  1. what boils me is that we all know that every player has an off game or even a striker having a barren spell that lasts a few weeks. But this blob has been bouncing up and down the field for tweo seasons being nothing more than a giant waste of space, he is poor in every respect and i find it very hard to put a good spin on any of his play. Get rid please I will give up all my birthdays for the next 3 years if we get shot take him in the middle of a farmers field put him to work there and sign somebody better yet sign some one good.

Bramble at less than £4m would be a dream for any decent man-manager who likes to discipline his players. i dont think discipline would help him he is just these sort of players and i think that a heavy hand would only make him less error prone but the chance would always be there. I dont think any of the top teams would have him for 4million possibly the bottom end hoping that he will come good certainly we as a team hoping to push and play in europe season in and season out should not be relieing on a player like this ever.

for the lads first game im just glad he wasnt sitting on his arse for 90 mins totally out paced or sent off inside 20 mins cause he made one hell of a bad tackle or gave away a penalty. Being composed and simple is all you want for your first game lets hope that once we deside who to play him with he can go from strength to strength.
  4. the thing is that although id be shocked and disappointed if he went in the summer or in two/three seasons time i would understand it was for carear reasons and it is about time that we make a profit on a player and if someone came in offering 23/25 million i would snatch their hands off go buy a 15/20 million pound striker and then use the rest to develop the rest of the squad no one player can be bigger than the team. While saying that selling him on and not taking massive money would mean we would end up wasting it look at some of the prices seen on players either getting onto 30 or playing poorly and still being quoted as 12/13 million the likes of crouch who is playing in a class side making him seem good and the likes of bent that would cost an arm and a leg we may as well try and keep who we have and try our best to keep him happy and doing plenty of goal celebration back flips you only improve if you hold onto your best players. guess ive just argued my own point with myself never mind :pottytrain5:

totally agree even if he just turns out to be average would keep him as a squad player with brambles future in his own hands and moore really wanting to leave gooch is only 24 so there is plenty of seasons left in him. better than offering Bambi a new contract on 30k a week or whatever he's been on this is what i hate about us even if bramble does manage to go on a run of top performances looking solid and then we give him a longer improved contract say 2/3 years. We as fans know he is never going to be error free so garenteed he would only end up getting injured or dropping off or lunging in once a game. Give the lad a higher squad number and tell him to sit in the back of the que and be happy we are keeping him on or ship him out.

I don't think he counts as a risk. he is a risk in the sense that if he plays well till the end of the season and we hope that we can let bramble go or moore (if he goes down hill) and then he turns to be crap we wont buy someone else in the summer for that position. But i dont feel that will happen so fair play to the lad Gooch has seen the ups and downs from us already a shaky but winning performance against mon villa and then the poor performance against smug colemans fulham

Like Boumsong to begin with yea but doomsong cost us 8.5 million plus higher wages this is just a loan if he plays his part this season and signs next season it wont be for a massive fee.
  9. if we say that we make no more signings and the injuries do ease i could see us sticking in the top 6-10 bracket most of the second part of the season, alot of teams are right behind us with not alot of points in it and I agree that this Gooch guy is the unknown quantity and if he plays well then I could see us not leaking as many set pieces the guy should be big and strong enough to just hoof the ball a way which is always a better idea than see the ball pass you by which is what carr and bramble and to some extent huntington does.
  10. well if arsenal were linked as being keen then its pritty much a good sign that he is good enough lets hope if we do get him he turns into a martins and not a viana Lots of pace, athletic and tall, apparently a copy of Henry. That kind of player, as long as he's some ball control will do canny in the EPL. But coming here is the wrong move, we couldn't nurture his talent, he's better off going to Wenger, he'll look after him and turn him in to the next Henry if hehas it in him. We would turn him in to the next Jenas, Viana, Luque etc... I would hope that the younger players would take him under their wings and help him bed in, the difference between luque and babel is that he is young and raw luque plodded himself over here with abit of a reputation and i have a feeling wouldnt have bothered to gell. As for Jenas well we all know he is a glory hunter jumped on the band wagon when we were flying high and then he wanted out and off to london to supposedly advance his international carear which i dont think he will ever do. Viana well I just think he was young yes, raw yes did he gell well who can say except people in the club i suspect that the arguement the press made about him being played out of position thinking he was comming here as a 9 million signing would garentee him to slot straight into speeds place and wasnt going to wait round for 2/3 seasons to get a solid run in the team.
  11. Fuking great. I heard he was the next Henry as well! well if arsenal were linked as being keen then its pritty much a good sign that he is good enough lets hope if we do get him he turns into a martins and not a viana
  12. sort of merging two threads here but if this babel thing is true and we have tabled a 4.5/5 million bid and we do this knowing its enough and not one of these "we offered them a good price and they said no". Does that mean we go back to the suggestion of this 10 million fund or do we think this is all bull and there is no money in the pot or have we made a bid but its a swap/loan deal between the two clubs no money chaging hands and the media and putting a figure on it as they dont know all the facts. its got my head sore could have been the 8/9 pints but im sure its over thinking
  13. also have to think long term that owen would no doubt get injured again plus we are normally in more than one cup per season and the fact that the african nations comes round is it once every two seasons so that would mean martins could go bye bye for quite a few weeks. Martins and Babel both in their early twenties would be a great team for the future of the attack if we can hold onto them both. Milner, zoggy martins and babel oldest right now is 22 so we could potentially have them running at top form for a good 5/6 seasons bringing consistancy back to the side none of this chopping and changing shite we get loaded with the last 2/3 seasons.
  14. part of me is thinking really negatively in the sense that most national and internation press people link us with all sorts of deals must be a load sinse about xmas that we were close to or going to sign. Second I dont think they could pay his wage demands unless he is that sick of us and how glen slags him off that he will leave and take pay drop. but the positive part of me is thinking yes a signing not only that but he is young and could well do what martins has done after the bedding in period, also we know that arsenal hardly ever make a bad signing so if they are as keen as the press over here has made clear and we have actually struck a deal then he must be something worth to shout about.
  15. he will fit right in then.. sign the lad up
  16. you seen much of him playing? I havent really heard about him, man mountain yes but does he have pace, skill and a cool head everything which bramble doesnt have basically? its a hard act to follow whoever we bring in when you comepare them to doomsong and titus bimble you'll miss your bus mate what bus is that then?

  18. every player gets to the point where they arent worth holding onto, but i think the boards hands were tied as who the hell would dare sell him on or force him to retire early i think the fans would be in uproar and i dont think he is the type of man to be forced into anything. I'm very proud he followed his heart and came to us I remember when he was still in his late 20's and we were being quoted a reported 25/27 million for him by some spanish sides but if he went would he be such an icon like he is now to us I think he would potentially be seen as the sell out who followed where the money is instead of where he would like to play his football. Many players say things like "ill end my carear at the club i love it so much" i remember owen being quoted saying that as well as beckham and they all moved on. Alan is a hard act to follow and I think he was worth every penny.
  19. I think thats where i was heading in my thinking, I could have seen it go another way. Owen scores in every match mega play maker and follows on with an excellent pre season, who is to say that we would have been able to hold onto him. What if chelsea came in and offered our money back or 19/20 million (so they didnt have to go for shev stinko) and we agreed to sell on. Who would we have bought I would say that at that time we would have threw 16/17 at bent and we probably we would be in the same situation except I actually prefer a fit owen to a fit bent or is that another thread?
  20. i agree that right now he has been an ineffective purchase, it was also the wrong choice to go off to the world cup having played was it about 30 mins? But we needed a striker when shearer left we needed someone to fill his boots as best we could. I remember at the time people were saying they have known for 2 seasons or so he was going to go why didnt they look into it then and keep track on their targets. This is where the board let us down, as I'm sure robson had an idea but sinse he left FFS descided that he would pick the new striker and cause he doesnt have any more brain cells that the garden variety pigeon he descided who else than wore lil michael owen sitting out on the subs bench at real madrid. I for one was delighted we had got him was proud of the chairman to go for him and delighted he seemed to be all smiles when he was welcomed at st jame's . Fact we needed a high calibre replacement one that we werent going to be retiring straight after signing and I for one think he was the best at the time, we all knew the risks and i think its just bad luck that we have not seen the best of the outlay. I wish i was a fly on the wall that saw the logic in letting real double their money for a striker they have had for 5 mins and couldnt hold down a solid place in the side. If and i mean if with a wait and see attached to it see him show some commitment and play to his best for us till at least his contract ends then i will be happy as i do think him bagging 15/20 goals a season would mean the difference from european places and midtable blandness.
  21. Excellent I was desperate to know more about the youth/reserves team, can anyone tell me any more information on Liam Atkin? Sorry long story as to reason I'm asking.
  22. you cant get blood out of a stone when it comes to baba and carr the reason we have been playing so well is cause they arent in the side to mess it up, blessing indeed as sol has really took the lead and stuck in no matter what position he is in. I fear that with bramble he tries to hide the crap with a few classy touches or 10-15 mins worth of skill it doesnt stop him messing up and no matter how good the coach you cant improve a poor player.
  23. wearing your heart on your sleave while remaining professional clarky boy is showing that with the right coaching he can make a good manager as he has already slipped into a coaching role really well. go clarky go!

Ive seen alot of papers quote between 2.5-4 for luque and about 3-5 for milner if we were to take top estimates it woulc come to about 8-9 this would only make a half decent bid for SWP so lets not kid oursleves if we are going to sell then we need to do two things first 1. make sure we have a decent squad member as a replacement or are expected to go out and purchase one (so it makes financial or football sense though) i.e dont replace a talent for an old talent for cheap as you need to sort the problem out again and soon. so in terms of luque if we play him wide left then we have the zogg and duff, upfront we have minimal to actually argue to get rid of him but if we already have kitty for a striker then i say bye bye. as for milner if we can think of him as wide right we have sol and dyer i would say thats pritty good cover but he is younger than both and i feel he is worth keeping in the squad, again if you think back to the olden days and him as a striker i think if this is where we are wanting to play him then we may as well get rid now as he doesnt have the talents up front to make it as a striker and we will never play 3 up front so keeping him as a right sided attacker is no good either. 2. make sure you are getting value for money, a loss on luque is inevitable he isnt going to get the run of games and although he is seen highly in spain there seems to be weakened interest comming from that direction and half the value we paid figures comming out with it. as for milner good guy good professional tries his hardest some how i dont know got over being ripped away from the pocket of villa but has moved on i think the board need to think long and hard if they are going to toy with him again if they want rid they want rid not putting a sale through as long as we can get the money together for X,Y and Z also we have to ask ourselves what FFS would do with the money put it towards SWP of blow the 4 mil on a bid for a viduka, an ageing while talented player would only give us one or two seasons when we need a constant strike force like in the days of shearer and sir les

SKirge did we ever find out how much of non existant funds we spent though when it came to Mr S's 50MIL blow? I would guess that getting into europe money is already spoken for.
