I thought Southampton’s chairman at the time - Nicola Cortese - was the one who brought in Pochettino. I seem to recall that he had known of him previously.

I thought the club did not own the land the stadium stands on as it belongs to the Freemen. Is that correct? Who owns the land around the stadium?

I personally think that the interview he did regarding Mitchell etc is what led to Eddie’s remarks about job boundaries at that press conference in Germany which created an impression of some discontent behind the scenes. He talked about how Mitchell’s appointment would allow Eddie to do what he was best at on the training ground. The press were told that Eddie didn’t know about Mitchell’s appointment until the day before it was announced so it looks like Eddie was completely in the dark about how the appointment of Mitchell would impact upon him. If that was the case then it was poor from Eales to make such remarks in a press interview before discussing it with Eddie. And I think that has created the current narrative that the media are constantly pushing of all not being well.

No mention of season ticket holders. Do they automatically get access or do you have to buy a membership or buy a pass?

I think the location of the club has kept it going in bad times. If it was away from the city centre, it would be easier to miss a game because of the hassle of getting there. Also the transport links are current\y excellent for home and away fans. Trying to get back to Central Station after a night game from the outskirts of town but be difficult. You would probably have to build car parks meaning massive queue as well as improved transport infrastructure and there would probably be few facilities around which would please the club as they would benefit at the expense of city businesses.

Wonder if Ashley would have tried to sue Villa for their deal with JD Sports had he not already failed with us.

I think the injuries in January may also have had an impact on the PSR situation. Some of those we might have sold were injured and others were needed due to the lack of cover. I guess they were hoping that there would be interest in other players before having to sell Anderson and Minteh but the players most would be happy to see leave probably won’t go until other club’s preferred options are no longer available. They are the players that move in the last week of the season.

If Eddie wants new players in then he has to accept others need to be sold to make room in the squad.

Well the positive is that this should be sorted before the season gets underway. If Howe does want the job then the club needs to know ASAP as it surely would affect transfers.

Unless he has just implemented his fitness routine last season, I would think the England set up would already have been aware of this from him playing with the U21s.

I hope they will still attend some games even if it is just for the London games. Seems strange after all that effort to buy the club and emotional involvement for them to cut ties completely. It would be nice for them to have some sort of honorary position that keeps them connected to the club.

If we were talking to as many clubs as suggested about selling players - and it has been suggested many other clubs were aware of our PSR issues - then they had no need to brief the press. They may well have done but I bet other clubs would have been only too happy to brief the media on our situation as well.

I read that prospect of an independent regulator is the reason for the Premier League starting to get tough with clubs as they have been trying to show they can self govern as they are very against a regulator.

Problem is whilst we are making up that £200m, the others aren’t standing still waiting for us to catch up.

I think it is just a matter of time now before he leaves. - if not this season then next. I think Liverpool need to get rid of players so they couldn’t justify the outlay for him at this stage but if they manage to sell a couple they may come back in for him and he would probably then agitate for the move.

I suppose you don’t miss what you’ve never really had. Would like him to stay but there has not been an opportunity to develop an emotional attachment so I would not be as devastated as if it was Bruno or Isak etc.. Obviously if he went on to be a great player it would be annoying but if in the meantime we buy 2-3 excellent players that progress us a little quicker than might have happened, then I guess it will be worthwhile. That is what happened with Villa and Grealish and I suppose West Ham with Rice.

Maybe due to the PSR rules, clubs are looking to boost their academies so they can sell the players in the future rather than developing them for their own team. That doesn’t seem right.

I think it was Kieran Maguire who said recently that clubs were moving towards reducing the number of season rickets as they were more interested in the day trippers as they would spend more money in the shop and ground.

Was near the 2 drums and it drove me mad. Deafening and a real atmosphere killer in the areas nearby. It did start some chants off but mostly it just drowned them out. The ‘song list’ is so turgid and boring. Much prefer an atmosphere that develops organically than manufactured. Maybe it sounded better in other areas of ground but there is no way I want to be near a drum in a football ground again.

So different from the Ashley days when there would be a terse line on the website, if that, when a player left.
