Unless we're taken over by someone richer who can pump a lot of his own money in (as with Man City and Chelsea), I can't see a better alternative. The idea of a 'local consortium' headed by Shepherd fills me with horror. Apart from anything else, we really need some continuity. The bloke has made mistakes, but I don't distrust his motives. haven't a lot of time for ashley but i have to agree with this best thing that could happen to us is to stay up, shearer stays permanently and ashley invests 20m a season of the TV $$ into transfers for the next 5 years, see where we are after that i too am filled with horror at a local consortium, frying pan & fire tbh

did he spend big in his first spell with pompey? or with southampton or west ham? i don't think so but i wouldn't swear to it think it was his first spell at pompey that sticks in my mind, he seemed to use the loan system to great effect but then i might have just imagined it
-
that was my first thought actually, but it's inaccurate 'cause if we down it'll almost certainly NOT be in a blaze of glory
-
thread led me to read about him on wiki where i was reminded of "In 2004 he stated that he wished to be referred to as G8, combining his initial and his playing number." fucking hell
-
'cause most other countries concentrate on developing their own youngsters rather than poach them from abroad a contributing factor to why our national team is so shit

personally think this is bollocks, not what you're saying dave but the idea that ashley somehow touted the club around loads of eligible managers and they all turned us down "because the club was in a mess" more likely he tried a couple of people on the cheap and they laughed at him. he threw the same bullshit offer at kinnear and he took it the man reeked of desperation every minute he was at the club, he reminded me of Les McQueen from the League of Gentlemen http://lockheart.co.uk/bb/mcqueen.jpg

i'd take redknapps team of high earners over our team of mega-rich fucknuts any day of the week at least he has the nouse to identify the role of physicality, pace and strength in today's game i never mentioned his ability to manage a wage bill either, what i said initially was "redknapp style it'll have to be, a few strategic purchases and sales plus some good loans" redknapp makes good use of the loan system, or did at pompey when he needed to, and made some very good strategic buys imo (campbell, distin, diarra, muntari, diop, defoe to name a few) not sure what your problem is tbh

Darren Fletcher - Should he be able to play in the final?
mrmojorisin75 replied to Liam Liam Liam O's topic in Football
was gonna write this myself actually, will be laughable if they succeed and i'd hope barca get on the same case with abidal 'cause his sending off was bullshit too -
Are you not a bit pissed off? Player asks to be released on compassionate grounds then goes to sign for another club after claiming he will more than likely retire. I'm surprised he's gone to Flamengo, he should have joined Corinthians that would have been a laugh. inter should sue the fucking shit out of him for the money they paid parma, too late now in reality but why wouldn't they stipulate a time period clause when agreeing to release him? bizarre

That last line is spot on Dave. Something people will have to come to terms with. If we do stay up, don't expect a clear out to the degree people hope for, it's just not going to be that easy. redknapp style it'll have to be, a few strategic purchases and sales plus some good loans Redknapp style? The man who just spent £46m on a decent inherited squad having arrived from bankrupting Pompey? that's him yeah, the guy who assembled a quality team at pompey that tore us to fucking shreds at home and destroyed cacapa's career in the process and won the fa cup him You think Ashley's going to provide any manager we have with enough funds to bankrupt us? Why do you think Portsmouth is for sale for about £20m now? Taking the Redknapp approach of throwing loads of cash around would be brilliant, I won't dispute that. He's not done any of his famed 'wheeler dealer' activity for about 5 years now. no? what did he buy diarra & muntari for? and what were they both sold for? bouba diop was a reasonable deal and campbell & distin were decent signings what i was getting at was redknapp takes chances on players who have reps but are unproven...what the fuck else are we gonna do? sign more duffs, smiths and nolans? no thanks
-
Can't drive? Banned from driving? Green activist? Be brilliant if he was just incredibly stingy. Could be. Andy O'Brien used to drive an old Sabb while his team mates turned up in Ferrari's, Porche's, etc. maybe he's the only footballer on the planet who doesn't give a fuck about looking like a primadonna in some wank car? just made myself laugh I wonder if O'Brien has a black T-shirt with the SABB badge on it in gold sequins like Martins' Lamborghini T-Shirt. Just for the record though, Ferrari's, Aston Martin's, Lamborghini's, Porche's, etc. aren't "wank" cars. just cars for wankers, yeah best be accurate (i'm not a car person at all if you can't tell, metal and plastic - can't get excited myself) EDIT: just to clarify my overall point here is that footballers are such total and utter pricks with more money than sense, i doubt any of them would know a "good" flash car from a "bad" flash car, they more than likely just buy whatever the salesman tells them & that looks shiny

You'd think so. But we'll need to win the Boro and Fulham games to have any real chance of finishing above Sunderland, not going to happen sadly Where are you expecting Sunderland to get points from? this

like they can in the prem (as in beye verses citeh). i don't want video reffing brought in for during-game scenarios but i can't understand why the prem allows this but uefa doesn't. buh? an exchange between you two that didn't involve old board new board or debt -
Pwnage: Barcelona bum Man Utd 2-0, win the CL

The tactics for a one-off final are totally different to those adopted for a 2 leg tie. I have no doubt in my mind that Man Utd will use their steam rolling attacking force as the best method of defence. What Ferguson will do is try to keep Barcelona busy defending, and expose their own defensive problems rather than worry about how they will attack. IMO Carrick, Scholes and Andreson will be key to whether they lift the trophy or not. agree carrick, scholes & anderson vs xavi, toure and iniesta losing both full backs might well hurt Barca mind Aye. Full back is the most important position tactically for a side as attacking as Barcelona. It will indeed hurt them. The players who will fill are certainly no mugs, but they possibly do not have the full season's momentum that Alves and Abidal have had. It will all depend on how quickly the scum's midfield can repossess the ball, especially Carrick, who if on form, has the fantastic ability to distribute play on par even with Xavi and Alonso. abidal was wank against real by the way, beaten time and again by ramos & robben so he might not be the greatest loss said elsewhere though that evra was a travesty up against lennon recently so messi will fancy his chances if he see's enough of the ball

absolutely, and fair play to chelsea for being the first team to stop them scoring at home this season as i said before i prefer the way the italians and spanish go about defending when that's their gameplan but yeah, fair play to chelsea for that still missing how Barca's defence is so bad and chelsea didn't punish it though Seriously explained this like 5+ times now! Read them. oh no, i read 'em, it paraphrases to "they didn't try because they didn't have to" bollocks, and it doesn't explain the first leg or were they not trying then either at 0-0? Why is that bollocks? if your manager of Chelsea you know the opposition going to throw everything forward, you would like to see open game? Instead of hitting them on the break when they are over exposed ala Man Utd on Tuesday? Why exactly is it bollocks. i agree with what you're saying about the tactical aspect, i.e. don't play on an open game - counter attack definately the way what i'm saying is if barca's defence is/was so bad as you've suggested why didn't a counter attacking game expose this in the way arsenals defence was exposed by man u? (not that man u played counter attack but you see what i mean) i mean in your first line you're basically saying tactically hiddink tacitly accepted barca would beat them in an open game so even in the home leg he set up to stifle them and counter, yet you're calling barca's attack toothless!! i see this as a massive contradiction in terms and it's why we've been slavering on for hours now I said hiddink paid to much respect to them at the nou camp. Today Barca's attack were completely toothless, i mean chasing the game for 80 minutes your one shot on target is the very last. 70% possession and one shot on target. With Eto'o, Messi, Iniesta all these players they are supposed to steamroll through teams and they come up against a good defense and they are completely out of ideas. Especially in the dire situation they were in. going round in circles now mate, 70% possession and one shot tells me chelsea put up a wall and did it very well you seem to see it that Barca weren't good enough in attack we'll never reach an agreement on that, fundamental difference in how we look at things -
