Sebastien Bassong signs for Tottenham Hotspur, fee undisclosed
Segun Oluwaniyi replied to Crumpy Gunt's topic in Football
You mean thanks for being one of our best players last season? There's a space between Au and revoir btw -
Really, this just accelerates the situation. It will be decided sooner now. Big fan of Habib. He's been playing at my two favorite clubs for the last six years so I used to supporting him every season, and will definitely miss him when he goes.

i'll believe it when i see it. west brom agree a fee for mattock..........this summer can hardly get any worse. I find it funny that West Brom signing random kids from League 1 is what is making this summer bad for you.

Lovenkrands should be given a call. Looked like he enjoyed his time here and can't see him turning his nose up. Christian Bekamenga (powerful striker) of relegated Nantes might be worth an attempt as well. Chibuzor Okonkwo of Bayelsa United was a revelation at the 2008 Olympics and is set to move to Europe. Good player who can play both left or right back. Would probaly be gotten on the extreme cheap as well. Hopefully cheap moves like these would be accompanied by us spending money on established players in this division.

8 million is hardly, "on the cheap". It is a very correct fee for the player in an objectivee sense. Obviously I would have preferred us to rape some poor team for 15 million, but that was always very unlikely given our state. -
SSN: £10m offer from Spurs for Sebastien Bassong rejected
Segun Oluwaniyi replied to Crumpy Gunt's topic in Football
If we didn't sign Bassong he'd be at Lille right now, probaly in a similar situation to the one he is in right now. They were openly interested. -
That was the summer after the scandal, where Inter were able to acquire Ibrahimovic and other world class players which meant Martins had almost no chance of playing. No problem being third striker, he was in the same role for a while here as well.

It's unfair to say Shola is a better option. Do you realise Xisco started/played in three games when we didn't have a manager at all, and the crowd was venomous, and has played a total of about 30 minutes since? Seriosuly, do you realise this? How can you make any conclusion based off of these statistics. Your logic is flawed! Have you ever been to a Newcastle United match? No not yet. As a university student I don't really have time or money to drop all my things to see a football match. I've never really been able to pop on the train and be back from the match by five, sorry. Don't see how this is relevant to my point either.

Why? They're about the most boring team in the league. Season after season all they ever do is float about but never actually do anything of note. Like 16 of the 20 teams in the top flight, you mean? His point is stupid, but I would like to point out that that Villa's transfer policy is actually pretty awful insofar as how much they spend and what they receive in return. Villa's success is down to being well-coached and stable is a league of teams that are not.

SSN: £10m offer from Spurs for Sebastien Bassong rejected

Coloccini is still here. I thought he and Jonas would be the first out of the door (especially in a WC year), but they are both still here for some reason. (There will definitely be interest, especially in Jonas.) -
Some relegation tinted glasses here imo. I think Oba was a very decent player for us. Scored a good amount af goals and contributed a fair amount to the team. Think he'll do fine at Wolfsburg where he'll be in a position that suits instead of being thrown into the number 9 and asked to be the big man like he was here. I personally think we have some very good players at this club, and the whole, "we were relegated so everyone is awful now" attitude is wrong. I think Jonas, Owen, Oba, Bassong, and Beye will all be signed by better clubs this summer and will perform next year. I call it Newcastle syndrome and it is not exclusive to this season. It's been around for the last decade or so.

SSN: £10m offer from Spurs for Sebastien Bassong rejected

That whole "Let the c*** rot in the reserves angle is justa ridiculous view for someone to take. Espeically at a club in our situation, -
Who did you vote for? As administrator, don't you have some overpowering ability to see who voted for who?
-
I'd like to see the players I like go to good clubs and carve out nice careers for themselves. I'd also not like for people who have wasted our time for four years to be snapped by the Premiership titlists. Otherwise I couldn't care.

SSN: £10m offer from Spurs for Sebastien Bassong rejected

£15m. Come off it. It's insanity. He's not even worth ten. 22 year old who's been relegated three times. While perofrmed really well, there were still very obvious flaws in his game. He made alot of mistakes on is own as well. How many central defenders have gone for 20 million pounds in the history of football? Can't be many. -

No I remember all the Spurs fans dancing in joy because they almost broke even in regards to Younes. The internet tells me KPB is still training at Spurs. -
Will Alan smith and his like be able to help us play successful football next season or just talk a good game? Think Smith will important next season, and obviously he's not as talented as Beye but it is ridiculous that you think he cannot criticise him for this reason. They are both professional. However, only has been acting like a professional in recent weeks. The other deserves criticism.

I sKevin Prince Boateng still available? He'd be fantastic. Or Giovani dos Santos, who somehow can't make the Spurs team. -
He's tried a whole hell of a lot harder than Mr. Habib Beye recently.

I really don't want Taylor at Captain with the way he performs (in an theatrical sense) at times. He needs to become a coller head first.

Well as quite a few have pointed out, Shearer didn't really like Martins, but he liked Bassong and Beye. Think it was that Martins "had to go" Same with Coloccini, who will be off to probaly. We can feasibly keep Bassong and Beye. -

At least Lescott accomplished something other than being relegated three times. Bassong is not English, and has only put one full good season together. Not worth more than 10 million. -
SSN: £10m offer from Spurs for Sebastien Bassong rejected

Would have snapped their hands off for 10 million pounds sterling. If that was the real offer which I'm almost positive it wasn't. 20 million pounds for Oba and Bassong would be fair enough business for us though. Especially as Bassong has already started to make the noises about leaving. It is August now, and I wouldn't ne surprised if some players give up the charade and start demanding transfers.
