    Yoane Wissa

I suppose this settles the “is Wissa less of a dick than Isak” debate.
  2. Absolutely not. But more importantly, how do you even know that this person exists in the first place.
  3. If fans on an internet message board are this frustrated the folks whose actual job is to put a team on the pitch are probably crying themselves to sleep every night.
  4. He’d also be second choice up front at Villa. He would have zero competition here. Literally. Could start 50 games
  5. I just want to wake up in the morning and see that we've signed a striker. Any striker will do. *monkey's paw curls...*
  6. He genuinely seems like the only remaining striker that's actually for sale and at this point, I'll take it.
  7. Us getting Watkins so they can get Jackson would make little sense. There wouldn't be a big price difference between the two anyway. Given that they are a direct rival and PSR is the greatest threat to both teams, we shouldn't be subsidizing them so they can get younger.
  8. Kaiz standing up for his countryman while I gleefully shit on every Korean player ever associated with us making me look bad.
  9. Our situation right now is like where you run a search with a bunch of filters on Football Manager trying to find the exact right transfer target and end up with zero results.
  10. They're both better than Gordon at CF.
  11. I'm sorry folks, but we're at the point where it was probably a mistake to let Wilson go/not sign DCL on a free. I don't like it either, but Vardy seems like a perfectly reasonable option.
  12. The thing is we probably need to take Vardy for a year and panic sign Larsen for 60m
  13. We might as well go for Vardy anyway given that even if we sign Wissa/JSL we'll only have one striker in the squad for at least a few weeks and we need someone to come off the bench as emergency cover.
  14. He'd probably be a shit as an Isak replacement, but if the "Wilson replacements" are costing 50-60m anyway we might as well get this guy for the same price. But yeah, if folks at the club rated him I think he'd be a Newcastle player already.
  15. "Formal talks" is all nonsense anyway. If Andy Howe (or whoever) knows a guy at Wolves and his texting him some numbers is that formal? informal? It's not like there's an official "formal talking room" both sides need to enter into consummate a transfer. It's a term that means nothing and tells us nothing other than that the transfer probably isn't imminent.
  16. I suppose we need to bite the bullet and accept that we're going to be signing one decent striker for way too much money just so we can line up a functional XI every week. Whether it be JSL for 60m, Wissa for 50m, or whatever. The more exciting "Isak replacement" would have to come in a later window, and he may not even cost that much more than the eventual backup striker we acquire this window, but that's just the realities of the market for you.
  17. Seems a little weird that they'd be going after Jackson for big money given how much of their attack is centered around Watkins. They mostly don't play two strikers and in any case I'd think Jackson is a poor fit for both a two-striker system and for playing on the wing. Doesn't seem like Jackson would be an every-weekend starter there, which is the whole point of him moving on for Chelsea. If we were interested (it doesn't seem like we're actually interested) he'd probably choose us.
  18. The fact that we're completely fucked in the striker market makes me even more angry at him Good job letting your teammates down when they're utterly desperate for anyone who can play your position.
  19. Getting two confirmed sources is probably a lot easier for someone on the national beat like Orenstein. Local journos will have good connections at the club, but may struggle to get a second source on much of what they hear.
  20. I don’t think being a newsbreaker is really his primary job. Also, he alluded on his pod that he’s very limited in what rumors he can publish because The Athletic has to comply with the NYT’s extremely strict editorial rules.
  21. Looking like more and more of an attractive option every day It seems that our desperation to sign a striker and Chelsea’s desperation to sell this guy would converge on a reasonable price at some point before the window closes.
  22. If he was actually available for that money I assume we would have done it already.
  23. If we’re going to be extorted into paying 50m for Wissa I’d much rather pay 60m for a younger player of (arguably) similar quality. Both are ridiculous prices of course but that’s just a function of where we are this window.

I'm just tired now. I can't even think of a striker I want us to sign. Something of some sort will happen before the deadline I guess.
