  1. Okay, pretty bad analogy given that it would be hard for us to be any less pleased about that deal than we already are
  2. I sympathize. We'd be pretty pissed if Carroll went off and signed for Atletico Madrid or something.
  3. Watching the SPL and Scottish football has made me realize that being born a football fan in South Korea might not be the worst thing in the world after all.
  4. Dog meat is so good, I consider not eating it to be barbaric. It's really sound the way they torture the dog to death like. Right, because you westerners treat your cattle so humanely. I've no problems at all with people eating dogs. Seems a bit unnecessary to go absolutely our of your way to make the animal suffer as painful a death as is possible though. Cattle farmers in Ireland don't tend to that, to the best of my knowledge. I'm just saying that it's rather hypocritical for foreigners to frown on our alleged treatment of livestock canines given the practices that the meat industry is known to engage in globally. But if you're saying that your problem is unethical treatments of animals in general rather than dogs in specific, I don't disagree. It's been made difficult for us to regulate these alleged practices though, because our government kow-towed to pressure from foreign activist groups two decades ago and outlawed something that has been a natural part of our culture for hundreds of years. It's all black market now and therefore impossible to police. Whole things a disgrace really.

  7. Dave's first birthday Present to his children would be a long, serious discussion of their funeral options.
  8. I'd honestly love to know how I could get to work there, as working in football administration would be one of my dream jobs. I suppose they just come offer you a job if you're old, overweight, and corrupt?
  9. Momentarily abandoning all common sense/grasp on reality, I'd certainly love for us to have Berbatov. He's one of my favorite players and his style of play is absolutely beautiful to look at sometimes. Some of his first touches just make me want to
  10. Based on? I'm afraid someone's already beat you to being a cunt, Ronaldo. Based on what exactly?

    Gervinho

To be fair, they clearly have a far better squad than us in the status quo. It's just that given their situation they're not likely to get any better in the short term (although at the same time, they're probably not liable to get any worse.) We're more of a crapshot.
  12. Blatantly just made-up quota-filling shit. The club wouldn't want him. He wouldn't want us.

    Sebastian Larsson

If he's better in that position than everyone save Barton, that means he's basically better than Ryan Taylor , Guthrie on the right, or Kazenga Lua Lua. That doesn't sound impressive to me at all.
  14. Press over here claim that Monaco are willing to let him go for what they paid. Think he's only got a year left on his contract too. I think he'd fit in great as the lone striker in a 4-2-3-1 as it's the position he plays for south Korea, with the caveat that the majority of our goals would need to be coming from Ben arfa or gervinho or whoever ends up playing right behind him. National service complications probably make this a non-starter though. I can't see our board being willing to bring in a player with any sort of significant uncertainty in his future.
  15. His goal rate isn't great, but decent player, maybe if we miss out on Gervinho rather than Gamerio. Bah, it's not going to happen. God doesn't love me that much.
  16. If only there was another decent striker from a French side willing to sell, maybe a relegated one... who we could pick up for cheap, probably around 3m... http://cfs15.tistory.com/image/30/tistory/2008/11/03/01/58/490ddc354da98
  17. Plenty of decent strikers out there, no need to get too fixated on this one.
  18. For me the Championship Playoff Finals is the most exciting match of the year for a neutral. Beats the CL finals by a mile.
  19. It still feels weird that I've missed Zurab Kizeroiqwahpqoweir's entire Newcastle career
  20. I'd assume this was just ITK bollocks but it interests me that you mention that Carr was flying out to the Far East, given that there was rumors about Carr coming over here to look at a Korean player last month and I just dismissed them as... well.. ITK bollocks. Not claiming ITK at all, it was a while ago, was South Korea I believe, the Barton shenanigans brought it (the big changes bit) back to mind, that's all. Well, if we put two and two together it does seem like Carr was indeed in Korea to watch the player in question, without informing the player's agent or his club, even. Probably not a whole lot in it since obviously we don't make a bid for everyone we scout, but interesting that he's coming all the way out here nevertheless. I fairness, you don't have to inform a club (or player/agent) if you're purely scouting. My cousins hubby is a freelance scout, most recently for WBA, he's based in NZ but spends a lot of time over here, the States and Europe. He gets a list of player type/positions of interest to the club that's looking, sometimes it's a brief to look at a certain player, but not always. Sometimes it's because a fellow scout asks him to do a report on a specific player and cover some ground for him. It's a very you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours business. The head scouts, attached to clubs, may then take a personal look at a player if consistent reports are good. They get players watched multiple times by "thier mates". Otherwise the "cousin-in-law" just takes in whatever games he can to see what takes his eye and will pass on leads/reports to his fellows in return for the same back, when he wants it. How they get paid if a lead is taken up I haven't a clue. The media over here had the club officially rubbishing the rumors by saying "Newcastle didn't inform us that a scout was coming, therefore he couldn't have been here." I guess it's sort of a gentlemen's agreement thing?

  22. I get this weird feeling that we're going to have this fantastic window, sign Gamerio, Gervinho, and Cabaye and a couple other good players, re-sign Jose, basically do everything right, and then fuck everything up on August 30th by selling Tiote to Chelsea for 25 million.

  24. He knows he's leaving so he doesn't have to deal with Pardew's "no Twitter" rule anymore
