not so sure just yet, if shearer stays he might convince him to stay for a season - it's not like he's a world beater at the minute and he's not likely to be on massive wages

Ridiculous..not as good as Woodgate,Howey,Albert or even Dabizas.Potentially good but not in their class at the moment. howey? jesus we are at a low ebb Quality centre half, and a justified England international too. he was as error prone as most of our other defenders and was getting games for england when there was a dirth of good CB's for the national team he was OK but bassong is likely to become twice the player howey was As i said Bassong has real potential.Cut out the naive errors and he'll go far, which i'm sure he will. unlikely to be with us though

could be the best option tbh

right, but again if ashley is gonna bail he'll more than likely not bother tying it up
-
This summer is going to be bonkers anyway what with possible talk of Kinnear coming back, player departures etc well yeah, i've assumed that that isn't gonna happen but with ashley it could i suppose - what would concern me is if he's fucking about trying to flog the club then we end up with 2nd or 3rd choice players and really struggle again if a sale isn't realistic then at least they should be pulling in the same direction
-
It makes you wet and you know it. busted
-
i've got a bad feeling in the event of going down, there'll be plenty of people sniffing about the club hoping to get it on the cheap from ashley which would lead to another summer of uncertainty with no continuity hopefully ashley won't want rid on the cheap
-
No, you're an Ashley fan because you've persisted in supporting Ashley through all of this mess. That's what fans do. By definition. As a tautology, it may be claimed to be "worthless logic", but nonetheless it's true. you're taking the NE5 road here. to criticise shepherd/keegan = a love for ashley. so again, if you wish to look back you'll see i've often been critical very supportive of ashley. i doubt you will because it may mean i score a point see, there you go again man, can't help yourself supporting ashley

this again huh?

golden wonder if villas medical team have had any input? oh no, keep forgetting he's such a genuine bloke no-ones ever met

[quote author=themanupstairs link=topic=61940.msg1806158#msg1806158 date=124239837 The thing is, unlike many others (some on our own books), he's not carrying on, fleecing Villa (or any other clubs) of money, while fully aware of his knee problems. He's realised he can't pursue a pro career from hereon, and has packed it in. The "honorable" thing to do. this is a good point if he's retired ahead in the middle of a contract and it costs nobody anything i'd love to hear what brummies gotta say on the deal - i'll be amazed if he's not close to the end of his contract, but i do agree he might just be a gentleman

It's not always about money. actually, i think you'll find it is for people who don't have any dude I could understand if it was a prick like Ronaldo. It's Martin Laursen though, a top professional both on and off the pitch. you might be mistaking apathy for dislike here...? I think it comes down to the same thing. I feel sorry for Laursen because he's a genuine bloke who I'd say values playing football ahead of money. on what do you base that? not that it matters, the point stands - i'm still far too devastated that i never made professional football 'cause i was shit and overweight to have sympathy for this fucker Just my opinion, it's the way he comes across. Not all footballers are cunts. of course they're not, but a millionaire like laursen, assuming he's not a cunt, will look back on a nice career and a comfortable retirement i understand it's just platitudes from people, they're just unnecessary

dude this post is baffling, are you saying owen should start for the benefit of owen?

Better than the mentality than a lot of you fans who sit up in the Leazes Corner have like. As a lot of you appear to think yourselves are superior to supporters who sit in other areas of the ground. Really? Do we? I've never heard anything of the sort. Just heard the odd grumble of the rest of the round not singing...and us being pissed off at trying our best to rouse an atmosphere. I'd hardly call anyone sitting where we are 'up themselves' or having a an opinion that we are better than everyone...but then again I can't comment for everyone else. Anyhow, the idea of competition between the stands is a good one, it might get people up and singing. I just hope everyone gets behind the team like we did on Monday and the usual moaning and groaning from everyone doesnt creep in again. had ST's in both, and both think the other one sings less than them when i was knocking about the gallowgate it was a better atmos tbh but that was before the reconstruction so hard to comment for me now

while i agree owen wasn't that bad where do we lose by starting mcloven with a view to subbing him for owen if we're not winning, as opposed to the reverse of this scenario given mcloven will probably be confident and owen obviously isn't

i might consider the reverse of mcloven and owen to be honest, put the pressure on mcloven to respond and if he fails owen might be more relaxed as a sub or care less 'cause he's sub
-
this, it's a shame when players bodies give up at 21 and they've no education due to dedicating everything to football - can't get upset about someone like laursen
-
yes he's in there to quote George Caulkin as... It is hardly his fault, but there may never have been a bigger, worse signing in the club's history. That's a ludicrous thing for him to say about Xisco... nobody knows if it really was his signing that made Keegan walk, and even if it was that reflects more badly on Keegan than it does on Xisco himself. And in footballing terms it's far too soon to say he's one of our worse signings... he was considered one of the most promising strikers in Europe, he could easily still come good. hyperbole?

agree, people critical of owens all round game and contribution want to watch mcloven, he doesn't exist he is, however, getting on the end of stuff now and owen isn't - maybe mcloven stole his mojo? wasnt it mcloven who made the pass to nolan (who then passed back) for the 3-0 goal? no idea, generally speaking he's rarely involed in play...not slating the guy by any means just saying he's doesn't mix it up much - noticed this especially on the wing rather than up front
