If Gutierrez is any good (I have no idea), then he will probably be a good value signing (we have no idea how much of a signing on bonus we're giving him, or the wages he's on so how can we really judge). Ditto Guthrie. Two swallows though... We aren't the only club looking for good deals, and wont be the only club to pick up a couple of cheap players who turn out to be bargains (whisper it, but we've done it in the past too!). Other clubs will be doing that AS WELL AS spending transfer fees and wages on players with established and proven ability. Honest question to you or anyone else - do you think Gutierrez and/or Guthrie were signed instead of Modric? I ask because we've gone from being willing to spend £18m on an attacking midfielder (so obviously we thought the position needed filling) to our most important positions now being 2 fullbacks (I would assume cover for Beye but maybe more experienced competition for Enrique). UV i've asked that question a hundred different ways on here and there'll be answer - if the modric bid was real then as you say the position had to be a priority and one we were willing to pay top dollar for what happened? Maybe they saw him as a winger and Gutieriez was his back up.

Agreed both good players, but can you think of two players less likely to get along with Roy Keane? That should make for an interesting dressing room. I can see Roy Keane punching one fo them when they say something to him and ending up in the nick.

So, we've got Duff, same age, same size, left footed but Duff has premiership experience On another note, it would be funny if these players they've been signing didn't adapt to the prem. Class players can't always cut it here, Veron for example. I would absolutley love it if they have a start like last year. Rebrov? Shevchenko as well, these Former USSR players don't seem to enjoy the prem. I can't think of any who have done well.

Why don't we club together and see if we can raise 2m Euros. Its only about 40 quid per season ticket holder. -
If all teams become richer it just measn the players are more valuable as to attain more money you need to do well, therefore the players financial worth is more as a Torres, for example has the potential to turn a top 5 side into a top 4 side with his goals. This is worth more money therefore the players are more valuable.

I was told a week or two ago that we had major bids in for three players and one was Modric, I didn't get the other two names. The bids were dating back at least 6 weeks. Must have some money then 10m for Coloccini, 18 for Modric I bet the other was Gomis at about 10-15 and the media have the cheek to say we are skint. I'd love it if we spent 50M this week just to piss off the media and all the Mackems who are saying we have no money. Funnily enough I did wake up this morning worringly confident we'd see some major movement (the transfer type, not bowel) over the next fortnight. Seems a bit retarded to bid for these players without back ups though. Unless Guthrie is the backup for Modric. -

I'm trying not to think either way, which is hard as obviously I want us to sign him but don't want to be crushed again. -

aye, you have to do your bit Dave fantastic, time for a few pints. Praying he'll agree terms Eh? Your own made up news is 'fantastic'? what you on about, I didn't make up anything You edited in that a fee had been agreed and quoted his agent as saying he was happy to come here. All last night. Your source on that is? I looked up the domain of Thomo's email address and he works for some UK based specialist waste and resource management group not a sports company. http://www.augeanplc.com Of course he could have left that job but it's a bit of a strange jump. eh? Thomo said he worked for a sports branding company and his colleague is in deportivo. His email address suggests otherwise, unless he has changed jobs since then. He said it was on spanish TV. -

As your O/P was over 2 weeks ago, we have herd nowt since & he was not in the first team or reserve squads I am guessing not that great He only started his trial on Monday, so if he's not in the squad tommorow, then we know it didn't go well. Oh I thought he started his trial on the same day as Stupeedo O/P. With KK saying the squad is small you would like to think he will get at least a run out down at Donny. I imagine it would be a behind close doors friendly to test out a trialist. I would love it if he did start and we got the old *******GOAL NEWCASTLE UNITED 23 MINS - SCORER - A TRIALIST

I would say under Sir Bobby was the last time we where truly fit, so yes it does coincide with performances. Fitness is massivley important noways. Under Sam, I remember our players looking absolutely knackered pretty much from the second half onwards and towards the end of the season under KK our fitness levels seemed higher than the teams we where playing.

thats a bit like having Terry and Ferdinand at the back when they were both 21 yr olds isn't it? Yeah, just with alot less talent.
-
I was listening to talksport the other day and Micky Quinn was saying he annoyed KK and he made him go and train with the juniors. He said thats what KK does when you annoy him.

I don't think it's a lack of funds for any of the sides I just don't think theres much talent available at a reasonable price. Clubs are asking for 3x the players worth sometimes more alot of this is probably down to the Euros for example Arshavin previously probably valued at 12 is now on the market for no less than 21.5M. I also think this 3rd party ownership bollocks is having an effect too, clubs aren't willing to buy out the player from these 'Super Agents' as no doubt they'll want crazy money and are also scared that if they enter into an agreement with these agents they'll have no clue whether they are infringing on the rules as it's a new and very grey area. Another factor could be the money in what I consider Europe's 'lesser' leagues. Look at the Russian League for example the clubs are arguably richer than our own or at least not far off it and the players that they produce are now staying on crazy wages leaving less talent for the bigger leagues such as our own and the talent that is willing to leave these leagues will want champions league football as they are used to it.

How much do you think N'Zogbia is getting a week? I heard 35K per week when he signed that contract last year.
