  1. https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-uniteds-transfer-budget-explained-14802307 Need to sell before we can buy then? If only other clubs outside of the Premiership, the Championship and the very top clubs (PSG, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid, Bayern, etc) had any money to buy our players.
  2. What are the NEW shares issued to shareholders worth? They're not in that screenshot or thread.
  3. Yes but relatively speaking those clubs are minted and could easily afford to pay in one go. They were just two examples. We tend not to hear if clubs are paying in installments. When NUFC sell players to foreign clubs it's like getting blood out of a stone getting money out of them.
  4. Well we have form. One reason why the Lejeune's transfer was so drawn out. We agreed wages with Lejeune's agent, but tried to undercut the clause fee, and then attempted to pay what is a peanuts fee (in this market) in installments. We're so small time, and pathetic. To be fair, most football clubs seem to try to pay in installments when possible. Rich clubs like Tottenham and Liverpool are paying NUFC in installments for Sissoko and Wijnaldum.
  5. Mad that they don't mark Kane.
  6. VAR for all teams except England. FIFA still hate us.
  7. No matter how much some of you rate Mitro, Rafa doesn't.
  8. From what I watched earlier Mitro is better than Messi.
  9. The story I read yesterday said Crystal Palace had rejected a £20m bid from NUFC (not that I believe NUFC have made that bid). More than £20m is a total non-starter. Atsu has had a knee injury for a long time which he was trying to manage with injections. He's had an operation on it now so hopefully he'll perform better next season injury free.
  10. The other games involving Portugal and Spain in this group should be good. To finish top of the group they'll have to try to better the others result against Morocco and Iran. Should be plenty of goals.
  11. NUFC paid £12 million for him. Crystal Palace paid £13 million for him after triggering his release clause. I can't imagine Mike Ashley would be willing to sanction £20 million for a player NUFC sold for £13 Million two years ago.
  12. Porto crying poor now too? They can't find £8m even though they qualify for the Champions League every season and often sell players for massive profits.
  13. A decent chunk of the transfer budget will be required to pay for loan players (who will be a much higher proven quality than most players NUFC can afford to buy). Does the restocking of the under 23 squad come from the same budget? Probably. Does Rafa keep some money back to spend on training ground improvements?
  14. https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/rafa-benitez-learns-could-shop-14783650 So around £40m like last season? I think that £40m included player sales so the actual budget before sales is probably lower. Hopefully there will be some good players available for loan so Rafa can bring some decent quality to the squad.
  15. The only positive about that tough start is sometimes the top teams are slow starters. Maybe better to take them on before they get fully up to speed.

    Matz Sels

It's not just that NUFC don't get anywhere near their money back on transfers. These mid range teams can never seem to scrape together much money for a transfer they want. The Championship teams seem to have a lot more money than most teams from leagues which aren't the top division of Spain or Germany. Bought Florian Thauvin off Marseille for £15m. Loaned him back to Marseille in the January as they cried poor saying they had no money to buy him back. Buy him in the Summer for £9.8m. Pretty much the same thing happened with Rémy Cabella.

    Matz Sels

https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/uncomfortable-truth-newcastle-uniteds-transfer-14780261 Bought for around £6.5 million from KAA Gent in June 2016. He was given a 5 year contract when NUFC were in the Championship. When he was loaned to Anderlecht he was apparently the highest paid player in the league. So Championship goalkeepers get paid more than any Belgian Pro League players? I don't see why Sels would have been on 'Premiership' wages. So NUFC are fighting to get £2.25m and have been offered £1.7m (which would be a £4.8m loss on transfer fee paid). Does every top division league apart from England, Spain and Germany really have no money? NUFC buy players and then if they don't work out NUFC get robbed on the transfer fee. A real problem of buying players from lesser leagues is if they aren't a success you're stuck with a player on mega wages who either won't leave or goes for a small transfer fee.
  18. Rafa is and wants to be a day to day manager. He'll not want to be an International manager for a good while yet (if ever).
  19. Think that was the original plan to cut costs but in the cold light of day letting 100s of pissed up mackems loose with power tools would have caused a health and safety headache and they are getting skilled tradesmen in to do it instead.
