He can track far back and do defensive work when needed because he has the pace and the stamina to get back to transition quickly between phases. Obviously an "average position" would not reflect this. Comparing his defensive contribution to Ronaldo solely based on this is completely ridiculous. Both teams looked pretty scrappy today. Probably deserved a point on the balance but Bale was a matchwinner and we haven't got anyone of that quality in our squad. That was the big difference. A loss at WHL prefaced an amazing run of wins last season so hopefully we'll be in for the same this year. Just hope Gouffran is okay.

The transfer policy seems nice and all but we've had too much of signing "reds" who actually turn out to be blue. I'm all for focusing on youth in the summer but they will at least have to be capable of filling in when necessary as opposed to just being reserve fodder.
