it simply could go either way if we were in a better league position then I would expect to see limited spending as Jan window doesnt hold as good of a value as the summer. They also dont want to be lumbered with players by making rash decisions on fees/contract length as it will strangle the clubs transfer windows in the near future due to FFP. Not sure how much clubs expect to lose by dropping into the championship but if it were to set us back 60-100m I can see them being happy spending that much as its a calculated risk. We may just spend massively in the loan market as a compromise not because we are skint or operating on a shoe string but because we get a higher calibre of player potentially but not the big contracts as our league status is under threat. That or loan with an obligation to buy on the back of us staying up. As others have said its exciting as normally we expect nothing and usually get nothing or are haggling over a few million loan fees, for once we need players in and will be active in the window.

I hope the keeper situation can wait and hope its mainly down to how poor the defence is in front of him adding to the pressure/errors etc a new back 4 with a new central midfield player and a back up striker (ok so thats me asking for 6) would hopefully assist in dragging the poor squad along and making up for its deficiencies.

I suppose the priority argument comes down to the fact for squad balance etc we wont be getting a new 11 in a single window if we only signed say 5 players which 6 positions would you be more happy/comfortable about leaving with the current squad. Although factoring in some need shipping or unregistering in order to free up squad places.

We arent going to have a squad full of 30/40/50m players in every position (yet) but we all know most of the squad need to go so we need to "pad" the team out with younger not playing every week players especially as we appear to be linked to alot of older more seasoned players they arent going to exactly be around very long. We havent given them a window or two yet to see how they want to play this while we do need immediate impact this window we also need to try and replace what we can when the right deals come up.

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle, the sound bites we got at the beginning was slow build, within FFP, long term project. Of course she has said money is available so guessing at this point if we were to spend every single window and while we maybe do set an initial budget we possibly wont be afraid to go over that for the right player/deal this is still light years ahead of where we ever were with Ashley. No one knows at this point if the current position we are are in makes them think well dropping out of the league hurts us 100m so we will spend that in the hope of staying up or we wheel and deal as best we can and plan for staying up or going down for next season. I think they should acknowledge with our current position and infrastructure you cant buy your way to being an elite club as easy as it was in previous take overs due to 1 how far behind we are in every department and 2 sticking to the current FFP rules. While we may be willing to chuck money at the problem academy, facilities, padding out of staff, improvements in every department may take a few years and in that time may not make an immediate impact with on the field stuff.

We may on paper have a massive potential spend but until players start getting bids made on them and more importantly sign we dont know how lavish our spending will be. The very fact we could go down could see us spend out right very little we could offer massive fees just to loan the unobtainable or make signings deemed short term fixes on short contracts which could be snapped up relatively cheaply. Do I think we will spend yes I do, do I think it will be 100's of millions well no cannot see it personally if this was the summer and we knew we were still in a league 100m+ easy but right now its very unlikely as I cannot see a 30/40/50/60m player wanting to play in the championship for a season which is a distinct possibility.

Like with many of your points I find myself nodding in agreement the issue about value is not about stretching the pennies and trying to hunt around the bargain bin the issue is still about buying wisely. The reason for this is still FFP watching a sky fans forum thing around the time of the take over I wasnt aware Everton had spent something like 500m and now were buying cheap not because the owner didnt want to spend more but because they couldnt under FFP rules. This "new money" which will come in due to how small our spends have been before and how much we can expand the commercial side is still limited in terms of that stupid FFP formula.

I believe the budget will be mainly based on our position - fucked, the availability of players - potentially limited due to league position and how the prem sides do business with us. While Amanda was making noises of it being a bad window to invest we no longer have to pay for players in full as Ashley liked to do nor do we have to be so anal about budgets to let opportunity pass us by. ultimately its hard as survival with spending isnt guaranteed and do not you want to carry the big financial hits with signing and paying a Jan fee to then potentially allow them to move on for less in the summer if we do drop. Still can see 60-100m being spent, got to try and give away or unregister players at the same time too.

we clearly cant fluke/manager bounce/drag ourselves out of trouble on our own with current playing squad some serious investment or very clever dealing is required be it big players on loans with obligation to buy or mercenaries on big wages with soft relegation clauses. It is clear now if 5/6 dont come in we are down I dont think 1 or 2 quality editions will be enough to drag improvement in most areas of the pitch we need. If this means we invest a lil unwisely from a medium and long term prospective I am ok with that, if we can stay up as while going down will be a fresh start and a clear out it still means buying players for that level and having to upgrade all over the pitch when you come back up.

totally get your point and online abuse is just horrid but I am not sure how much effort I am seeing the players that were clearly limited but were better than this in previous seasons its not like he is 36 and at the end of his career. Doesnt do anything to deserve the armband we can see publically and while he may have been here and endured the Ashley period like us fans we arent getting paid 20/30/40k a week to "compensate us". The players that have managed to get themselves in a rut due to what has gone on should be feeling renewed and refreshed about the prospect of new ownership/ management/ investment but we are still seeing a side lacking in confidence and prone to too many errors. I guess thats why we are where we are with relegation form not just in results but in too many sub par performances. He has to be replaced along with most of the defenders at the club.

If its true about Shearer would it be the case that he has to give up his BBC stuff to do it and the "work" would have to pay according to what he was losing from that? I am not sure its a priority still about ambassadors feel like there is still so much yet to do.

If this wasn't the Newcastle board and we were looking at the current bottom 3 it speaks for itself most would say its dead someone put it out of its misery , appears to me we will need a few things to go our way such as other teams doing us favors be it their own poor runs or beating teams around us to drag more people in the scrap, our players managing to get a few unexpected positive results and us having an impactful immediate transfer window. The fact we need all of these things to happen makes it that much more likely not to. I voted a 8 as there is alot of the season still to play and we are not in a position where we cannot still help ourselves but if it were any other team I was "judging" I would say its a 10.

Not sure if its been mentioned but if I had to chose getting covid when he signed missing vital face to face training or the 90 minutes on the day I know which I would chose. Gutted from a clean slate prospective but Howe's team should have this as they have been with him every step of the way here.

I dont believe any player "deserves" anything it is up to them to prove it was the system/ man management/ the other players around them etc that was at fault for their own poor form. We should if we can allow them time to "hang themselves" but I hope its a more ruthless Newcastle we see going forward. Gone are the days I hope that because they cost us money and are on decent wage we need to keep on persisting with someone who isnt up to task. If your not good enough your not good enough and see them gone or playing in the reserves until they can get gone.

You could quite easily say bin the lot if you wanted to be ruthless. We have no style of play or anyone integral to the functioning of said none existent style. I wouldn't miss any of them albeit a couple of players have enough about them to stick around more medium term and I hope the dead wood start disappearing regularly in transfer windows. Like others have said who has been managed/ trained or demotivated by the past setup? Who has really settled into this complacent level where they feel what they are doing is enough? Weeding out the difference between those two types of players are critical for any progress and development. Howe will have his favourites like all managers do and some may be left field but are the best fit for his system. As I have said before elsewhere it's not just the money and potential that's exciting but the hope if its not working you don't stick to it because you can't afford to change it such as mangers can now be sacked, bad signings can be binned etc.

no disagreeing having an "eye" for a player isnt a good quality but when you start shopping in a different bracket relatively speaking i.e. not the 3-12m player but the 30-40m player+ bracket the failures are harder to take and takes a different sort of approach as a cheaper diamond in the rough sort of player (assuming that at 25/35m they already have some very apparent qualities to make them in that price bracket). All a moot point anyway if they go for a DOF the question will then not be can he identify a quality player in the higher price bracket but more can he work with more expensive players and get their respect and man manage them to follow his vision.

Not really disagreeing with 1. slow build 2 doing things right and not rushing 3. limiting mistakes as much as possible to impede growth and cause setbacks. We are playing "what if" here is all as we dont know what has gone on behind the scenes in terms of talks, plans, strategy, what is real that has gone out in the public space etc and, I am not part of the "bed wetting brigade" but can certainly appreciate the frustration. Going back to the "what if" game IF we had of had a manager within the first 3-5 days of a certain quality we could quite clearly "could" have had more points and grinded out results, the squad is limited we all know that its under invested and poorly managed but we could and should be doing better. I dont remember advocating a "grind it out manager" my point is based on what the squad is capable with no new players we will have to grind out results as I dont see anything to suggest we have been playing in 2nd or 3rd gear and there is massive scope to improve (new manager lift, playing more effective for who we have, playing positions, some 1st team 11 changes would have us playing better) . If we got a fit manager in earlier more time with the squad more points and then your recruitment in jan can become more focused driven. Like I say its all a what if scenario the coach/manager isnt here and we are now looking at a rumoured back up manager who is out of work so in theory in hindsight could have come through the door within the first week. Not to say we shouldnt have explored other opportunities its just as it looks to have turned out the way its heading to an instantly available manager its frustrating to think in hindsight it wasnt all done sooner.

Could have such a gap to bridge by the time someone comes in and works with a poor squad to work out what works for us to grind results it won't matter how good the manager is right for the club. If we were midtable we all know very few would be replacing the underwear just yet as plenty of time but our situation darkens by the day and the coaches tasked with steadying the ship have failed. Has to be the balance but they have had weeks not days.

While they are not at fault for the predicament we are in due to what has gone on before the new owners arrived they are now the only ones that could do anything about it. While I don't blame them I can understand why you may be annoyed as give us time and follow the process to get it right could lead us being adrift by double figures.

Spending so many weeks "wasting" time on a candidate which appears at best was on the fence about the whole thing isn't great and shows the lack of how football works knowledge the team are still waiting to build in.

If he does I imagine we won't be scared to let go. While some may argue we could start shipping Managers out for nothing in particular which isn't great either the fact is under Ashley we had no choice but to hope they did good or quit as Mike wasn't going to be shelling out to let go of a team and hire a new one.

The 1 signing in the summer with the "that will do it worked last year approach" while the side got older and poorer and all teams looked to improve was and is such a larger factor to our what looks like impending doom.
