 3 or my personal fav category 4 (you get what your given we spent the money on agent fees).
  23. this 100% at the end of the day rafa did well with twenty pence and a fuck load of non committal from a non existent board and still managed to make us look stable, I am sure he wanted to do more but was making us the most effective unit he had with the tools he had available. Give the man money, a long term goal and he will do his best to see it happen if its within his power. He would also fit in nicely with an ownership that wants to spread its wings out in the community in terms of engagement and good will.
  24. You also have to factor in the "type of player" the manager that hopefully comes in like and wants what we consider our best 11 is not "their" best 11 sort of thing.
  25. Unfortunately we wont be spending 300/400 million in one transfer window and it wouldnt be the wisest approach anyway. One or two strikers/number 10 upgrade right and left backs and see how it goes from there. Again all guess work based on the rate of rebuild and who we bring in management wise and any restrictions such as player sales, freeing of squad numbers, which players are allowed a second chance etc.
